Choose the order of photos on an activity

I'd like to be able to manually order the photos added to an activity. I thought they would show in the order they were added, but it seems they're not. Be much better if once added, I could drag and drop them to get them in the order I want.

    An update for Android phones:

The order of the photos will now be the order they are selected in the photo picker (or the order when they are added and saved, if you are adding them one by one).

iOS is still working on the UI, so iOS photos will still be by the timestamp on the photos for the time being.

    Thanks!

  • I would like this feature as well.  My experience is that they end up being ordered by timestamp of photo.  So crude way to reorder is to open/update/save in reverse order you want them to show, then upload. Yes it is annoying to have to do this :-).

  • Dear Strava,

This has been on your 'radar' for some time...

Functionally, such a simple (and very useful) ability to at least choose the headline photo. We have abosilutley NO control at present.

    Please sort this out...!!!

  • This is been an issue for a long time. At the very least, allow us to choose the cover photo. Thanks

  • We've been able to do this for a few weeks now using the strava app...

  • Well Elle, this request has been on your "radar" for over an year now! I guess radar is full, like airports with planes stacked up waiting to land. In this case, all the planes have run out of fuel and have CRASHED. Keep up the great work!!!

  • Hello! For a while now, Strava has offered the option to choose the highlight photo, the one that appears first in the feed. Other than that, we don't have plans at this time to develop further photo ordering controls.

  • So I'm up to speed with the new 'order selected = order displayed' system from iOS.  However - I have 26 photos from a 300km ride, and I want to display them in chronological order.  I've selected them in chronological order - but for some reason Strava doesn't upload them in order.  Isn't it a simple fix to allow album editing from the browser site??

  • Same here. I select my photos in chronological order, and they initially upload in that order but randomly rearrange themselves when I view them later. This is on the iOS app.

Even if they end up getting uploaded at random (due to parallel networking requests, etc.) can there not be an option to always display them in chronological order when viewed?

  • Same problem here. Upload to start with is in the correct but then when you add comments it scrambles the order into something seemingly random. It's not logical (like if all the ones I add comments get put to the end I could understand, if that counted as a "last modified" action or something)- but I get a completely random order that's just a jumble of ones i've put comments on and ones I haven't, clearly something is going wrong in the backend somewhere as I cannot see any logical explanation for why its doing what it's doing. it's a real mess, fix it please.

  • Ditto here - can't there at least be a button or order by time taken???

  • ..Yep same here - just done a 32mile run over 12,000ft of climbing and Strava re-orders the photos after my initial sequential selection in time order!! ..so now the narrative is lost! I even deleted and tried again - very frustrating.

  • Seems so basic…and yet 3 years of complaints! Please attempt to explain why this is so difficult. Thanks.

  • I have the same complaint. Strava randomly reorders photos every time. Photos are a very popular feature of Strava, particularly for addicts like me doe whom it’s our main social media app. Reading this this thread this has apparently been a problem for three years. When you do a major activity, you want the photos in chronological order and in particular the post-activity celebratory meal photo should be at the end 😁
If someone from Strava is reading this it would be nice to know if this bug is scheduled to be addressed.

  • In the iOS app, it looks like it's ordered, as you tap each photo, it gives it a number. Perfect. Only problem is that order is completely ignored, and is different between the phone app and the website.

    It's the usual Strava frustration:

    * Notice something frustrating
    * Search the web for a fix
    * Find a message on here from years ago asking for exactly the fix you're searching for
    * Immediate response from Strava, also from years ago.
    * See nothing else since then except folks saying "it's been a couple years, how about an update?"

    At least it's consistent.

edit: awesome to be given the formatting tools in these comments, only to have the formatting completely ignored when it's posted. Once again, high points for consistency.

  • What's wrong with Strava? This should be a damn simple thing to fix. At least order the photos by timestamp by default! I've been having so many frustrations with Strava lately that I'm seriously considering options.

  • Seriously. I'm an iOS developer and can look into implementing photos ordering for you if you hire me. A default ordering of timestamp (earliest first) - like it used to be before it was broken - would be best for most rides.
