Set minimum speed for auto-pause

Would be a great feature to be able to manually set a minimum speed to activate the Auto-Pause feature. So when you have to slow down for lights or other slow downs it doesn't affect your AVG speed.

  • Yup. My Strava stats, particularly average speed and average heart rate, for all of my long bike tours are inaccurate simply because Strava factors in the walking around at rest stops. When I'm averaging 18+ mph for over two hours, walking to the bananas table or to the restroom should not be included in my moving time. Strava needs to allow users to set a minimum speed to activate and deactivate auto-pause.

  • So, come on STRAVA - is there or is there not an auto-pause when cycling? And can I adjust this minimum speed, just as I can with my Garmin Forerunner 301.

  • I really wish Strava would take these suggestions and comments seriously. Being able to set a minimum speed I would think would be a major advancement. Garmin has it. Walking around at a rest stop during a big tour and having it affect your average speed is unacceptable. Manually pausing while at a food stop only leads to forgetting to turn it back on again and that too is unacceptable. Come on Strava!

  • Alternatively, simply allow Garmin stats to sync with Strava and override Strava's avg speed, etc.  My Garmin and Strava rarely match.  I believe Garmin is more accurate because I physically start and stop it.  I see when it pauses. So, Strava . . .  allow a setting that allows the Garmin stats to be the stats shown on Strava. . . .  Thanks.

  • While a good idea, the purpose of Strava is to record as accurately as possible your movements. It sort of defeats the purpose if you have to rely on multiple devices to get a more satisfactory reading. What I've been doing is using my ordinary bike computer, which seems to be pretty accurate, and in the description line in Strava for a particular ride, I simply add Actual Average Speed: and enter the final average speed in both k/ph and mph.

I'm sure some day Strava will figure this out and update the software. Right Strava?

  • Revisiting this ... Hi Strava support team, any update here? Any plan to introduce a minimum speed to activate the auto pause? Or can we use a speed sensor for the auto-pause, that would be a lot more reliable than the GPS?

    Thanks and regards,

  • I agree with everyone that Strava needs to do this.  I use Strava on my Apple watch for running and if I'm on a steep hill, running slow or walking the auto-pause turns on and stops recording.  My heart rate meanwhile is through the roof and I'm working plenty hard, just not getting any of it recorded.

  • I fully agree with that too! Would indead be a great feature to be able to manually set a minimum speed to activate the Auto-Pause feature. So when you have to slow down for lights or other slow downs it doesn't affect your AVG. It would be much much better to adjust this minimum speed, just as Garmin.

I have made several test trips with simultaneous use of bike computer (spoke magnet), Garmin device, Mio device and the Strava app. But every time it is confirmed that the Garmin and Mio device are both very close to the value that my bike computer indicates but the Strava app each time is a lot slower concerning the average speed. This because the auto pause in the Strava app is not working properly at traffic lights and resting places . Please come with a solution for this because the Strava app is very nice to use for the rest.
