When doing trail running and mountain biking the app on your iphone becomes essentially useless without satellite maps

Starting last week, version 9.0.0 of the iOS app supports satellite and hybrid map views when viewing an activity. We're still working on supporting these map views for segments too, stay tuned by following this related discussion.

  • I recently bought a mountain bike having been very much a road cyclist for many years. I would love to be able to use a satellite view to follow offroad paths especially to help identify where paths are that other cyclist I follow have taken.

  • That, and add the heat map feature as another overlay option. Combining satellite and heat maps makes it so much easier to navigate through hard to find trails. I find myself taking a pic of the heat map pre-trip, and constantly referring back to it to try to determine where I am. Uber frustrating. Much nicer to get all fancy and actually have the heat map working with live data.

  • Old ish comment thread, but since I just moved to iOS I am just learning this. I would like to add that satellite maps on the iOS side would be great. The way it is now is not very useful when out riding or when reviewing the route and segments when a computer is not accessible.

  • Doesn't make sense that android would have satellite view but iOS doesn't. I agree, it's basically pointless mapping it for us off roaders!
