Choose between speed (km/h) or pace (min/km) on an activity

There are lots of walkers/runners who don't want to see min/km because km/h is all we know from our daily lives! I don't want to have to record my exercise as a cycle ride, especially when the stats will appear ridiculously low for a ride.

Would it be possible to set the speed/pace display as a toggle in the settings screen, and de-couple it from the sport? This is especially useful on app displays.

    Hey Folks,

I appreciate the enthusiasm and time you all have taken to express your opinions. There's currently no ETA on adding a feature like this. Please feel free to continue to upvote and add your thoughts.

As I've told several athletes, just because something's popular doesn't mean it'll be implemented. Our forums are just one component of our decision-making process. While a ton of ideas are genuinely valuable, we need to be selective and balance our priorities.

    Thanks for understanding!

  • Option to toggle speed or pace. This feature has been requested many times before!

  • This is my current "most wanted" feature. As a cyclist, min/km means nothing to me, even when I run or ski.

  • Strava clearly do not listen to their customers, such an obviously necessary fix.

  • I am new in Strava and I find this missing feature a must. Does anyone know if it has it been fixed? Or should I better start practising on doing the math?

  • why is this still not implemented?

i walked away from mapmyrun for the same reason

how can anyone be so stubborn for not implementing a simple request?

it is for the users to decide what they want to see

    not strava

  • For what it's worth, this got my +1 as well. I definitely want to see my speed in km/h.

min/km doesn't mean anything to me, and I have to calculate my speed manually every time !

This could be a global setting, but some apps (Polar Flow IIRC) also offer to toggle between speed and pace by just tapping on the value.

  • This is basic functionality. Runtastic has it and many other have it. Minutes per kilometer means nothing to most people. If you don't listen then I have to think about the usefulness of Strava and my account.

  • I could not support this request more. It is an unfortunately missing but basic feature.

  • Strava. I can't believe there is NO response at all for this feature. It's simple and it would keep you a lot of satisfied app users...

Please. Just some form of response would be highly appreciated. Thank you

  • Dear Strava team,

Like the guys above, i would v much like to have a new column added, the speed in km/h - or ability to toggle between pace (as of now) and this speed.

Can you please come back to us? - having worked in IT dev i can tell you there is nothing to such development. Your IT can do it.

    Thanks

    Antoine

  • To all Strava members and staff,

Form an Excel user perspective, this is the formulae to convert a cell in pace (ie min per km) into speed (ie km / h).

Format of the pace for, say, 4 min 25sec per km: "4.25". For 4 min 59 sec per km: "4.59" - so do not put comma higher than 59. Let' stake the example of 4 min 25 sec per km into km / h

Cell A1: put the number "4.25"

Cell B1: put the following formulae:

    =60/(TRUNC(A1)+(A1-TRUNC(A1))/60*100)

    Result: 13.58km/h

Principle: "Trunc" fonction keeps only the minutes (4 here). So A1-Trunc renders the seconds (25 here).

  • I simply can not believe there is no option for selecting speed (km/h, or miles/h for those who still cling to these archaic units :-) instead of pace (min/km). Come on Strava it's not that hard - it's not even high school maths.

BTW it could be worse. They could have chosen to use fur/ftn (furlong/fortnight) instead.

  • WHY ARE PEOPLE SO STUBBORN?

IF YOUR USERS ASK FOR KM/H WHY SHOULD YOU NOT PROVIDE THE POSSIBILITY ?

IT HAS TAKEN WAY TO MUCH TIME

THERE WAS NO REACTION WHAT SO EVER FROM STRAVA

  • Dear All,

Given that Strava has not listened to our feature request, nor than I can set the audio cues to something different than every 1km (instead of every X km or every Y minutes), I am considering using another application (and get a HRM that I can pair with it). Do any of you have any suggestions?

    Cheers!!

    Mariana.

  • Strava this is ridiculous.  A simple and reasonable request from customers, completely ignored as I have seen with many other features requested by customers with cycling. I cant believe I have only min/km as my only display option. This is exactly the reason why I ended my premium subscription last year and why I am encouraging others to do the same - dont pay for a service that doesn't deliver.

If you are wanting to give your competitors more of your customers and more room to expand, then keep it up

  • I guess it will count for nothing, since if Strava aren't listening to you lot then they're not going to suddenly change their minds just because I've piped up, but for the record I agree with you all.  Pace is, for many of us, such a meaningless way of representing speed.  How many people really ask themselves "Oh, at this speed I wonder how long it'll take me to run a kilometre?"  Some, perhaps, but I think most of us simply want to know at WHAT SPEED we're running.

If this feature existed I'd serious consider going for premium membership, but without it I'm not going to bother.

  • I'm a runner. As far as support for the above folks with having the option to display kmh instead of minutes per kilometre I am fully onboard but I do have to say this. Most runners will always opt for pace rather than kmh as it's something that has been used for as long as it's been possible to measure. If you're very desperate to display speed instead of pace than maybe you should look at changing your run activity to a walk as for some reason walking activities display kmh not min/km. This is the reason I am posting as I (when injured) often walk and am ever so frustrated at seeing kmh when I'm so used to min per km, I guess as previously stated I could always change my walks to runs but then it just looks like a really really slow run. Also on a side not strava why is there no option to add equipment for walks like shoes? Do you think shoes don't wear out from kms done walking? I've had to resort to using Garmin to track my k's as they allow shoes on any sport I so desire to use them for. Thanks for listening

  • i suppose that strava sees PACE as old school

and that serious runners think in PACE

strava should realize that people think in SPEED

as they would be driving cars and biking

because that's what people from this generation is acquainted with

the fact that strava does not honor this simple feature request

    could mean

    • that they don't feel the changed mindset of their users
    • or that they didn't bother to read their own forum for more than two years...

  • No more Strava, moving to the app where I can set the metrics to display. For example - distance vs speed is most useful for me, and speed-gradient colored map the best feature I miss in Strava(

  • Strava, Any progress on this...  Perhaps have a long-press action to change it to different units, even if it reverts back to the default for the activity when you exit the activity screen.

  • Has anyone tried emailing the strava team? I'm considering becoming a paying customer, but this is essential for me. I think this was worth at least a response from their side :/

  • I just got a TomTom watch and connected the TomTom web application to strava to sync automatically. In TomTom app I could easily change from pace to speed. Guess what app I will be using for my analysis?

  • I am also bewildered by 2 things:

    • 1. Why no support for su essential & simple feature as pace/speed switch
    • 2. Why no single response from Strava staff on such popular thread

Considering these 2 points, I feel quite disenchanted, and not inspired to switch to a payed plan.

  • I once more want to support all the above comments/requests/remarks/etc. on the subject because long ago this was one of my first observations and consequently proposals to make STRAVA more convenient to runners.

Let's not give up and let's hope that some STRAVA aficionado will find the time to add these 10 lines of code to make the community content.

  • I use Polar to record my runs, it feeds my Strava account. At least when I run I know my speed then Strava converts the data into pacing, completely useless to me. Conclusion, why am I using this app? ;)

  • I really wanted this feature too, that's why I created a userscript that adds speed next to the pace, both on the dashboard and on the activity view:

    -

The script can be downloaded here: https://openuserjs.org/scripts/de.bie.pieter/Strava_pace_to_speed

If you don't know how to install userscripts, a walkthrough for Chrome can be found here: https://openuserjs.org/about/Tampermonkey-for-Chrome  and for firefox here https://openuserjs.org/about/Greasemonkey-for-Firefox

At the moment this will only work for kilometers and on english pages though.
