Virtual Run activity type

I have made a Virtual Run application for treadmills where I use gpx files for show the track, streetview and other running information,  but now its uploaded as a Run, and this is not good because of segments, so like Virtual Ride, we need Virtual Run

  • This is also now very important for the newly pre-release of Zwift's running feature. All runs are now tagged as virtual rides.

  • Yeah, my Zwift runs are not showing up.  They auto report as Virtual Rides.  They need to fix that.

  • Chris, we were informed that Zwift runs would upload as normal runs on Strava, so I'm not sure what the problem is with your account.

We are indeed considering a Virtual Run category at this time but are still assessing the options.

  • Elle - initially they were uploading as regular runs which is sort of OK on Watopia but clearly no good for London or Richmond as, on London, I was matching segments I have "really" done.

I understand (from a support call I raised with you) that Strava then changed it so everything from Zwift is "locked" as a Virtual Ride.

Clearly doing a run and being called a bike is unsatisfactory.

So a Virtual Run category is the obvious solution here and hope it can be implemented in the near future.

    Thanks

    Tim

  • Elle, my run on Zwift (I've only done one so far) shows up as a virtual ride, too. When I edit the activity and save it, it defaults back to a virtual ride. Every other Zwift run I've seen by friends on Strava, has done the same.

  • My run from yesterday also uploaded from Zwift as a Virtual ride and it reverts back to virtual ride if you try to change it in Strava.

  • Is this because Stryd devices register as Power Meters or is it true of all footpods?

  • It is not much fun having to modify the fit file to fix this. Please give us a virtual run category, or at least stop tagging it as a virtual ride!

  • This is vital otherwise Zwift running simply won't work.

  • The problem is That Runs on Swift appears as virtual rides instead of running aktivities and it is not possible to change them back to running.

  • With the number of zwift users also using strava premium mayhap considering should change to implementing.
Would be a useful tool at the moment, wont be in 3 months time when weather breaks.
    Thanks

  • It's also not even possible to edit a mis-categorized virtual ride as a run, thus making it necessary to edit the fit file manually and re-upload.

  • Agreed.

  • I'm sure you are working on this with the Zwift team, but as above, a virtual run category would be great.

  • Yes support this idea to have Virtual Run activity type

  • Yes please.  Need a virtual run category for Zwift running on the treadmill and im sure more software from others to follow.

  • Zwift runs show up as virtual rides for everyone as far as I have seen. Also, if uploaded as a regular run, it effects real life segments like it did before virtual ride was created.

  • It seems that Zwift are now trying to offset the pseudo GPS points for runs in London from real roads and bridges so that they cannot match "real" segments. This hopefully suggests a resolution for the issue could soon be at hand and maybe we can just have our Zwift runs as a normal "Run".

  • I echo the need for virtual runs. Running activities on Zwift will make treadmill runs bearable and increase exponentially. This should be an easy (and logical) addition for Strava to make.

  • Currently having to record the run outside of Zwift so that I can upload as a run. Not ideal and I would also like to request that runs on Zwift be uploaded as a virtual run.

  • Surely this most be high up there on the future change log now that Zwift Running is being widely used.

  • Use Zwift running, save to Strava. Download .fit file to computer. Upload .fit file to Garmin Connect. Export activity as .tcx. Upload to Strava, select activity type as Run.

  • Work is in progress with Zwift to resolve the issue with Virtual Runs uploading as Virtual Rides. I will post information as soon as it is available.

  • Wanted to get the virtual run option on the radar of strava. Can you please update us on the status of this? Elle Anderson hasn't responded to this thread since 12/31/2016.

  • Please make the Virtual Run as an option for saving the Virtual Run. This is not a Virtual Ride. I don't want to do the manual fix. This must be quite easy for you to fix? Please :-)

  • In the next day or so, you should see your Virtual runs tagged as runs (and not rides) by Strava. Zwift is offsetting the GPS which prevents any segment matching for virtual runs.

  • Thanks Elle

This looks to have been fixed now from the runs and comments I can see.

The next "issue" might be elevation however as it looks like "real world" elevation is still appearing for runs on Watopia and for "real" that place in the Solomon Islands is very mountainous. Some of the GAP mile splits are well under sub 4 pace!
