HR Data for Swim Activities

Upload HR data for swim activities if the device records that data. Just purchased a Garmin Swim HRM and swim activities are sent to Garmin Connect with HR data. Dont see why it's so difficult to accept this on Strava swim activities.

For Strava swim activities it's very misleading when the HR tab is selected and the message implies that a HR monitor needs to be purchased. This was the main reason I purchased a HR monitor for swimming.

  • And their new take on fitness and freshness is very vauge. It talks about all activities HR being taken and used, implying that swimming is included.

Just got the same HRM Swim from Garmin and a bit disappointed to not get the data in STRAVA. Think I will just go back to Garmin connect for most stuff. But that isnt great either.

  • Would like swim HR too, It's logged by my Garmin, but Strava does not display the data, or show laps when I do 10 length laps etc. Disappointing as then need to look at swimming in Garmin Connect.

  • I agree with all the above comments.
I’m not sure why Strava doesn’t show all the data that is clearly recorded.
Surely it can’t be that hard to show the lap times and HR data for swims?

  • Would also like to have my data from the HRM (I have a Fenix 5 and HRM Tri) uploaded and sync automatically to Strava. Please make this a priority!

  • Strava support team, please address this issue.  It's insulting that you are advertising Wahoo heart rate monitors (obviously sponsored) to general and summit members who pay a premium to access more granular levels of data analysis.

I have a Garmin heart rate monitor to record my heart rate specifically whilst swimming - it's this data that is most relevant to me and yet you do not support the data feed from Garmin. Furthermore, the Wahoo heart rate monitors that you are promoting are 'water resistant' not waterproof. This is yet another example of how you fail swimmers.  There are no swim challenges, no access to heart rate feeds and no response to these forum requests.

Please consider addressing this bias as a priority.

  • Not relevant to this thread, but even if the Wahoo was waterproof it would not give you HR in the water as you need a swim specific HR strap like the Garmin that saves the data on the strap and uploads it once exercise is complete

  • This is relevant to this thread, I have the blue Garmin HR strap specifically to record HR data while I swim. Strava doesn’t offer the functionality to display that data. Regardless of what HR strap one uses, the data is not interpreted and this thread is an appeal to strava to focus on that development. It is a bit insulting that in place of the HR activity data display for swim activities, is a suggestion placed by Strava to purchase a HR strap and that links to a Wahoo advert for ‘water resistant’ HR straps (non-swim specific). That tells me that Strava are looking after their advertisers and not their althletes.

  • Still an issue...please fix! I will not be renewing Summit if my swim workouts aren’t included in relative effort. I know it’s being shown for all workouts, but please remove “get a monitor” blurb from swim workouts until there is a way to upload HRM data.

  • I see avg HR on my swims, which seems like progress. Please get us the analysis and relative effort. It’s almost Triathlon season...need to make it happen.

  • Please fix asap. You are right out lying in your app implying that buying a hrm would help.

  • Agreed....I’ve just purchased a Garmin Swim HRM to specifically record my HRM data onto Strava, not realising it doesn’t do it! If Strava wants to be taken seriously (I pay for the privilege like many others) then they need to rectify this. And agreed also about the Wahoo sponsorship by Strava...pretty poor Strava. Please get this sorted for serious athletes who want to record more than just cycling (which I do) and running...

  • Bought garmin HRM swim purely to add to my weekly effort/suffer score, as i was doing all these swims and they weren't counting... and now they still aren't!

A LOT of triathletes use strava and the fact that they need to go to garmin to get laps/HR data??

Just add it in, its been over 3 years

  • As with many posters here, I want swim HR data on Strava. I've just bought a HRM-swim after my HRM-run failed after using it for a pool based triathlon. Please add the swim HR facility, I want the swim to be included in fitness and freshness - really important and there are a lot of us triathletes out there!

  • This is seriously beyond me! I contacted strava support about this initially and was advised that hr data had been disabled for pool swims... why?!! Also the fact that they link you to buy a hrm in the suffer score section. When i asked why of course i got no response whatsoever. As is the norm from strava and i was told that my feedback would be passed on, but after looking at a few forum posts about the same thing dating back to 2015 it doesn’t look like strava could care less about this issue.

  • I have stopped paying for my summit membership, as Strava not addressing these issues is insulting.  If you are totally about the data, Garmin gives far more accurate analysis in their app.  Strava is just about the Kudos it seems and sadly, to end the era of "if it's not on Strava, it didn't happen..."  it did actually happen and it's all in the Garmin app with very precise heart rate graphs as proof instead of an advert.

  • Found this thread as I've injured my Achilles and have to resort to aqua jogging until it heals.  Was looking for how strava would convert my heart rate to an aqua heart rate and give me a true measure of effort.  After reading the above I realize I have no chance if they can't even handle swimming...  That said, would like to at least log the request for better data for aqua jogging.  Pretty sure this won't be my last running injury that will force me into the pool and would be great if the aqua runs were calculated correctly.

  • Wow, I thought this would be in the app too.

Was on the verge of buying a Wahoo Tickr X, but might have to skip that.
And possibly rethink what app I use to track my exercise.

  • I wear a garmin connected heart rate monitor and very frustrated to see this data not pull through on Strava. When will this be fixed please. Also when will this data pull through to relative effort, I use this to monitor my increases and efforts and swimming is necessary as a triathlete. Please fix this. Thanks.

  • FIXED _ I have same issue using Garmin watch for swimming with the Garmin swimming HRM. The activity does transfer directly to Strava but without heart rate data. But --- if I then delete the swim from Strava, go to Garmin Connect and download the TCX file and then upload TCX file to Strava, I then have heart rate and relative effort. I have  no idea why I have to go through this but it does solve the problem. https://www.strava.com/activities/2350968440

  • How weird that reuploading fixes it!! Just tried it and worked for me as well but it also no longer separates moving time and overall time so my pace/100m is completely out, but the relative effort is useful. Thanks Richard.
