Virtual Challenges

Find a trainer/video/virtual training software company to sponsor "virtual" challenges. I'm sure they would be popular with a certain segment of the community. I suspect this is already "in the works," I hope.

  • I think a filter between indoor/virtual, outdoor, & combined leaderboards would be best.

  • I vote for one challenge to include indoor and outdoor. I only ride for myself but for people interested in the leaderboard there should be a option to filter.

That way I can still go outside on a nice day and finish my challenge.

  • This week I have done a Zwift Gran Fondo and it was just as hard if not harder than doing it outside!

Personally this winter I won't be looking at riding out doors to much as last year I had 3 bad off's just one one ride put me out of action for 4 weeks.

  • I really like the idea of virtual versus real challenges. A filter between indoor, outdoor and combined on mileage would be great. I wish that Strava jumped on this over the winter training season. Too cold to put in Fondo miles outside.

  • Any update on this? Would really like to take up some challenges for indoor training and/ or have indoor activity count against challenges.

  • So disappointed to see that this has been on your radar for two years.....  I want VIRTUAL challenges since you don't count my miles toward any of the existing ones.... I ride a LOT of virtual miles... IRL miles only in the summer.

  • Starting today, there is a Strava Challenge that includes Virtual Rides (Zwift): https://www.strava.com/challenges/le-col-season-starter

  • Ellie sorry nope - Manual entries, private activities, and trainer rides will not count toward your challenge effort.

  • @Michelle,

There are a number of people who are confused regarding the official rules that state that trainer rides don’t qualify (stationary trainer tag on a Ride) as opposed to a Virtual Ride which does qualify. If your activity is a Virtual Ride, it will qualify for the challenge I mentioned.

  • Trainer rides, in my opinion are tags more for spin class type activity, where the goal is the work out not a distance.Trainer rides also do no provide any type of GPS data, which if you are training, competing with someone there is not a good way to track the differences with the trainer tag. Virtual Rides in my opinion are meant more for the newer style virtual training programs, where competition between riders is going on like Zwift, Grand Tours, BKool etc. The Apples & Oranges became Oranges and Mandarin Oranges! Let's get this rolling, these applications are established, THOUSANDS using them DAILY, Let's get Strava to keep up with the technology changes!

  • We all have different reasons for why we ride indoors and I agree virtual rides should count towards all challenges

  • No they shouldnt. But by the very same token they should be totally allowed for some things. It isnt even difficult, just allow in certain bloody events. What is this? Some 80 year old holding onto his ideals or something there? lol

  • besides they still arent counting for me. 90% of my indoor rides are virtual courses, not workouts. I still have not once received a km in credit ever lol

  • Still waiting....!

Would love to have virtual rides count towards my Highest Climb stat too! For some bizarre reason it appears it's the only 'All-Time totals' stat that doesn't get included as part of virtual rides! I'm never going to be able to ride up Alpe d'Huez regularly, but on Zwift I can do it most months!
