Apple Watch app asks me to Log In

After the recent update, my app on my apple watch will not start or change back to the shoe to run. I get an error message that says Check Strava on iPhone for prompts and there is none and be sure Bluetooth is enabled in settings which it is. This is very frustrating I used to love this app till now.

  • Purchased a new iPhone XS, - as per this thread Strava not working on Apple Watch3, tried everything and nothing worked, until i tried Tasman's suggestion.  This also worked for me & now Strava is active again on my watch:

    WHAT WORKED:

    1. Watch app in iPhone > tap Apple Watch picture at top, e.g "Lucy's Apple Watch" > tap "I" symbol (information) > Un-pair Apple Watch.
    2. Wait (unpairing takes quite awhile).
    3. Setup watch from new.
    4. Wait (setting up the watch takes quite awhile too).
    5. Strava happy again on the watch.

  • just had to put my two cents in on this.  I was faced with the same issue, but more specifically, Strava was behaving fine on my new iPhone XR, but the watch was saying I had not yet logged into Strava on my phone, so apple watch was paralyzed.  The remedy below is a pain, but it worked.

  • this remains a problem. every time I get a new phone or watch, I have to go through a series of manual uninstalls/re-installs and watch/phone restarts... total pain.

  • Thanks Kevin Gillinsky -- uninstalling everything, unpairing the watch, and reinstalling the watch from scratch is the only thing that worked for me. Total time wasted 2.5+ hours, and I've lost all my watch customization - but I can finally go for a run :-) Wish it felt like Strava cared more about the iOS app.

  • I have the same problem.

    • I am on  WatchOS 6 Beta 2, and iOS 13 Beta 2.
    • iPhone XS, and Apple Watch 4.

Strava was working fine on Beta 1, but after the Beta 2 update I get the "log in on your phone" message on my apple.
Tried already uninstall everything and other tips on this topic. Please help.

  • Same here. I’ve deleted and reinstalled apps on phone and watch, can’t stop the problem. I’d be less annoyed if I weren’t paying for subscription.

  • Hello at STRAVA is anyone home?????

So I was using the Strava app on my Apple Watch OK up until I upgraded my iPhone to the XR this week and now the Strava app only comes up with the login warning. I've already spent an 1hr uninstalling, reinstalling and unpairing etc etc. I've given up on it and switched back to MapMyRun so much better to.

  • I struggled for hours over a few days w/getting Strava to stop giving above message on my Apple Watch 3 after I switched from iPhone 5s to iPhone 6. I about gave up the watch after the guy at the Genius Bar was stumped and suggested waiting for the next round of updates.

I have no logic to why this worked but I thought I’d share jic useful.

Siri on the watch would not set a timer. It’d just get stuck on I’ll tap you when I’m ready screen. I had to turn Siri setting off on both devices, turn them off, restart & turn them back on. The phone had me go through the voice commands for Siri again and after that, the timer issue resolved.

And the Strava message saying I needed to log in to Strava on my iPhone finally went away and Strava now works on the watch.

Not the most logical fix but hey, whatever works is good with me.

  • Same problem as picture above here as well.  It just started happening, have to open/close the app on the phone multiple time before the watch strava app will come up.  Next day, same issue all over again...

  • Yes, my watch is up to date. FInd someone to look at this who is actually interested in providing help rather than using a canned, useless response.

  • Guys, this is an issue at YOUR end now, the updated app works even on the yet to be released Watch6 and iOS13 and 13.1.

I recommend rebooting phone and watch and checking your internet connectivity. Removing and reinstalling the app on phone and watch may also help.

  • My watch (Apple watch series 3) and my iPhone are up to date. App was working very well previously and this issue has been started since last week on my watch. I have done all steps you have mentioned as solution and still facing same issue.

  • This is getting really frustrating. Everytime I open the watch app it tells me to log in. Sort it, Strava.

  • I've been getting the "log in on iPhone" prompt every time I open the Strava app for about 1 week. I'm using iPhone 7 Plus and Watch Series 4 (latest software and apps on both).

    What hasn't fixed this problem:

    • Following the instruction (i.e., Logging in to Strava on iPhone)
    • Turning Siri off on both devices and then back on on both devices (per Krista above)

    What works temporarily:

    • Uninstalling and reinstalling Strava on iPhone (and Watch) and then setting up Watch in Strava app (on iPhone).
    • This only works for one exercise.
    • I've had to do this every time I exercise.

I have no such issues with other 3rd party Watch apps. So there is clearly a problem that Strava has yet to solve.

  • Yup - I've been having this for the last few days after a long time with no issues at all.  Response from Strava Support was something about ANT+ Sensors - that's an entirely different thing isn't it?

  • Been having same issue for past week but I luckily only get the 'log in' screen for a couple of seconds on the watch then it connects properly. I suspect an issue with the Strava app not the watch/app.

  • I agree, it seems like the phone app that has the issue.  I force quit the Strava phone app several times and the watch finally connects/logs in.  Next day it does the same thing.  Watch and Phone have both been cycled several times, running the latest updates across the board.  The issue started occurring within the last week.

  • Partner has same issue but w/5SE. If he starts app on phone the watch will finally connect/log in after app starts, but that is the best he can get so far.

  • Like I posted earlier in this thread, this is at the user end not the Strava end, no issues with even Watch6 and iOS13.1, that are the latest beta's.

  • +1

it's been happening for a week or so at this point. i'm used to checking if it's working before i leave my place, so i did that today too. did the reinstall routine, setup, etc. and it was working. by the time i got to the track (phone left at my place), it was asking me to login again... sick of this

the fact that this has been happening on and off for some people since 2016 worries me

  • Been experiencing this for a week now, me and my wife. Reinstalling the app on the phone works for one exercise, then back to “log into phone” error. One Apple phone with iOS 12 on an Apple Watch s3, the other with beta 13.1 iOS and Apple Watch S2. What gives?

edit: both using the current strava version as well 116.0.0
