Feedback for Running Races

Featured Running Races on Strava:

From the Explore tab, you can find a list of our currently featured races. Click on a race to open the race page and join.

On adding a new race:

We currently have an internal system in place to add races periodically using an algorithm based on the race's popularity amongst our athletes. This is reviewed several times a year but at this time we are not able make any promises that we can add other races manually. Please check out our current race list and keep an eye out for new events as they are added. We are constantly working to improve the Strava Races feature and hope to be able to add more races in the future.

    Thanks everyone for the feedback.

If there is a race missing from our feature, please note that we are not manually adding new races at this time. If a current race has an error, contact us directly and we can make the edit.

We are currently discussing whether it's possible to allow any Strava athlete to add a featured running race so as to increase the race selection. Stay tuned and continue to add your support here.

  • This is a great feature, it would be even better if there was a way to allow users to freely add races directly to the site in the same way they can create clubs, segments etc. If Strava want to keep the option on a main or "real" race then cool.

  • You guys are not updating running races pages anymore. I submitted multiple races and they aren't showing up... And I'm not talking about small local races, I'm talking about large professionally organized half marathons (NYRR) and ultras (The North Face series)... Just one example: one of them is the largest half in the U.S. with almost 30,000 runners, the Airbnb Brooklyn Half. If you can't be bothered to add those, then I have a hard time to subscribe to the paid version myself and/or recommend the Strava app to my friends... Sorry but true.

  •  Strava, this is very poor service. Especially for those like myself who pay money for a premium account. Honestly, the "Add a race" feature has nothing to do with a premium service. I have suggested lots of major german running races in the past that take place in Frankfurt/Germany such as the half marathon in March. There is not even a reception confirmation and neither a "sorry, we cannot add your race due to this or that reason". Simply nothing. This is very poor. I like the race feature a lot and I hope you guys improve your service especially for your premium customers

  • You could use this list to decide what race to add to Strava : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAAF_Road_Race_Label_Events

  • The curation of this list bites.

First off, "because I'm running in it" isn't considered good enough? Why? If I'm a premium member and the race has open registration, then it should be added. End of story.

Why not let Premium members add races and the community flag anything that is inappropriate or spam?

I've never had my submissions accepted, including big things like the upcoming Polar Dash in Minneapolis. It kinda pisses me off.

  • this is such a bizarre way to handle this issue.  i have calculated the odds of somebody clicking this button and finding their particular race on the list at roughly 0.00007345097%.  if you aren't going to take this feature seriously, then just take it off the main page.

  • This discussion has been going on for three years. So many people want the option to add a race of their own. The "find a race" feature is great! I used it for a race a few years back and loved being able to see what others were doing to prepare for the race. I have done races since that have not been on the list. So many people on Strava would like to be able to add a race they are doing. I am sure you guys have reasons for this not happening yet but hear us out. I am doing the JFK50 next week and it is not listed. It is the U.S.'s oldest ultra with over 1200 participants. If it's not listed, the option to suggest it for your consideration would be nice. Thank you.

  • The Boston Marathon doesn't make the algorithm cut? I mean, I've heard it's a little popular. In fact, it might be a good QC check against your algorithm to see if all the World Marathon Majors are on there.

  • Is the featured races totally dead? Only shows December 2018, and there are not that much days left on that. :)

Is there a website to see all running races in the world? Of course there is not, but any ideas on good databases?

  • I like this race feature as well, but think it would be even better if there was a user submission form to make it easy for users to add races.

    Please add this race: http://www.hartfordmarathon.com/Events/NU_Hartford_Marathon.htm

    Thank you!

  • I agree with Kent Altunay. I, too, quite like this race feature, and it's upsetting to see no reaction to the requests (my request in 2016 wasn't taken into account and I didn't even try to send more requests for 2017, as I saw no point in that).

You make the Premium users see the ads (!!!) about the gear we can buy at the strava store, which is quite absurd, regarding the fact that we pay, in particular, to not see the ads in the app. And you don't do your job well here, in the requests section.

I am seriously considering switching to another app.

  • No idea why Berlin Marathon isn't a featured race, it was last year and it was really great being able to see what everyone else who had similar goals was doing for training.

  • What is happening with the featured races section? I live in Switzerland and virtually the only races I see are in the UK - where every single village race seems to be listed (Chester, Cambourne, Stafford, Fleet ?!) but nothing on the continent (in Switzerland but also in my native Holland, Rotterdam marathon with 25k participants, The Hague half in March (20k+), Paris marathon in April is not there, etc etc.

Strava is great, but this section does not live up to your usual standards.

  • I love the feature, as per previous commentators, I too would like the ability to add (or suggest) specific races. In the mean time, could you please add the Athens Marathon, which follows the original route from the battlefield of Marathon to the centre of Athens?

  • I like this feature , but it could / must be more powerful :

    * Create an option for bike/cycling races

    * Include filter for type of bike race (road, mountain bike, down hill, etc)

    * Identify and validate the city where the event start the strava database (just like strava did at user location)

    * Add optional field for sign up date limit

    * with city and sign up date , identify and show for strava users what living close of the events

    * add at user alert settings an option to receive alert of new or with timeout/sign close events (with option to select how close could be ... same city, state, country or entire world)

  • No races in Minnesota. Not posting any suggested races. No responses from Strava support on anything.

    This feature is not functioning.

  • I joined the Prague Marathon featured race in 2015, but now it is not showing for 2017? Do I need to request this?

Prague Marathon is a IAAF Gold medal Marathon with 10,000 participants, it is not a small marathon.

Please add the 2017 Prague Marathon, the same as in previous year(s).

  • Athens Authentic Marathon is not on the calendar of the available Strava races this year (I remember it was listed for the last years). I believe it would make a good addition, since it is the most popular race in Greece, with around 30.000 participants in the main event and parallel races. Thanks!

  • So the Biggest Update of the Year put Races more prominently on the top right hand side of the screen where I am guessing any upcoming race will be displayed under Your Events together with your upcoming goals (?). I see a new button, "Find a race", which redirects to the Running Races page. Should we expect an update soon?

For me it feels like a joke to be given that find a race option, only to click and then find no race taking place in Greece (even though the page now seems flooded with races all over the world), not even the Athens Marathon, you know, the authentic one, the one that runs over more or less the actual course that marathons took their name from? (12/11/2017: http://www.athensauthenticmarathon.gr/site/index.php/en/ including parallel 5 & 10k events with a total participation of more than 40,000 runners)
