    > I'm still getting the problem that my watch shows a grey line indictaing the ride but gives a total of 0 for the week. It's the same on my iPhone and iPad but the website shows me the true weekly total. Anyone else have the same problem?

Yes. The app's a week off. If you slide back to the "previous week" it shows the totals for the current week. Probably some bug with calculating the week number wrong on the transition to a new year.

  • Will swim data be collected from Apple watch in the future?  I am aware that the watch is not promoted as waterproof, however it is.  That said and to avoid apple issues, could a "other workout" category be added to the watch app which would collect heart rate data from watch when selected via force touch?  This would be very helpful for triathletes and swimmers.  The watch is a very reliable way to get heart rate data on a swim.

Yes, you're right. That works on the iPhone and iPad but not the watch of course. The bug was there before the new Year as I saw it at the end of Dec (watch was a Xmas present) and it wasn't the case before I installed the watch app but hopefully they'll sort it out soon.

  • I have the following combination:

    wahoo tickr and apple watch.

Is by any chance a way to turn of HR detection on the apple watch?

Since we have deep winter here and I am wearing the watch over my jackets, I don't want the watch to check for HR.

Data from wahoo tickr was not recorded even though I was wearing it.

  • Hello!  I just started using Strava with with my apple watch.  I am having problems keeping strava open to see my stats while I am running, it always goes back to the watch face.  While I have strava operating I would like it to show when I rotate my wrist.  Often it is the watch face that opens, then I have to go into the apps and click on Strava to see my stats; distance, pace, time etc.  Any advice would be appreciated!

  • I had quite the terrible experience with Strava and the Apple Watch. First its not native which was a real let down considering many companies have native apps now that even allow training to be done on the watch ( Run Keeper ) and the biggest let down of all was the lack of indoor apple watch support. So i don't understand why support the device if its just a viewer for your phone and not a true running app. I sadly had to cancel my Strava Premium account because i run on my treadmill as well as out doors and hate brining my iPhone. To see Strava lag behind Run Keeper was rough, but i had to do it because logging in manual runs was getting old and the app should be native by this time along with indoor support etc. Just my .2 cents.

  • @Kelly Betting:

Go to the Watch app on your iPhone, then to General -> Wake Screen and select "Resume Last Activity"

  • Hi Eric/Jeremy,

Yesterday my first race (after a lot of trainings also with the beta versions) with the Strava App on Apple Watch and my iPhone in my backpocket.

Worked out pretty well, besides 2 main remarks:

    1. Heartrate (see attached file) showed a few flat lines, but was not accurate for first 2 km's and last 4 km's. First 2 km's probably due to the cold weather, but the last 4 km's? Maybe because there was more wind the last 4 km's which made it feel colder?
    2. Haptic signal for every km on Strava doesn't work. I've checked all settings. What am I doing wrong?

Can you help me to solve this?

    Best regards,

    Gert

  • I'm using Strava on my Apple Watch paired with a Wahoo Tickr. The iOS app appears to be using the Wahoo for heart rate, but the watch app appears to be using the optical heart rate sensor on the watch. Is there any way to configure this or disable heart rate on the watch while using the Wahoo? This is the only thing keeping me from dumping my Garmin and strictly using Strava on my Apple Watch.

  • I´m completely frustrated with the apple watch app, because I like running without my cell phone, since it´s a BIG iphone 6 plus. So the only app that works without the phone is the fitness app and it does not sync to strava.

1 - Strava should have an option to record running without the phone, using accelerometer

2 - Or it should sync the data from the fitness app.

So there will be a way to record running without the phone

  • So I just uninstalled strava from the apple watch - mainly because when I use strava on the watch, it displays the heart rate but it doesn't record that data to the activity -

  • @Strava

    Well done!

The latest version of Strava 4.10.0 has sorted out the updating your weekly goal although there is still a discrepancy between the figure where the graph is, which is correct, and the figure under the start circle which is a little different. Not important but maybe could be sorted in next update. Otherwise heart data goes into the activity fine and is ok for normal rides as the sampling rate is low of course. I might use a heartrate strap for more serious training.

@michael wong maybe you haven't set Strava to read heartrate data in the health app. There are a few hoops to jump through to get it all working.

  • I have uploaded an image from my Strava account of a simple shopping trip to show heartrate data going into Strava for those still having problems with it. This was done in 2 degess centigrade so temp is not a problem really as long as the watch strap is pretty tight.

  • I too can't get the heart rate to work. I had it recording my heart rate from Apple Watch for 2 or 3 rides, then it just stopped. Hasn't worked since. Even after restore by my iPhone from a backup and deleting strava and reinstalling. I can see the heart rate within Strava on the watch but it is not recorded within an activity on the phone.

  • The heart rate is much better with the latest versions. The watch does seem to prefer warm skin though, with fewer horizontal lines in warm weather or covered by clothing during cold weather.

  • I'm running the latest firmware on both phone and watch. As I say I have had a few sessions where the heart rate was fully recorded then a bunch where it was ignored. Last ride it recorded it for half the journey then stopped.

The full trace is there in the health app but Strava ignores it.

  • While I find the Strava Apple Watch app very useful, it does drain a significant amount of battery life. It seems to be due to the always on heart sensor. I wish there was a way to turn it off. Just tracking my commute to work and back (8 miles total) uses nearly half of my watch battery. I also think when it its paused, it is still reading heart beat.

  • When I record HR data in Strava Apple Watch I generally just get a handful different heart rates recorded on a hour workout(!) First I thought it was due to poor reading conditions for the sensor, but then I checked the Health app on the iPhone and there was an abundance of data! Up to 3 strong readings pr minute at the same time as the Strava app was reading 1 per 5-10 minutes!

    To sum things up:
Why does the Health app have a lot of HR data, and the Strava app not?

  • I went for a long run yesterday using Strava (via my Suunto watch) and went to see how it looked in the Health App on my iPhone 6+. Although it says that it's linked, none of the data was there. I went back in time and looked for other runs and couldn't find them. Anyone having trouble with Strava not uploading to the Health app?

BTW, I did wear my apple watch for music and it didn't register the run bc I didn't have my iPhone with me.

    Thanks.

  • After updating the Strava app on my iPhone yesterday, there is no longer a pulse being recorded for activities. The watch states that I should check my iPhone for messages, but there aren't any. I can start the activity and finish it from the watch, but no pulse was recorded for an 8km run. I've reinstalled, performed a hard reset - no help. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    John

  • I was using the strava Apple Watch app as my go to on the watch mainly due to the callout on each lap with average and lap pace and a vibration to boot. So I suited up for a marathon this past weekend and apparently the lap callout is gone???  Or at least it didn't come up on any of my 26 miles. Not cool. Anyone???

  • Tried everything to get haptic feedback and sound signal for every kilometer on the Apple Watch instead of sound message on iPhone. But whatever I try and do the sound message keeps coming on the iPhone and no haptic feedback or sound signal on the Apple Watch.

How can I solve this issue? PLEASE help me?!

  • It would be nice if in settings a configuration existed that would allow us, by starting (or stopping) Strava, also the workout app started (or stopped)  on the apple watch

  • One thing I would like to see is the ability to select other sports - in my case I cycle and kayak, so I use the run option when kayaking and then update the sport in the app afterwards... same issue applies to phone app I guess.

  • Agree with John Nowak - my three would be run/bike/cross-country ski, so would appreciate flexibility in choosing what my three main sports are vs. assuming a typical triathlon.

  • Agree with all of the comments that it would be far better to display the heart rate from a bluetooth HRM as the iphone app does rather than using apple watches cheesy heart rate monitor. Will this ever be a feature?

  • Heartrate readings are flaky, and long stretches where it doesn't record, then starts up again mysteriously. Makes it useless for analyzing heart rate when a 15 minute stretch has a flat reading of a single value.

  • I have been beta tester for Apple Watch app and have appreciated the work and resultant success you guys have had, seems quite solid now.

What can I expect with external Bluetooth sensors with strava, and using the Apple Watch to start activities?

As the Apple Watch triggers the opening of the iPhone strava app - does this allow the iPhone to discover and pair with these external Bluetooth sensors? I have had no success so far with a new cadence sensor and it appears I will have to manually open the strava app on the phone first.

Comments? Should it work now or will it work in the future?
