Strava's new white color theme - Tell us what you think

What's new in Version 5.0.0 on Strava for iOS:

Strava has a new color theme that's easier to read, especially in bright sunlight. We're excited for you to give it a try and leave your feedback for us.

  • I enjoy the user experience. It's easy to navigate and find what I'm looking for. Kudos to the UX team. However, I agree with what's been said above regarding the dark vs light color scheme. The dark scheme was much better on the eyes for me. It also gave the APP a design gravitas it no longer has. IMO, dark theme was far better overall. Otherwise, love the app. If you do decide to switch it back OR let us choose, we'd all LOVE that.

  • 99% of the community agrees that black theme was better, Strava team won'nt even dare to answer. GJ with the support.

  • It's too bad. I started using Garmin Connect. Love it and yes, it's got a dark interface. C'mon Strava.

  • I agree with all the comments above. The dark scheme was much better on the eyes and worked better in the dark.

  • It's horrible. I've just logged back into strava after not using it for a while. I stopped using it because I wasn't cycling so much and goth bit sick of fitness apps, but also you kept bugging me about going premium, offering a thirty day free trial, which I could only have if I entered payment details, which is something that reallly irritates me. If you want to offer a free trial, just give the bloody free trial, if I like it, then I'll enter my payment details. Anyway, this is about the white theme.
After reinstalling the app & logging in again, I see it's now a horrible, blinding white colour, with no option to have the dark theme. Why? What possible logic is there in not having an option for dark theme, it's not a major job to allow people to switch between light and dark. The comment here from the strava representative is extra irritating. It's not a "project" to just put the option of a dark theme back in the app. Just do it for goodness sake.

  • Prefer black BY FAR. It saves battery by a huge amount with OLED displays. I can't believe you haven't offered this.looking for a workaround as this white screen is completely unacceptable.

  • Hey Rob, If you updated the app from your phone, you may be able to just delete it, then add the 'old' version back via iTunes to get the dark theme back, thats what I've done as i don't care for any of their 'upgrades' and was really disappointed with the white theme - it seems most people are, but Strava don't seem to care.

I'm sure some measurable data tells them the new white theme is more popular, especially to justify a no doubt huge budget spent on removing all the style elements that many Apps have aimed to copy until now.

Any day now a new app will come along, and Strava will be the 'MySpace' of tracker apps. I'd gamble that App will have a strong focus on what users want, not on what future investors (Apple) might like to see in a App to buyout.

  • At the moment they know we're tied to them via things like being able to compare our performance with others and moving apps would hurt this big feature but if a solution to that comes along then we will really see what everyone thinks of the Strava approach

  • Maybe if the user can have a variety of color to choose depending on their choice, time of day or preference, would be great.

  • I’m about to get an iPhone X and hoped/expected Apple’s embrace of OLED screens (‘finally’) would be the catalyst for Strava to introduce a more energy efficient, easier to read dark theme option.

    Come on!

  • "Strava has a new color theme that's easier to read, especially in bright sunlight"... 100% NOT TRUE. Strava's failure to resolve this matter given the OVERWHELMING number of NEGATIVE comments here is DEPLORABLE!

  • Strange that Strava cannot offer the option of a black theme. Should be pretty easy to do and they haven't sorted this since August 2016.

The best alternative is to select "smart invert" of colours on your iPhone. Doesn't offer a true black theme experience with some strange hues coming through but this is the best we can get considering Strava seems to be bent on continuing to justify an 'update' it clearly knows is unpopular with its user base.

Not sure if Android has similar options.
