Gear Management - Allow to return retired component

It is really nice to have ability to track bike milage, and especially to track component milage separately for each component.

But people sometimes change components back and forth.

I have two front wheels - one for wet roads, another one for dry hardpack (different tyres). I change them back and force, depending on whether it rained or trail I am planning to ride.

I also have stock wheels that I use during pre- and post- season (when I ride on asphalt rather then in the woods).

Currently "retiring" a component means retiring forever. o I retire that wheels in beginning of summer and have to register again in autumn and then sum up their milage (and make that for 2 rotors, 2 wheels, 2 tyres, chain and casette). Really crazy.
Please allow to "un-retire" a component on a specific date - that will make things a lot easier.

And one more thing that is easy to implement

Add "regular service" as a component type- that will allow to track how long has passed after you serviced hubs, fork, etc.
It would be great to have individual service interval (like request below), but adding a "Regular Service" component is 3-minute deal I think and can be done easily. That will solve the issue in the following post
https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/210510168-Gear-Management-Usage-Interval-Notifications

PS, un-retiring will really help, today the great service that is differentiator is not fully useable because of that

  • And one more thing. Please add hours in use, not only distanse for each component.

For example sometimes they recommend to service forks based on HRS, not kms

  • Totally agree,
Use STRAVA in a few months,
I also have the same problems,
I have several sets of pedals and the seat can be replaced,
There are a lot of riders with different wheel sets used interchangeably,
Currently only the parts obsolete design is obviously not realistic,

We are hoping to strengthen the management of the parts,
Rather than simply increase and void.

  • I have summer and winter tires for my bike and would love a way to suspend and then bring back gear rather than having to permanently retire.  I want to be able to track total mileage on the seasonal gear.

  • I totally support this idea. I change components back and forth to. PLEASE ADD THIS!!

  • Totally agree too. This feature is almost unusable if the component can not be un-retired. This concerns lots of components especially wheels, tires, cassette.

It is available for running shoes, so why not for bike components?

  • Yes to this idea!  I love keeping track of the mileage I get on tires, but I just rode on the trainer and now miles are logged on my rear that isn't getting any.  Allowing un-retiring or just swapping out of components like wheels and tires would be GREAT!

  • I thought once you retire a bike, you can still see it. I didn't think it would gone forever, so yea maybe the option of being able to bring it back or at least be able to see it would be helpful. It seems like if you retire gear, you should still be able to see it, you just wont have the option to use it. It seems if you delete your previous bike then that would mean it is gone for good. I wanted to look again to see my total miles on the bike but I guess that will tell me in my "all time" distance section on my profile. Does anyone know if they is a way to restore retired gear, or is Strava not yet capable of this? Thank you

  • any news on this? I am also facing the same issue with my tires, use a pair for wet conditions, another for dry conditions

  • Well this sucks, just found out the hard way I can't bring a component back from retirement! Why not?!?!? I change wheels I change my shoes! Different weather =different shoe. Not being able to bring back a retired part misses the whole point of being able to track mileage on different components. Can this please be resolved?

  • Totally agree. I'd like to know how long my wheels tires last and I often change wheels and tires between seasons. This should be quite easy to implement. Please add this!

  • Hi,

If you need to have a better control over bikes and components usage, you might want to have a look at mainTrack.app.

It’s a free mobile app that you help you to stay on top of your gear’s usage in mileage, hours and number of activities. You can also create a maintenance plan and keep a service log, so that you know when you last serviced your bikes and components and how long they last.

  • Bump. Have you stopped developing the app Strava?

  • And when retiring component, insert date when retired.

Example I did change chains month ago, and when retiring it marks it retired today. Difference in usage is over 1000km.

  • Last week, I put some gravel tires on for the D2R2 160km route and have just today switched back to my road 28's. I am quite certain I'm not the only person doing this regularly as gravel riding becomes more and more popular. Please add the ability to un-retire components, especially tires!

  • Totally agree. Kind of headache when switching around different wheelset depends on the ride now. No way to overcome this at the moment.

  • Still no ability to “un-retire” bikes??

  • You can unretire shoes, not sure about bikes.
Still no way to unretire components

  • Would love that feature, too. Im using spike tires in the winter, the milage would be great to track rather than having them in log multiple times.

  • Why can't add a new frame after retairing/deleting the previous one? There is no frame to choose from in the list.
