  • Hi

The Strava app won't open on my Apple Watch. I get the spinner and it carries on spinning until it dies and goes back to the watch face. I've tried closing the app using the long press buttons.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app on the watch.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone and then to the watch.

I've tried restarting watch and phone.

I have a new Apple Watch (got it in December) and have upgraded OS to 2.1

My phone is the 6 plus running OS 9.2

All other apps both new and old run on my watch except for one other that does the same thing.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Eric

  • Apple watch series 2 app stopped working for me. It opens and shows the 'start' button, but pressing it does absolutely nothing. The button digitally suppressing shows me it's feeling the touch (so not necessarily a watch hardware issue) but the tracking never starts. Worked a few weeks ago fine, but now won't begin tracking.

  • Same issue as Guy, Doug, Kile,  Lawrence, Greg and Amanda. The start button appears but nothing happens when pressed. Tried deleting and re loading the app, it worked fine on Tuesday 21st March, really frustrating!!

  • I recently tried starting the strava app on my apple watch and, while it does initiate, the "start" button is non-responsive.  I can't get past it.  The last successful usage was on 2/27.  Now the app is unusable.

  • Please provide "lock screen" function to Strava app on Apple Watch. Such option is available in Apple Workout app during activity (hard press->lock screen).

Sweaty sleeve of my rain jacket keeps interrupting my activities! Thanks in advance

  • I went for a run today with my watch (series 2) and left my phone at home. When I hit 'start' on the watch app, literally nothing happened. I hit it a bunch of times, tried restarting the watch, nothing worked. In the end I recorded the run with Runkeeper :(

  • I have an Apple Watch series 2 and the watch app has now become unusable. I open the app on my watch, and I get a screen with the Strava logo and a circular indicator that just spins forever, and the app never starts recording. I have deleted and reinstalled the app, and the same problem still exists. Eventually the app shuts down, i.e the Strava logo disappears, but when I start it again, same thing. So essentially the watch app is now useless.

  • I have tried to read through all these comments but have not seen the issue that I face. I only use the Apple Watch to track runs, as my Garmin 520 is fantastic for my cycle sessions. But have been noticing that while on a run the Apple Watch Strava app will just arbitrarily end the session - there does not seem to be any one factor that would stop the session (whether it be time based or distance based).

It started on this run https://www.strava.com/activities/487738731 it just ended before my run finished.

This morning I was out on a run and it just ended and the next time I glanced at my watch it was back at the start icon for a new session. https://www.strava.com/activities/493926684

Its been cool in the morning and I have been running with a long sleeve top and I wonder if that in some way has been inadvertently ending the session. Curious to hear if other people have had similar issues. I have the latest versions of Strava app, iOS and WatchOS.

    Thanks

  • Since installing 4.19.0 (June 20th 2016) on my iPhone the watch app no longer works.  I'm running iOS 9.3.2 on a 5c and my watch is on 2.2.1

Now when I open the watch app to start recording it won't switch sport and attempting to start the activity just results in an empty screen with spinning heart.  If I restart the watch then the first time I attempt to use the app it appears to just crash when starting the activity or switching sport (after a few seconds cuts back to watch home screen).

I've tried removing and reinstalling the app on both watch and phone but same behaviour.

I've had about 2.5 months of relatively trouble-free use prior to this.

  • Running iOS 9.3.2 on iPhone 5C with Apple Watch 2.2.1 and Strava v4.19.0 (4370). Every time I try to START Strava from the Apple Watch, I get a black screen on the Watch and then it reverts back to the START screen.

Once in a while, I'll see "Error. Check Strava on your iPhone for prompts. Also, be sure Bluetooth is enabled in Settings", but I see no prompts and bluetooth is enabled.

It does appear that clicking START on Watch, starts the Strava app on the phone but nothing appears on the watch,

  • New (to me) issue this evening. Went for run with Strava on my watch, came home and the watch connected to my iPhone as usual, got the "your workout is ready to upload" notification, but there nothing in Strava.

Have tried force quitting the app and restarting, but still hasn't uploaded.

Hope I haven't lost the run.

  • Apple Watch Strava Syncing Issues

I have Strava iOS version 5.13.0 on my iPhone,  iOS 10.2.1 on my iPhone and Apple Watch watchOS 3.1.3. Today I went for a ride but when I got done I completed and saved the session on my Apple Watch. I did not however open Strava on my iPhone until a few hours later. When I did so I expected my watch and phone to sync but nothing happened. As far as the iOS app is concerned it is like the workout never occurred. Interestingly enough the Activity app on the iPhone shows that ride. Is there anyway to get this workout on the Strava iOS app? Thank you.

  • Same for me - The watch doesn't reliably keep recording, but if you start on the iPhone, you get no data on the watch (Watch Series 0).

You can see on this activity - https://www.strava.com/activities/907130054 - my partner recorded 30km, I got 16 - there's a visible gap in the middle of the ride.

Can it be an option to have it run on the phone and show on the watch for those of us with older devices?

    Thanks!

  • Completely botched app - quite frankly absolutely useless. Just ran outside, with my phone left at home, and when I got done the watch said it would upload my workout as soon as it paired again with my phone. Well, I've been home for 20 minutes, with my phone in my hand, and nothing. And there doesn't seem to be a way to view activity history on the watch, so I can't even manually enter the run. Last time I ran with just my watch and the Strava app, the GPS was completely out of whack for half my run.

The massive delay between the release of Watch OS 2 and this version of the app led me to believe the Strava engineers were going to release something amazing. I was wrong.

  • Just a note of support. Been having all the similar issues with apple watch Strava app freezing upon excercise completion and the HR light remaining on. I commute and use the watch 6-8 times a day to log miles to clients in NYC so it was super helpful to find the discussion on the forum. Glad it's on their end and not yours. Love the app otherwise. Looking forward to the next OS versions.

  • It's not clear to me whether updates to the iPhone app will automatically push updates to the Apple Watch app if the Strava app is on my watch, but Automatic App Install is off (General: App Install).

  • Ugh! I am having the exact same problem as Michael Taylor, and have been since trying to use the WatchOS 2 version of Strava. Like Michael, it doesn't matter if I have my Wahoo Tickr Run HRM paired to the watch (my preference), to the phone app, or not at all (at which time the green lights on the back of the watch illuminate), all I ever see in the lower right corner of the app is the "circling" outline of a heart. No numbers, and and no data when the workout is complete. I get how this is all supposed to work, and I am completely confident that it is not user error. I want to settle into Strava as my fitness app, but cannot do so until this actual works as described and as (apparently) others are experiencing. Micheal, can we help each other troubleshoot? I ordered my watch on the launch date (delivery May 2015). You? Also, I also cannot het HR data from Runkeeper's OS2 app. Have you tried? (I'm wondering if it is a hardware issue.)

  • I have several of these problems. I believe many of these issues stem from notifications that come in during the run.

    1. Today, there was a 15 minute flat-line in my heartrate data. It seemed to recover after I futzed with my watch during the activity. It started right about the point where my watch stopped updating data after I dismissed a notification.
    2. Once I get and dismiss a notification during an activity, Strava stopped showing up when I raised my wrist. I think Runkeeper does the same thing. I had to manually launch Strava, even though the green exercise man was showing.
    3. Also after the notification came in, when I raised my wrist, the screen displayed was always the "Stop activity" screen, probably since it's the first.

My hunch is that after dismissing a notification, the watch "forgets" that it's supposed to show the exercise app on a wrist raise. When you force it (by toggling the setting to always show the last app and not the watchface), it re-launches the previous app and shows the first screen by default, which in Strava's case is not the data screen but the "stop" screen.

It's really a shame that all these apps have problems like this.

  • I have the exact same issue with the first split when starting the activity with the watch. I have had a 2mo conversation with support where they are totally unhelpful. I had to break down the issue and manually reproduce it for them, because they didn't seem to be able to.

Glad to see someone else has the issue.

  • When i start run from the Watch i get dots moving on the Watch screen and the app does not move to start button. I waited couple of minutes to check what happened. Closed app on the Watch and on the phone. It did not help. A quick solution for that problem is to turn on and off Air plane mode on the Watch and on the phone. I have iPhone 6 and Watch with latest iOS and Strava installed. Would be great if you could correct this issue.

  • I've had my apple watch 2 for about 4 weeks.  The heart rate data was uploaded to strava for my first few activities, but this has now stopped.  I've tried re-installing strava on my iPhone SE.  Strava and 'Health' are properly linked - I have allowed Strava to access HR data in 'Health'.  Any help would be gratefully received.

  • Since the new update when starting a work out on iPhone it doesn't show on the app on Apple Watch. Do not want to start workout on watch as doesn't speak pace, too temperamental when wet and often pauses which can be infuriating when doing long runs. Need an option for Apple Watch 1 users to just have a strava data display as it used to be

  • Matthew Wilson: thank god it's not just me!!
The new iWatch Strava app update is plain sh1t. Now the app saves your run/ride as something like a gpx  file then updates the phone after the event. If you start the activity on the phone nothing shows up on the watch. Also audio announcements have stopped completely... Strava want you to pay premium (which I am currently) and the bloody app does not work.
STRAVA - go back to the old app - it worked, don't cock about with it.
