Bring Back Yearly Achievements

I see this year you reset the achievements but you are not showing them on the dashboard. I understand this has been discontinued because of complaints. Here is my suggestion. Allow user by user to turn on or off yearly achievements in the profile settings. Can't see that it would be hard change in the code. Here is the reason, I am 55 this year and been on strava for many years. My general activity is slowing down and so are my is general performance as to be expected. So early on I created some achievements that i am unlikely to get to again. Consequently I will not see many 1st, 2nd or 3rd overall best times and even more unlikely to see any KOM's. It is really dis heartening to look at my achievements after a ride and see I get nothing. At least with the yearly ones I had best this year etc. Now I am loosing any motivation and the whole idea of strava was to see that I was bettering myself. But the older I get the less likely this will happen so what is the point of me and strava and for sure what is the point of the premium account. I can simply use Garmin connect for all that strava is giving me right now. Please restore the yearly achievements even oif by default they are off. That then satisfies the moany pricks who wanted it gone and the older crew who just want to see how well they do each year.

Thank you

Alan

  • While I won't resort to needless name calling for those that don't want the feature (to each their own) - I would love to see this feature come back as well :)  I was so looking forward to it on the first outdoor ride of the season only to come home and find it was no longer active.  Please bring back, if at least for those of us that are Premium members, and perhaps make it something members can opt in or out of based on their own preference.  Thank you Strava!

  • I agree about it. Please bring back the yearly cups. I will not wait for any stormy backside wind for new cups.

  • Just went out and grabbed an annual KOM...oops no I didn't.  Can't see how there's any issue having a best of the year cup. Those who have the overall KOM still have it.   Bring annual cups back Strava!

  • I would like annual achievements to be plugged into at least the club portion where it seems like there is some work being done there. I am putting awards together for our club members in my tuesday, thursday night group I would like to present most improved(most PR's) and most KOM's in said year but not longer can. Maybe not return it the way it was just say how many KOM's we have in a give year how many PR's and top finish's etc. This wouldn't upset anyone and would just sit in the profile section.

  • Agreed. Cups are there to chase. Everyone loves a top ten. Some segments you have no chance of getting an overall top ten, but you do have a chance to chase the annual ones. Please bring these back. It was one of the best features.
    Thanks

  • Is there any way to see whether Strava has listened and done anything about this?

  • No idea but they need to do this again. It was one of the best features. I'd rather look at that than some random strava favourited pro athlete profiles and blogs. Sort it out strava, we all loved this feature

  • Strava really don't give a f&@? About any of this they are just waiting to be bought out by Apple or Google It has been said. Hopefully someone clever will come along and make it all redundant soon. I'd rather ditch the whole pro and elite athlete section altogether and just see age relevant results that encourage me to achieve the best I can, not give in to the results of people I would never have been in competition with and even 'younger me' that I can no longer emulate. I guess I need a different app if anyone has suggestions. I just want to track my ride, see where I improved since January each year after the Xmas / winter fattening  and get a little kudos from my friends for having a go. Yeah I'm not aiming high but I'm still aiming upwards.

  • Some more arguments:
-trails change over time slightly the conditions to faster or slower
-you have a yearly performance curve and increasing goals along your trainin period (which is also true also for the younger of us)

  • Another vote here for 'current year' trophies. I feel they really drive athletic performance, and drive engagement on the platform. Win-win!

January is so fun, getting out there and grabbing a top ten, even if it only lasts for a week.

Agree that having current year trophy notifications as an opt-in would be great.

One final reason to have it is because some all-time top tens are due to bad GPS and it's a bummer knowing you will never touch them while obeying the laws of physics.

Question that a lot of folks seem to have: what was the nature of the complaints that got the feature cancelled in the first place? Meryl Streep syndrome? Too many trophies to carry?

  • All I’d like is to have them applied to the individual user. I’m not trying to beat anyone else, especially given my age, but want to see how I do for the year. Doesn’t make sense to compare myself to my 40 year-old self.

  • I would love to see annual cups return. I've too many storm driven PBs now to make any acheivements now possible- that and age. I thought it was an awesome addition when they appeared and gutted when they left. Gave me something to look forward to coming out of winter, charting early season pogress. But not now.

  • Also, for people coming back from injury, notably runniners, this would have been excellent motivation- cheering on your mate who is showing some progress this year post whatever injury.

  • I think the work around for now could be to set up a new account each year, be 'username2019' and compete from scratch against myself. And do the same next year.

  • Totally makes sense to have a yearly PR for us aging athletes. Can't understand why you wouldn't add this.

  • They don’t give a shit about aging cyclists this much is obvious. I cancelled my subscription because it was doing nothing to help me only depress me that I am not as good as I once was. I even tried the Twitter route hoping that this would be more exposure but alas nothing. I have supported them since around 2010 with my $59 subscription and got absolutely nothing back lately. So very sad they abandon the users that got them to where they are today. Are you listening Strava you numpties, of course not. Bye Bye...
