Offer Offline Maps while recording with app

Offline maps please for phone and watch devices! A must for us who trail ride without cell signal where we are and need access to map info.

  • Offline maps are essential for MTB navigation in remote areas with no cell signal or LTE. Since Strava already use OSM, just allow the OSM tiles to be downloaded to the device for the region you select.

  • I agree entirely with the OP.  I've never really relied on the map feature in the deep woods, but I just tried to trust strava to navigate a mountainous road ride and was left stranded.   The map wouldn't download (though google maps did) so I had no way of seeing my loaded route and navigating off of it.  If I had downloaded the local map through google in advance, why couldn't Strava access the local information?

In summary, I would love to see strava sync up with previously downloaded offline google maps better.  My second challenge is that the strava route program is only functional with mobile data on - a red line should not need a satellite connection to show up on screen!

I would love to see strava sync up with previously downloaded offline google maps better.  I tried making a route and using strava exclusively to navigate it this weekend - only to have it leave me in the dust.  The GPS route was there, but I couldn't get the map to download at a fine enough resolution to show street names.    Would also recommend making the route you are running work without mobile data turned on - any area with poor reception makes the program useless.

  • Agreed!

If a 'download route map offline' feature existed in Strava I would go premium. I now have to subscribe for 'Ride with GPS' in order to navigate on my bike as there is very limited signal where i live. I need LIVE navigation because i don't have the ability to just absorb maps like some and i do get lost very easily!

Feature should work like Ride with GPS does. Plot the route on website, sync to phone and click 'download' (over WiFi) and it will download the route map tiles and the tiles surrounding them (in case i still get lost or distracted!), i can then turn my mobile data off and also 3G/4G off (saving a lot of battery power!).

Happy to volunteer for beta testing! :-)

  • That's a must have feature. When will we got a reply from Strava if these feature is on the road or not ?

Android Watches are more and more popular. Month after month the trail is more popular, with the problem that most of the trails are out of covered cell areas.

A offline function like Google Maps would be great, with openstreet maps will be even better.
