Intervals

The possibility to create workouts with intervals and then be able to run, ride or swim them with audio cues/vibration for time/pace/distance would be really useful. How about integrating it with your training plans? Go on, you know it makes sense for the best fitness app to have this...

  • I second that. For serious training intervals are a must. Please add that.

  • YES! I'm converting over to Strava from Runkeeper and I was puzzled by the lack of intervals and other in-app training tools. Lots of great things in Strava but this part of it could really benefit from improvement.

  • I second that. I am NOT going from Runkeeper because of this!

  • Third. Intervals should be core functionality.

  • I fourth that. It makes so much sense. I hate that the Strava training plan prescribes Fartlek runs, which are great, and then I have to use a third party app to cue my intervals.

  • Agreed. I've moved to Strava from Endomondo when Endo decided to focus more on "social" and apparel sales than on sport - *except* that the endo app has had intervals for quite a while now. Time for Strava to catch up on this front too.

  • Wow I can’t believe this app doesn’t have this already. Guess I can’t use it after all.

  • I’ve recently taken up running and taken out the paid Strava subscription - to realise I’ve wasted my money, simply because no provision for interval workouts.

For anybody seriously getting into this running malarkey, interval training is a necessity.

Very disappointed (and surprised) at Strava.

  • an interval feature feels necessary, I just switched to strava and am already considering ditching it because of the lack of an interval feature for my speed work

  • Exactly, I’m considering to go back to Runkeeper

  • I assumed this would be part of Strava Premium but it has no provision for it. Surely if it can tell you your distance it can tell you other things!

  • Same here, I've dropped my split announcements to 500m which has helped but I'm tempted to use something else for interval training

  • I just started the Summit trial. Summit offers a lot of cool features, but I'm really perplexed by the lack of interval training! I assumed at $60 a year there would be the capacity to actually run your workout off the app. For now, I use "Interval Timer" which is free, pretty easy to use, and highly programmable. It's just a total nuisance to have to switch back and forth while on a ride and then the data from Strava doesn't get attached to actual interval data. Why not make a interval program for the CTS field test so that accurate data is easy to record and analyze? Isn't that the entire point?

  • DOES ANYONE FROM STRAVA ACTUALLY READ THESE!? Haven't seen any official responses in the forums so far.

  • I've cancelled my summit subscription because of the lack of interval options. Hope they will add it in near future, otherwise i might transfer.

  • + millions for an interval app. Strava is useless for those of us living in cold and wet winter climates and train on stationary cycles. It would be great if I could translate riding route segments to intervals that would also display average power, speed, revs, heart rate, etc. in real time so I could duplicate what I do on my Kinetic trainer when the weather prevents me from an outdoor ride. For now, I will get a generic interval timer as a work around.

I will probably cancel my Summit subscription and opt for the paid Kinetic subscription that allows creation of custom workouts. Or, just go with the work around and get on with it. Still think the basic Strava functionality is great though. Has made a big difference in improving my performance even though I am not that great of a rider. :)

  • I am sure that Strava team is working on it but I must admit I am sad they don’t have it and don’t comment on all the posts.

As a beginner in running - since I started in October last year - I only use Strava and never had any experience with any other app. Recently I discovered I’d like to start doing intervals but because of no such option - I don’t do it.

  • I echo everyone above. I have a edge for cycling but an Apple Watch for everything else. I want the stats but cannot run two Apple Watch apps at once so, after a lot of trial, I started using Runmeter as the primary feed from my watch. That way I get the intervals and feed into Strava but at an extra annual cost. Strava- please add the functionality to your road map and give us feedback on the progress

  • I'm just moving over from Runkeeper to Strava and was trying to setup an interval run and just discovered this feature is missing. I use this all the time on Runkeeper and it's a major barrier stopping me move to Strava.

  • I can echo the request to an interval feature. I’ve seen the one on the Garmin app. This is exactly what I’d need for my marathon training.

  • Had joined Strava because a lot of running clubs use it. But not having the ability to do intervals is a major disappointment.  I will continue to use Runkeeper and just manually upload my runs.

  • I'd be happy to subscribe if this was added to the subscriber tier

    - Ability to set intervals

    - audio announcements (or at least some sound) to notify of interval changes

    - ideally have it work when I'm running using the Samsung Active Watch app (so I don't have to have my phone with me)

  • +1 just joined Strava premium from Nike run club. Can’t believe this isn’t a feature already. Do folks from Strava normally comment and acknowledge these threads?

  • I don't understand how so many people use Strava when it doesn't feature cue's for interval training! This is basic!!!! I am canceling my subscription. To me this is app is useless without it. I'll use runkeeper. Many trining plans in the app feature interval training! Yet no feature to set up their training plans. This is insane! WE NEED TO STOP USING THIS APP UNTIL THEY ADD THIS FEATURE!
