Apple watch series 3 update now displays average heart rate

Hi I need help/ or a solution for this problem,

Since the new update for Apple watch the heart rate that is displayed on my apple watch is an average heart rate.
This seriously affects my training program since I cannot do intervals on my heart rate because I do not know my current heart rate. I can only see the average heart rate.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Hope to hear it.

Kind regard,

Jeroen

  • I have this same problem and I am also heart rate training, so its a nightmare.

I use an external chest strap and thought that may be the problem.

But I have since worked out my data is recording properly in the Health App and when my activity is uploaded to Strava the heart rate data is accurate, meaning the straps ok.

Have you had any solution to this??

  • I don't think it's only the series 3. This has happened to my Series 2 Apple Watch. I think it's a change with the latest version. Can you please change it back as Avg Heart Rate is useless while working out.

Or at least give us an option to choose.

  • Hi - I have the same problem on Apple Watch Series 3 after the latest update.  I'm using the Apple Watch App with a bluetooth HRM and at first I thought it was not connecting with the app with the watch mounted to my bike.  However, I see complete HR data with Zones after I upload a workout (so data is being collected ok) but the display is showing only average heart rate while I'm recording.  It would be nice to see current effort reflected on the display during a workout (the way it was before the update).  Is there a way to change this is settings?

Please let me know if there is a solution for this.

    Thanks!

  • Sorry, I don't have a solution, but +1 for this issue.  Strava: Please bring back current/instantaneous heart rate on the Apple Watch display.  Average heart rate isn't really helpful at all in the middle of a ride/run.  If I'm pushing hard and pedaling up a hill, who cares that my heart rate for the last 50 minutes is averaging 145 bpm.  It always averages 145 on a ride.  I know its going to average 145 before I even get on the bike.  Current implementation is pretty much a useless waste of screen space.

  • I noticed the same thing today.  The average heart rate display on the watch is useless during a run.  It would be nice to be able to toggle between average heart rate and current heart rate....similar to how you can toggle between lap pace and average pace.

  • I have the same problem for a few weeks.

I'm a premium member so no reason for that.

  • Have the same issues. Reinstall of both Watch and iPhone app didn't solve it for me.

  • It’s been 3 months and I still have this issue...just average heart rate using the Apple Watch 3 HR. Is there an option to change to real time? I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling and denying Health access, then approving. What is the latest? This is a useless feature.
