Training Log Improvements - Feedback

I'm excited that you have added the training log tab. To improve functionality, add a weekly and monthly totals column. Likewise, create a training log that includes all activities-- not just the three triathlon sports.

  • Yes please at least include total weekly training hours in log, not just bss! As it is now, the training log is pretty useless

  • Hi Strava team. I'll shoot an idea. It's free, you are welcome.

For St valentines day challenge, you could make the people draw a heart in the map while running. That would be cool uh!!!   Also applicable for other challenges, especially on the bike, making people draw things. That's it.

  • Agree with Rich Velo from 1/14 - especially would like to be able to manually enter TSS for cross-training.

  • I would like to add notes to the year, month, week and day which aren't necessarily actual training sessions. Examples include targets or training plans, notes of sickness, review of the week, weather, etc.

Typically, when looking back in the calendar and spotting a few days off, it would be useful to see "skipped training due to fever" or the like. This would also be useful for reviews of periods which have passed (e.g. "working overtime this week resulted in less time for training").

Polar Pro Trainer, for all its flaws and now outdated solutions, really does this well.

I believe this would make retrospective use of the calendar more valuable.

  • It would be more useful if the training log included all sports.

  • Please include all sports in the training log.

My primary focus is running, so that's the view I watch most, but one of my primary XT activities in winter is snowshoeing, which doesn't show up as XT in the training log.

  • I don't think that Strava is listening to us. We have been complaining about the lack of additional activities, like paddling (SUP) etc for the past couple of years.

How difficult would it be to add a few more to the drop down menu, and then allow us to keep track of weekly and monthly totals.

Maybe we should take our premium accounts to another site.

  • Hi Don, there is another forum specifically regarding adding more activity types to Strava. Recently, this was posted:

"Strava's Head of Product here. We are currently working on adding these sports and will have another update very very soon. I am so sorry for the delay and thank you immensely for your patience."

We do appreciate your feedback, regarding the new Training log feature and other suggestions. This forum serves as a great reference for our product development team, and I can assure you that we are listening! Please keep the feedback coming.

  • It would be useful if the training log and calculation includ all sports, XT more specifically.

    Thanx a lot.

  • I love the new training log - with a few additions, it could become an online training journal.

    1. It would be terrific if a set of stats could show for each week (analogous to the set that shows for each ride):

       >  Show total training load for the week.  This is an important number to watch for periodization of training and peaking.

       >  Could also consider: Show Form/fitness/fatigue at end of each of each week;  week's total ascent, average power.

    2.  Have a text box, maybe off to the right or maybe as a link where you can write about the week. e.g.  “Second Week of BASE 2 training, felt a little tired the day after the long hill ride, might have been better to take the day off, but my right knee was feeling better after raising the seat 3mm... I tried this new type of strength endurance interval, etc“ These kind of notes are essential for looking back and learning from your training.

Strava keeps getting better.... thanks for all your hard work.  Apologize if there are separate posts about this.

    Thanks,

    Lloyd

  • Would like to see an option to update distance/bike to follow when it's time change chain.

  • For me, there is too much emphasis on running/cycling to be useful. I mean, it's the winter here in Canada, so I'd like my XC skiing to be really considered as part of my training.

  • As much as I would love a dedicated swim tab, a good alternative would to enable visualization based on time AND distance in the multi-sport tab, to keep track of progress...

That would work for ALL endurance sports...

  • I would absolutely love to have an activity report that shows weekly and monthly roll ups either for all activities or for individual activities (run, bike, etc).

  • Hi Strava people.  Can we get an update on the thinking around manually adding TSS to workout activities.  It is very necessary to make the training log feature useful.   There are several reasons I may not be training with power.  Most recently I was traveling, but forgot my computer.  I was unable to record power.

An update would be greatly appreciated.

  • @Ingvard - we already have this feature! https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/20927831-Adding-Gear-to-your-activities-on-Strava

@Seth - Be sure to subscribe to this thread for updates. There are no current plans, but it's definitely on the table.

As for the rest of you - thanks for continuing to add feedback! Although the training log is not currently under active development, the Product team is regularly reviewing the comments to help guide us for when we next work on this feature.

  • I am sick and tired of not being able to add miles to a treadmill/stationary bike session which records my heart rate, what an utter waste of time. I will happily cancel my premium membership as NO ONE at Strava EVER has the courtesy to reply to basic functionality requirements, the reports/training section is an utter joke. Goodbye.

  • I'd like Strave to do as Runkeeper and add  many different sports paddling, fotball, hockey floorball etc. Also let one include kCal and HR for these activities AND view them on the log. The only thing one can do now is to set as Swim and then enter desc. what one did Whitout HR data?  Love Strava but widen the Scope, please...

  • I think it would be great to add the Calorie information to the mouseover on the training log as well. Even better, would be to have some sort of system where people could choose the items they want to show up as priority in the popups. For example, I'd knock the Time field off the popup, as it's already there in the log as the key indicator. Showing it in the popup is repetitive.

  • I am very happy to see you have already added paddling, rowing, walking, and other options to the activity list, and also delighted with how you have organized the Training Log to show monthly totals.  Please consider, among your next priorities for the Training Log, integrating those other activities so that, for example, I can see my total hours of rowing and paddling in one view, and my total hours and km of cycling in another.  Thanks for keeping your user interface clean and (relatively) simple.  You have just displaced MapMyRide on my phone.

  • I am pleased you have added kyak as an activity. Please can it feature in the training log to show the time spent. If it is listed as cross training or similar in addition to run, bike & swim. Thanks. Still a great service /app you provide!

  • Please add "Strength Training" as an activity.  It is one of the pillars and certainly more relevant that many of the more obscure items you have on the list.

  • @Joshua - we currently have "Weight Training" as an activity type. Does that suffice? However, at this time we only show cycling and running (and swim) activities on the Training Log. I gather from this thread that it's a pretty popular request to show other activity types in the Training log as well!

  • Definitely +1 from me. It would be awesome if the training log was linked to settings, and you could select which activities appeared on your log, or just have an exhaustive list of your uploaded activity types at the top of the screen, with a checkbox to turn any and all on or off.

I would spend half my time using that tab if it offered this feature.

  • Ability to add other activities

    1) Field sports  - nice to see how far you've gone while playing.

    2) Strength training whether it is the weight room or as simple as push-ups/sit-ups

    3) Other activities (e.g skiing)

  • I wanted to point out a related feature suggestion forum that is specifically requesting that the Training Log display other Activity Types besides Running/Cycling/Swimming:

    https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/26352755-Select-other-Activity-Types-in-the-Training-Log-for-Multi-sport-training

Please add your vote if you agree!

    Thanks for your feedback.

  • +1

Let me customize my training log to include whatever activity tag you already support. Otherwise, I have to use another tool to log my training.

  • I'd love to be able to see a suffer score for Workouts or anything where I wear my heart rate monitor - not just Cycling and Running.  If I log a gym sesh as cycling I get a suffer score, change it to Workout and the suffer score vanishes!
