  • Why would I possibly give a shit about looking at the app half way through a ride??? Typically I finish the ride, upload from my Garmin then sit on my couch to check the app, maybe add a pic. Or sit at my desk at work.

If I still don't get along with this nasty vanilla mess 1 week from now I'm cancelling my premium membership.

However much you paid developers to come up with this, you got it wrong.

  • New Coke v original? Why change something so good? Because you feel like you have to? I've cancelled my premium subscription today. Might subscribe again if you listen to your customers.

  • This is a familiar story, it's just like the change to activity names that nobody liked...

Strava: "We value your input! What do you think?"

    Customers: "We don't like it."

Strava: "Great! Here's another copy/paste of the default blurb about passing it to the team!"

    (Nothing at all ensues)

  • "Sometime in the future, we would like to consider bringing the black background back" Well, I have now cancelled my premium subscription and at some time in the future, I may consider signing up again if the app returnes to the black format.

I call total BS on "carefully researched". Show us the research. Not one of the 30-40 people I run and ride with think this is a good thing. "A common visual theme across smartphone and PC" is whiteboard marketing department BS with no regard to actual end user experience.

  • As many other users, I really don't like the white color scheme.

It gives a cheap look to the app. It's more difficult to see the separations in the feed and it's an eye killer.

Make an option so users can switch between light / dark scheme.

    Thank you

  • Hate it. Deleting. This is not about an adjustment period. I can no longer read it without reading glasses. Clearly everyone who "carefully researched" this design was under the age of 40. At least I didn't waste my money on premium. This app is completely useless. Well done Strava.

  • Unfortunately this will be my last post before cancelling my premium membership and deleting the app. Elle I'm really sorry that no one at Strava seems to want to listen to real life feedback from actual users of your product. Having been in the IT industry for 20+ years I am very well aware (as your development team should be) what UX is (User Experience). I'm also very well aware of best practice on accessibility for sites and apps something which the team at Strava either ate not aware of or simply don't care about. There is NO sensible reason for having a unified interface across PC and mobile. They are different devices and have different uses, user journeys and therefore require a different UI. Best practice also dictates use of fonts and colors. Despite your comments to the contrary you simply cannot have considered these points at all in making the changes you have. If you'd like done free consultancy around this before myself (and no doubt thousands of others) cancel our memberships please let me know. Regards, Lee

  • Having now waited for the "adjustment period" to pass. I can say I still don't like the change.

For those of you considering downgrading from premium I can assure you, having already done so, you don't miss any of the features.

  • Lee articulated this really well. Mobile and desktop are different contexts and Strava did not unify the interfaces, they just made the app white. My premium membership just expired and I chose not to renew it yet. I feel confident the developers will course correct and I will be happy to sign back up when they do.

  • New white background is utterly horrible. Please let me choose to revert to the awesome dark background.

white is more difficult to read, drains battery and is ugly. Oh almost forgot, it is also WHITE!

Please don't kill good app by changing the background to horrible white colour, or at least give me the dark background option.

  • Please con back to black on mobile app, white is terrible 😱😱😱 and i cannot understand so much than the previous version. Or give the possibility to user to decide! I want to downgrade the app 😭😭😭

  • I just updated the app... Already regretting it. Can't stand the white theme. Wherever I can I choose dark themes. And to not have that option to choose. A huge mistake. Hoping that you include dark theme as an option sooner rather than later.

  • I was proud of my Strava app and shared it with new or existing cyclists .The enthusiasm is gone with the new white "wash".  If anyone has read Malcolm Gladwell "the tipping point" in the development team they should do so. A lot of cyclist never interact on Strava forums. They just started swopping to the Garrmin app. The problem is the same with myself, we keep both apps with the wish that Strava will revert back to the old colour schem. Once everyone is accustomed to the Garmin app you might never see these cyclist again,The interaction on the Garmin app has picked up tremendously since we got "white washed". Someone paid a design team a lot of money for a new design , now its not so easy to say we made a mistake and paid for something waisting our money. Of the hundreds o f cyclist in the Durbanville, Cape Town area we are still unable to find anyone who likes the new "white wash""

  • A month on & the views of the customers are pretty overwhelming. staggering how Strava are just ignoring so many peoples views. I have cancelled my premium subscription, I refuse to pay money to a company that treats its customers so poorly. Hopefully you see sense & reverse this colour scheme change  quite soon.

  • The white theme is horrible. There's pages of negative comments and yet you haven't changed it or at least offered both colour schemes as an option. Good way to loose users/customers...

  • I find with the white background it is very difficult to read considering the print is grey and small. Also the white doesn't contrast well with the maps. It does well with pictures, but not with Maps since most of these are white as well. Please bring black back! Or at least that we can have the option of white or black.

Thank you. I otherwise think Strava is great.

  • Plus - I have read all the 80 comments and only one person liked the white (and he got -9 dislikes for this comment). I am not one to complain at all. And it is not an aesthetic thing. The white hurts the eyes as many say and I often have to squint to read. I don't enjoy reading the other riders posts as much either because of this. Please listen to your customers and go back to black or have a option to choose color background. Thanks

  • Don't like it. The font does not conform to the iOS accessibility settings (bold font option). The contrast is way too low to read comfortably. The app is not a website so does not need to look like one, they are two different things. Bring back the dark version. Please!

  • I am totally not a fan of the new white theme and loading is much much slower than before. Is there a method I can go back to use the dark theme version?

    Thanks

August 15, 2016 - The day Strava launched Version 5.0.0 (which changed the "dark" theme to the "White!" theme) - is one of the saddest days in cycling history.

Strava is 100% misguided in its efforts. Strava is self-admittedly moving in a "trendy" direction set by Apple and it's absolutely deplorable... "Over the years we’ve transitioned from a skeuomorphic design - with an interface and buttons that mimic real-world objects - to a sleek digital look. This has followed the evolution of Apple’s iOS interface. And our new lighter app is another step towards a Strava for iOS that looks and feels like the iPhone’s native apps."

The new "White!" theme is the most sterile, unimaginative, elementary app interface I have EVER seen. It is NOT "easier on your eyes", it is in fact FAR MORE STRENUOUS on the eyes - due to a lack of one simple element - CONTRAST. Strava, instead of changing an interface that wasn't broken simply for the sake of changing and copying Apple's latest designs, why don't you focus on INNOVATION. You have always been MONTHS behind the curve on releasing highly requested iOs App features such as photo uploads, club leaderboards, and comments, just to mention a few.

Strava - Loyal Strava Premium members have spoken here on this forum - letting you know just how TERRIBLE the new interface is. You need to listen to them!

  • I know the comments have slowed down on this, but just so you know, the white background is not getting better with ongoing use. It's too bright and less clear than previous versions, and I'm spending less time on the app than before because of this. Hopefully there'll be a way to turn it off soon?

  • It looks terrible - it is even putting me off using it. So many other things to fix first, and you choose the colour? Stupid.
