Default Activity Name Changed: Should be "8/24/2015 Aspen, CO" rather than "Morning Ride" - Who Agrees?

For some reason the activity name naming convention changed in the last few days when Garmin Connect pushes a new activity to Strava via the auto-API. The activity names now default to I.e. "Morning Run" or "Afternoon Ride" instead of Date and location like "8/24/2015 Aspen, CO".

Is there a reason Strava made this change? Does anyone else want the activity name changed back to date and location? I much prefer "8/24/2015 Aspen, CO" over "Morning Ride".

Thank you for considering the suggestion! Starva is amazing!! :)

  • Thanks for adding this Alexander.

For other readers: See also https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/95859818 for various reasons why people like the date/location format better, and a better indication of how many users are interested/concerned/complaining.

  • Please revert to what was in place before with date and location automatically entered.

  • I happen to like the change to "Morning ride", and I don't want the date and location, I ALWAYS renamed the activity to remove the date and location.  It was redundant.

If anything, allow the naming scheme to be a customizable setting.  Personally, I would like to be able to have the Activity auto named with values from the activity, such as Distance/AvgPower/AvgHeartRate/Calories

  • This only happens when uploading from a GPS device like a Garmin? I never saw that formatting as I have always used the phone app...I prefer it simple as I usually customize my ride title online after the fact when I'm looking at my ride on the laptop (the web view is much more informational)...

  • Because using Edit Activity is so hard for some...

  • I agree.  Change it back (Date at least).  I now have to add it manually.

  • Please change it back, the date being there automatically is helpful for keeping activities unique by default.

  • Please change it back to the date.  Morning ride, lunch ride mean nothing to me.  OR... at least give us the option to change it/default.

    Thanks!

  • Several weeks into this an a lot of us continue to ask for the change back. The one I find most perplexing is the Lunch Run... I do not eat lunch on my runs!  But I would love to know where I am and where my friends and fellow athletes that I follow are in the world and when they are training!

  • Please bring back the old way. Date and location are super inmportant to me. Lunch ride ?!?! WTF.

  • The new names are boring and useless.  Please return to date and location for default, or at the very least let users select which format they prefer.

  • Kudos on your Morning Ride.  WHAT Morning???  I ride a lot in the morning!  Change it back to the date/location.  This "morning", "lunch" ride thing just doesn't make sense.

  • I don't get it why this 'suggest a new feature' item hasn't got more like. Please like it so it will be on top of the list.

It is by far the most anoying and pointless change Strava has made.

  • Dear Strava. You are fantastic. Please listen to us and reverse out this frustrating change. Date and location as a default would be ideal (as before) or at least the option in your user preferences to select this. Thanks.

  • Please, please revert.  Make it an OPTION!!!  Give people a configuration option with special tags that will control the auto name of the ride title....  Come on, it really shouldn't be that hard....

    Please, thank you...

  • Date and location makes so much more sense and makes rides easier to find/categorize. It also tells me more when looking through activity feeds. The app should have been changed to match the desktop experience, not the other way around.

  • This is a no-brainer. "Lunch Run" does absolutely nothing to help me track my training history. Not a thing.

  • I  agree. Change it to something better.... preferably with the location.
