Settings to hide Zwift trainer rides in feed

Is it possible to hide all the Zwift rides within a Strava feed?  It feels like it's turning Strava into a video game.  There should be an available setting to hide Zwift/trainer rides out of the daily feed.

  • +1 I would also like to be able to exclude virtual rides.

  • @Chris Heerschap I wouldn't be too worried about "Elle". In reality "she" most likely isn't a real person anyway, but a collective of employees who respond to community posts.

If you make your official replies come from a single point of contact and give it a nice young female personality it statistically reduces message board friction. Classic customer service technique.

  • I'd definitely like to be able to separate my Zwift km from my road km in my stats. I'm always going to want to upload my Zwift rides to Strava to keep a track of total time spent exercising but to be stuck with having to lump in virtual km with real km is annoying. Some of these Zwift activities are the hardest I've ever pushed on a bike so to discount them from my total training record wouldn't be right.

I also think that the feed should have the option of filtering out turbo/virtual activities. Real rides are much more interesting to check out than someone sweating away in the garage for an hour!! So come on Strava, give us that filter!

  • Actually considering a strava cull as the mass of indoor rides is getting seriously bad in the feed

  • +1... I don't care to see people's zwift activities on my feed

  • Can't we just make Zwift a separate activity type?  Give it its own leaderboards, feed, etc, but separate it completely from actual outdoor riding?  Then the zwift guys can continue tracking/competing at it, without affecting the rest of us.

  • I agree with Joe B - great suggestion. Make Zwift a separate activity type so we can compare like with like. This isn't an anti-Zwift vendetta--it's because Zwift data is polluting our real rides feed.

  • Simon, thanks for the morning chuckle. Elle Anderson is a real person, and a kick-ass pro cyclocross racer and has been on the podium in World Cup races.

I like Joe B's idea as well, have virtual rides as a completely separate activity type so it wouldn't be too hard to see someone's "real" mileage vs. their total. Being able to filter out virtual rides in the feed would probably be far, far easier to code, though.

  • I stand corrected, Chris. I'm sure now Skoda are paying Bradley Wiggins to advertise their jalopies he's running their corporate strategy too :-)

  • I agree with most comments posted.  I'm close to my wits end regarding seeing all the zwift rides in my feed. This winter has seen much more zwift activity and it has become near impossible to determine who is actually completing rides outside.  If this does not end soon, I will end my premium membership and go to a basic plan.

  • I am probably yet another rider annoyed at Zwift taking over what was a great platform to track "true" cycling activities. Fully supporting the idea to create a stand alone cosmos for the Zwifties and separate their activities from those that were completed on real roads or dirt. Probably means for Strava team to double up on challeges , leaderboards, club activities, etc. but after all - this is the evolution of any app - it needs to re-invent itself regularly to the demand of its customers. I have started to look at RidewithGPS as an alternative app now as it continues to go deeper into ride analytics whereas Strava looks to be recreating a cyclist's facebook platform - which to me would be abandoning its core USP...

  • Completely agree here. I am particularly galled that these fake zwift rides are laid on a map! It's completely false as these people were never there. Undermines the strava community and ethos in my view. At a minimum removal of the map view (by default) would be required and ideally these should be private.

    Hi Billy,

Thanks very much for reaching out. It's not currently possible to specify which activity types you'd like to receive notifications for, but I'll be happy to share your feedback with our Product development team.

Please let me know if I can assist with anything else.

    Best,

  • +1 for hiding virtual rides from feed. Not interested.

  • If Strava aims to promote social networking and engagement then the fact that I, like so many others on here, have now unfollowed those posting Zwift rides should be a real concern to them. Its not hard to filter these out, but if I am forced to use unfollow as the way to do it, then I will. Please allow me to filter virtual rides so I can follow those riders again for their real rides.

  • Dear strava: at least give us a Tool so we can abandon zwift from strava clubs, who want no zwift. Then at least you do something for us. At the moment i feel like strava does nothing for their users who hate zwift.

  • Not contributing anything new other than to say this isn’t strava. Strava isn’t a video game, it’s about recording real activities in the world.

I probably wouldn’t fee diffeenretly, but it wouldn’t make me angry if Zwift didn’t log completely fake rides in real places rather than some kind of phantasy world.

Tldr: in with everyone else here, this is ruining strava.

  • Feature request: I want to see my ride mileage, excluding my virtual rides. I do some work on a trainer, but I want to see how many real miles I ride each month.

  • Cancelled both my premium membership (since 2011) and my wife's due to the lack of movement on this. Will reconsider if and when they get around to addressing this.

  • Still waiting for any reaction of strava....I am already waiting for 2 years now and zwift and all its friends is annoying me more and more.

  • The solution is with another bugbear. If you set a ride to private it doesn't appear in your total which is dumb and annoying. I don't want to plague my friends with my commute or see theirs but I do want it on my total. Ditto Swift. Strava only needs to make that change.

  • I only ever open Strava now to rename my rides or runs / upload a photo.  I don't use the friends activity feed at all since it's so full of virtual nonsense.

  • Most annoying for me are those weekly stats on the clubboards with people who ride 9000 vertical meters indoors. Come on get serious Strava and abandon these stats. Every real biker should shame himself for such cheating.

  • Thanks @Erik Popp - we've mentioned the various browser plugins earlier in this thread - unfortunately it's not a solution for the mobile apps, or the leader boards. More troubling is the apparent shift in focus of Strava generally. As the OP said, it's becoming like a video game. Some of us ride partly to escape the virtual world of our computers, phones etc. And we resent this intrusion.

  • Glad to see I'm not the only one with this request. Zwift poisenes my activity feed and I really would love it I could filter it out.
