Power Meter Support for Running

Stava needs to include power meter  metric for runners.  Many of us use Stryd, or similar devices.  Power is recognized by many as a key component in training.   We've been asking for this for years...  please please add this !!

  • This should be easy to implement as already runs done with power show up with their power data in Fitness and Freshness, and downloading the GPX file for each run shows all power data is there. Also Stavix shows power data within the Strava web page.
It is missing on the App though.

  • I just went for a run and power data is showing! Is this a fluke or did our wishes come true?
Used Stryd app to track run.

  • Greg Sheehan,

Please can you let us know where are you seeing this - on mobile, in your web browser etc.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Adam,

It seems to only show power when I view my activity via the Android Mobile App. It looks like it still has some bugs as you notice the energy output and average power fields are not populated. Hopefully future Strava enhancements will be able to pull the hidden data out of the previously uploaded files so we can view our historic runs.

  • did you link your stryd app data to your strava?  how did you get this?  I'm not showing any power on my runs this weekend.

  • Ricardo,

Yes, I have Stryd power center automatically exporting to Strava. I went to "settings" at the top of the power center then along the left menu there is a "Connect sync data" icon where you can choose Stryd to import/export. Then I just went for a run using the Record function within the Stryd application.

I can only see the power data on my Strava app. Running android OS. Strava version 66.0.3 with a premium "summit" account.

  • I think its stravas own calculations and not related to stryd. I read somewhere they totally dropped stryd data support. I have no idea why but perhaps compete instead of cooperate is their way of handling things? Very sad if so. More and more businesses see the value of cooperation instead of competition nowadays.

Im happy with stryds powercenter where you see your power over the run anyway and can do most fun stuff.

  • I import .tcx file from Power2Run App into Strava and Training Peaks, and while TP will recognize the power data as a run, you must change the "sport" from a run to a ride for Strava to show the power data. Strava then shows speed rather than pace data for the "ride". Obviously, this is a poor work around, and therefore I just analyze use Training Peaks to analyze power. The data is there, Strava just needs to incorporate for a run.

  • If I do a Zwift treadmill run via Stryd connected to my iPhone I get power data in Strava but not when I run outside with Stryd connected to my Garmin Fenix 5+. So it seems to be showing for "Virtual Run" but not "Run" sports.

  • @Ricardo

I've recognized exactly the same problem. I have Stryd Powercenter directly syncing to Strava. I can see the powermeter metric on my mobile app (iOS) but not on the web version of Strava.

I really hope this gets fixed soon, as I would expect the web version as the "more detailed" one for analysis.

  • Agree. I was able to sync the power enter to my Strava and get power meter data that way, but only if I use the stryd app to record my runs. The problem with the stryd app is no HR data.

Purchased a Garmin watch that is stryd compatible and that gathers both running power and HR data. Seems to work great,I get all the data into my Garmin connect.

When it syncs up to Strava, none of the power data comes through.

At this point, I question why I even use Strava anymore. About the only feature I like is the beacon so my wife can keep an eye one as I commute back home. Otherwise, I am close to pulling the plug.

  • I too would like to see Strava display the powermeter data from Stryd. I've been using Strava for the past 6 years and need this too.

  • I agree with all the comments. Please add power data support for Gamin connect sync to Strava when logging runs using Stryd+Fenix watch. Maybe this is a Garmin connect issue?

  • So, update. I purchased an ANT+ stick and a USB-C to USB-A converter to capture heart rate data from a strap and maybe off my watch on occasion using my first gen Google Pixel.

As I was testing the HR strap, it actually detected my Stryd pod. Not only that, it detected Watt and cadence data as well, as you can see with the sync-screen screen shot. I'll also post a pic of the ant± stick.

Problem is, once in an activity, I can't get it to do anything with the data on a run. If I sync as a stride pod, it captures cadence, no watts, and causes a sync error for the activity. If I capture it as a bike power meter, it doesn't capture power on a run, but it does sync.

What this tells me is that Strava hasn't done anything to handle power data in runs at all. I'm able to get paper data only if I record my run off the stryd app and sync it to Strava, but otherwise no other way of recording or syncing a run also captures running Watts.

I cancelled my Summit subscription this week. I'm not paying extra for data I can't analyze. Or rather data I can analyze on Garmin connect for free.

  • I get Stryd power in Strava if I use the Stryd app on my Apple Watch series 4 but not when I use my Garmin Forerunner 645M with Stryd IQ. Seems odd that Strava would ignore the data when Garmin records it.

  • I use the Stryd app on my Apple Watch, but I only get Stryd Power if I change the workout to cycling, are you getting it as a run?

  • Please add support to pull Stryd power recorded in Garmin device. TrainingPeaks has worked it out so shouldn't be hard for Strava to do similar

  • I have ordered the new Stryd sensor and hope to receive it in August. If it is true that Strava doesnt support the import of data from Stryd in a proper way I will cancel my subscription as well. Whats the point of paying extra money if they dont support 3rd party hardware/data. Seems to be nicely ignored by Strava since some users are asking for that since a long time. Im wondering if anybody from Strava reads this thread at all.

  • This is exactly what i dropped my subscription to Strava. I've been training with power for the last few months and the fact that Strava does not support it to do their relative effort calculations, show your zones and CP % is no go for me. Now using Golden Cheetah. More work for me but I get what I need

  • Yep. I dropped my membership too.  I've been a member for a few years and got nothing back.  I get emails from Strava staff asking me to give them more detail, which I do.. and then nothing.  Any recommendations for alternative providers?

  • I've also canceled my subscription to Strava a few weeks ago. The main reason is the ongoing refusal of Strava to include new functions like e.g. powermeter metrics for running. Or take the route planner, it is in beta status since ages. I do road cycling and running and I am deeply impressed by the way how Stryd helped me to improve and optimize my running training. I use TrainingPeaks now as a platform, Stryd is perfectly integrated and you can use free power based training plans made by Stryd. You can even load the planned workouts to your Stryd app on the AppleWatch and it gives you permanent guidance during your workout, so that you keep your planned power zones. A nice side effect, I don't have to hassle about all those fake KOMs anymore...
