Organizing Routes / Route Search

I love Strava! I just wish I could organize my Routes by distance, elevation, rating, starting location, road vs mtn Bike), or even more simply be able to search the route name would be a great improvement.

Thanks for the great App!

  • for what it's worth, I use Veloviewer sometimes to at least organise and hunt for routes that are on Strava.  In the long and distant past I used bikeroutetoaster but that isn't ideal any longer.  I'll take a look at RidewithGPS.  Cheers

  • Couldn't agree more. At its simplest, the routes page could simply be sortable in the same way as the "My Activities" page. That would be a great interim fix. Thanks guys, keep up the great work.

  • Hey everybody - I'm updating an existing app of mine to add some "missing" Strava features, and the first one I worked on was organizing/sorting/searching routes. You can check it out here:

    https://goingstreaking.herokuapp.com

    What you can do:

See all your routes in table that can be instantly sorted, filtered, and searched

Organize your routes using tags, so you can quickly find routes of a certain type of that have certain features.

Check out your route details, add/remove tags, or take a look at the route on Strava

So check it out and let me know if there are any features I'm missing. Thanks!

  • Hey @Adam, that is great! I've checking the app and it's got basically what I need. thumbs up!

I guess if Strava is not providing what we need it'll have to be done via 3rd party apps..

Got a suggestion if I may, could it be possible to include a thumbnail showing an image of the route in the list? It'll be easier to recognise the route we are looking for.

Other suggestion is to include the profile of the route, without the need of opening it in Strava to check it. Having the elevation gained is great, but probably not enough.

    Thanks again!

  • Glad you like it. I will play around with thumbnails of the routes in the listing. Making them small enough to fit in the list didn't really provide enough detail to recognize the route, so I will probably have to set up a second type of view.

Elevation profiles are on the list, I'm tinkering with that and hope to have it done this week.

  • That's cool - thanks for the work (although I barely use STRAVA for routes any more). The only things missing, other than a thumbnail, is that it refreshes the list to standard when you go back a page after looking at a route. i.e. 100/page back to 10/page. Otherwise brilliant.

See how easy that was STRAVA?! 😎

  • That really is nice.  I may actually put the effort in to add some tags so I can just look for hilly routes of 4 hours etc.  Really nice, thanks.  If we're making suggestions for enhancements(!) then something that allows me to look for "routes near ... " would be great.  Already using it without that feature though. cheers.

  • Adam - this works a treat, thank you for sharing.

Strava - words fail me as to why you don't listen to customer feedback or develop your product. Too busy selling our data I guess.

  • Wonderful job Adam! Just what most of us needed for managing Routes on Strava. Extremely well thought and designed. I'm sorry I only checked this out now, months after your release but I just love it! The combination of Search, Sorting and Tags are most useful and fulfill my needs. The only minor feedback would be to retain the select of number or routes select (10/25/...100) but not a big deal. Could maybe replace 100 by "All", but I don't have that many routes anyhow. Very neat that the search applies to all routes, not just the ones showing!

Thank you for the wonderful work!

  • Adam,

This is brilliant! While not perfect, I like how I can search via Title, Miles, Elevation, or Time. By reading others ideas of "Tags", is this where we can put "Hilly" or "Flat" or "Rose Bowl" to further delineate the ride?

Thanks for your time 7 efforts! This is a great step...!

(And I echo all the others who wonder out loud, "why the hell hasn't Strava agreed to do this...?")

  • Elle Anderson, there is a large portion of your subscribing audience that likes to build new routes. We would also like the ability to find some of our OLD routes more easily. "Adam R." has figured a way to manipulate Strava data so that we can sort it as we wish; why can't Strava do that?

There are a lot of cornier requests that are asked and seem to get attention, but they don't seem to be as viable and/or as relevant to making Strava a better product, as organizing Routes is!

Please answer this post personally, so that we know why it's just been "crickets" out there for the past 4-5 years...!

  • My route library is getting pretty big, I would love a simple search that would allow me to find routes with certain words in the title, search by elevation gain range i.e. 1000 to 1200 meters and distance range 50 to 60km, please add this ASAP

  • Thanks for adding your comments, everyone! I've been reading through the various posts in the forum and while you may not hear from us (or me), we're definitely taking everything you share into consideration. Keep on commenting and upvoting so when I share with the team, I can show the overwhelming popularity with these requests.

  • Jess,

If you are a rep from Strava, then you should know how popular “Sorting Routes” is. There are over 500 threads that mention it, not just this one. If you’re with Strava, make it a point to have this a viable option by the end of this quarter...!

  • We are glad to be a Strava user and agree that this simple feature as missing my strava route manager is very needed. We organize cycling tours anywhere in Europe and create routes for each our custom&private tours on Strava as creating them here is very easy and the Strava heatmap helps a lot. But now we already have many hundreds of different routes and with no option to sort them it gets a bit problematic. We are about to move to another app with more functionality. Although we will definitely try out https://goingstreaking.herokuapp.com what looks quite good. Thanks for this!

We are really surprised in no comments from Strava support team.

  • I have just made the move to ridewithgps for route drawing.  Not being able to sort routes is madness - perhaps put a trainee programmer on it for a couple of hours?  ridewithgps also makes a nice job of importing strava routes and them still being editable.  Bit dull as it was handy having everything in one place but this isn't changing soon so off we go!

  • Echoing this - but by CITY/location of sorts.

So I've got 80 routes. I moved cities etc. I want to keep all my routes for when I am back in that city, but am not interested in them now at all...

Would be ace to be able to filter them... by elevation, distance, and city / state / countrylll

  • The other issue is that if you want to sync your routes to Wahoo ELEMNT, then you run out of space on the head unit because EVERYTHING is synced, not just the 5-10 routes that are current of future.  If there was a way to keep them without syncing, that would be good too.

  • I love using Strava, and I love the community it builds but its completely asinine they don't provide a way of searching through personal routes.. This is a total miss on their part.  like... really?  REALLY? REALLY???  I would probably have less routes if it was easier for me to search for my previously made routes.. I would have even lesser routes if they provided an organized way to search through the people I'm following routes..  Does ridewithgps own that function or something? Man..  its frustrating how much of those functions Id wish Strava would adopt (and vice versa)

  • Agreed: a feature for organizing, filtering, and searching through routes is much needed!

  • Please, this is so simple to implement, I can't believe it is not available on the website. Just a simple name search for own routes would be great for people having lots of routes in his account.

  • I organize and plan routes for our local bike shop.  There are 200+ routes within that database and they are impossibleeee to search. Had to create our own spreadsheet to organize the routes. Unfortunately as much as I love strava mapmyrides searchability is pushing us towards going down that road at least for our group rides. NOOOOOOOOOO. Please create this feature!!!

  • Guys, I think it's pretty shocking Strava continue to ignore these requests and do something which would offer so much value for relatively small development effort.

However, there is a fabulous tool on VeloViewer (which I now use for all route searching etc) where you can see your routes. You can search, filter and sort by them and they link straight to the Strava routes. I now only use Strava routes to create the route in the first instance then use VeloViewer for the rest.

  • The plug in created by Adam R seems like exactly what we are looking for.  Unfortunately I cannot get the site to pull my data from Strava.  The spinning wheel just a keeps on spinning saying that it is 'Fetching Strava Data' and goes nowhere fast from there.  Any thoughts?  Please help.
