Route Builder Error

Hi There

I'm getting the error "Sorry, there was an error, please try plotting the point again." whenever I try to add a point on the map in the route builder.

I am on a Mac, and have tried both Safari and Chrome browser - same result. There have been no such issue for me in the past.

  • Thanks Andy, I’ll move over to www.komoot.com.

The problem has been going on for well over a year now, so it seems it’s never going to be resolved, unfortunately.

  • Looks like Komoot lets you plan routes via their app too, unlike Strava.

There’s a fair amount of catching up that needs to be done by Strava on this front.

  • John, I felt the same way - strava seems to be concentrating on the social feed rather than going riding - i really like the ability to choose what type of riding as well, road, cycle or gravel - I have found some really good routes near home that strava never found

    Dropping the ball ?

  • Hello, I'm getting the same error regularly when switching between auto and manual modes. There are lots of paths missing from the area. It's pointless using a route builder.

Sorry, there was an error, please try plotting the point again. - Chrome Laptop

  • The problem still exists.  I wonder if Strava is really looking into it.

  • Still not working. Strava support useless as usual.

  • Any official updates? I too get this error, and can't seem to figure out when exactly (always with long routes, but not every time). I also can't seem to drag long routes to adjust them.

  • This is also happening for me, with routes over about 60 miles.  I'm going to give this a week or two, but I need get started on some long summer route maps, so if this doesn't get fixed, I also need to find a new way to do this.  Google bicycle routes are terrible, so that isn't an option.

  • To be honest check out www.komoot.com - mapping is excellent and you can actually do long routes !

Not sure what strava is up to these days but they seem to be focusing on social rather than the core mapping-shame really.

  • I reported this 3 years ago and gave up on it a while ago in favour of Komoot, which also works as an app on your phone, so is better than Strava, even if they were to fix this feature.

My impression is that Strava are simply too embarrassed to simply say they don't know how to optimise the code to fix it.

You can get Komoot here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.komoot.android

  • I signed up for Komoot the other day, imported my gpx files perfectly.

I think the strava dev team have given up fixing or releasing new features.

  • I had issues with the route builder trying to set my first point when I was zoomed in close to get the point at exactly the right spot. I zoomed out until I could see most of my state, clicked and made a waypoint, then zoomed in and moved the waypoint to where I wanted it and things started working for me.

  • I've been trying to create a route for a few weeks now and all I see is a blank space where the map should be, but by these comments Strava doesn't give two poops about it, yet they keep asking for a subscription.

They still want to be another social platform, but refuse to provide the services ppl are asking for. This is very disappointing considering how much I used to like Strava.

  • I still get the "can't plot route point" error. Does Strava ever read, respond or act on any of this? It's useless to me as it is.

  • Error stil not fixed, however seems to be location dependend and date/time dependend. Was able to build a route Sunday in San Francisco, but do get errors again today :-( #Weird
