Hide Commutes from the Activity Feed but still count towards my stats

I would like this feature because nobody is interested in my twice daily commute, except me. I would still like it to count towards my total mileage and if I happen to do well on a segment then that should register too. Currently, if I mark a ride as private then segments don't count which seems unfair.

Alternatively maybe somewhere in the Strava settings there could be a "Hide other people's commutes" option?

  • A three year old feed Strava has completely ignored. It's really been asked for since 2012 with no response.  Amazing.

  • Unbelievable. Just give the people (including me) what they want!

  • I would like to hide my four commuting rides per day for others also because the rides are not interesting for other but keep them in my stats en clubs for total distance

  • Strava, why is this wish ignored? I just need a checkbox in the settings that i can tick to hide commutes of others. Not more than a couple of hours work. On the website would be sufficient. You wouldn't have to build it in the app. But you can ofcourse..

I wish to make my bike commuting still count towards metro heatmaps so cities can use it for planning, but don't want to bore people with repetitive activities.

Could be solved by allowing me to specify to allow for metro but private to others, or allow people to hike things labeled commute from their feed (as mentioned earlier in here)

  • All,

I totally agree this should be a standard feature and have upvoted this.

However for those who dont know there is a great app out there called commute marker. In the strava app store and completely free. You give the start and end points of your commute and it automatically tags them for you. It also optionally marks them as private. Hope this helps someone!!

  • Maybe now that they are hiding the military bases there is hope for this.... seems like the same basic idea.

  • What happened to implementing this option?

  • Yeah, time to implement something like this, a couple of years since the discussion was begun now :)

  • Any news? Extremely annoying. Also, please implement do that I can hide virtual rides. 100% uninteresting.

  • Just wanted to add my two cents. I have stopped using GPS to log my bike commutes for privacy reasons. (I don't want anyone and everyone to be able to identify my house and work locations.) I believe I can set a radius to have trips near those locations not show up in my feed, but then, if I understand correctly, they don't count towards my stats (no cool to have to choose between privacy, tracking, or accuracy).

The "Hide other's commutes" would be a nice option and addresses the annoyance aspect.

A "Private" option that still counts one's activity or a way to hide gps/maps would help with privacy concerns.

  • As Strava don't seem to want to implement this feature I've requested that commutes are minimised in the activity feed ie not including a map so that my longer rides are more prominent in the activity feed.

  • +1 to this request. I have gotten complaints from my friends about my twice-a-day rides

  • Wow so many threads about this on google. Just add "hide from feed" checkbox to all rides. It is one column on a database table. This is trivial to implement and everyone wants it.

    Whats the story Strava?

  • I hate you Strava for ignoring this thread!! Make it happen! Easy to implement and needed option to hide other people's commutes...

  • My friends and I track each others totals on strava to motivate each of us to ride. Really annoying my total mileage for the year only displays 1/8 of what I actually did just because I don’t want to flood everyone’s feed with my same daily commutes.

  • agree. please fix this. just put an option to not show commute rides. that's all. with this all the stats can still count on leaderboards.

  • Do you mean this? http://commutemarker.com/

Not familiar with the Strava App Store, sorry.

  • Yep that’s the one. Strava call them apps on their desktop version. Find the app via strava.com think its in your profile section, you have to give them permission to edit routes within your account and away you go.
Been using it for a few months now with no problems.

  • Hi Andy - so i logged into strava on my desk top - went into apps and found  the commutemarker.com  - went into settings 'make my commute private on strava ' and checked the box.  Are you telling me it should now hide my commutes from people who are following me... (because thats pretty boring for them) but still count towards my total stats on Strava ?

If so isn't that what everyone is looking for ?   ie THE SOLUTION ?!

  • It is a solution that totally works! Make sure you set the start and end points for your commute mind.

It is a however a third party solution that people don’t know about. I think people would like it as an official feature but meanwhile it does work perfectly well if you know about it!
