Set starting mileage on shoes

Hi. I'd like to be able to add starting mileage to shoes when I first enter them in Strava. I just started my account and tracking runs online. I have a bunch of shoes that already have miles on them that I tracked manually prior to setting up my account. I don't see a way to do this other than adding "dummy runs". It seems that would mess up my actual mileage entries. I also see this has been asked for on the forum before and seems to be a popular request.

Do you have plans to make this happen? Or at least allow us the ability to edit mileage on shoes. This is an important deal to runners. Thanks.

  • This is an essential feature for anyone transferring over to Strava.  Pretty Please :)

  • Are you telling me this isn't already a feature?  Seriously? I'm wanting to move from Dailymile, but this REALLY needs to be fixed if it's not possible to do.

  • I just wanted to propose the exact same thing. I just moved over from Garmin Connect - so this is an essential feature!

  • I agree with the other commenters on this thread, this shouldn't be a very hard feature to add and would really help.  I've been resistant to switch over completely to Strava for logging my running, and this is one of several reasons.

  • This feature is hardly needed!

  • Please add this feature soon. I have to make notes now as to how many miles my shoes already have when I start using them with Strava workouts, then remember to add the miles in my notes to the miles accumulated in Strava.

  • I would also like the ability to edit mileage on shoes.  I do not want to create fake runs in order to have accurate shoe mileage.  I would like to make Strava my primary app but without this feature will not do so.

  • Same here. Would appreciate this feature.

Or even if you could add a purchase date and it would trace back the mileage done based on imported activities.

  • Add  me to this list too. Garmin Connect lets you set the date you put the shoes in service and adds the mileage to them in case you forgot to (like I did). I bought them and went for a run to get them broken in. No problem on Garmin Connect. They report correctly. I just realized that Strava did not pull that info from Garmin and my last race showed old shoes.

  • I too would like to be able to do this, I tracked my shoes on Nike and am having to run both Apps, I transferred my runs from RunKeeper which didn't have my shoes but not sure if it would have added the mileage there as well

  • Seems easy from a backend perspective - simply another entry field. Pretty essential for the runners using this app.

  • I would also like this feature.

I bought my current shoes about a year ago; the same time that I started using Strava. I know 100% of the mileage that I've done on Strava was clocked using these shoes, so it would be great to be able to add a pair of shoes and specify the first workout that you used them on.

  • I've just moved over from Mapmyrun and have done at least 100 miles on my current pair, I would like to be able to set the mileage. Surely it cant be that hard to amend the site.

Edited: I have to admit until this feature is enabled the fake run idea works pretty well.  I ended up adding a manual run entry for the miles ran so far that I know of and dated it before my first ever activity log (2012 from my Mapmyrun import)  It's not ideal however it'll work until Strava get round to adding this feature.

  • I am very disappointed that this is not a feature having switched to Strava Premium. Incredible that this is not in place. Almost as incredible as the fact that there is absolutely no reply from Strava.

  • Adding my voice to this post.  I've only just started adding gear and as it is gear that I have already done lots of runs with I want to be able to set the initial mileage to something other than zero.  Please can this be done soon!

  • +1 this is kind of an oversight and honestly not a difficult feature to add.

  • Mileage on the existing 6-7 shoes in my rotation is the only thing keeping me on Nike Run Club.  Please add this feature so I can go all in with Strava and not use a second service just for shoe mileage!

  • The work around is to take your existing miles and add a fake work out in a past year.  That's what I did to get my shoes set correctly.  If you want Strava to reply or notice this, go to the top of the post and hit the up arrow on the top post to vote this up.

  • A year and a half since this post was first added and no response from Strava. Come on folks! I'm with Bryan. I'm now keeping other apps just so I can have my shoe mileage recorded.
