Summary of downhill starred segments

I am aware strava has taken the decision to remove downhill segments from the live feed.   While frustrating, I think I understand.

The feature i would like to see is a progressive update during my mountain bike ride of my performance of both up and downhill starred segments against pr’s    I don’t need the device to tell me while I am on the segment, just sometime after (even a minute after would be fine).

I never watch the time while actually doing a dh run, concentrating too hard.

Did I get anywhere near the my PR?  Did I smash it?  When I’m on a 3 hour ride it’s good to get some real time feedback on how I’m going which is very motivating.

At the moment I only know at the very end of the ride.   Cmon strava, surely you aren’t just about road riders who just climb hills?

  • Agree - really just need mid ride updates. I will be cancelling my membership as it is now completely useless.

  • And come on, we're talking about .25%.  Most of my ride into work ends more than .25% below my start.  If you want to drop descents of 4-5% or greater, fine, but just riding hills now I can no longer use live segments and that's the reason for my premium account.  Will definitely be cancelling.

  • Well done Strava, you must be very, very rich as you clearly don't need any one's subscription anymore? 0.25% really? I think you have shot yourselves in the foot, as for me if I am riding a downhill section and I am behind on my PR by a few seconds I back off and take it a bit easier. Now everyone is going to riding at max. all the time without knowing until afterwards what the result is, encouraging people to give it their all, all of the time.

Nice one, what silly ideas have you got lined for us next?

  • Strava.... why??? You've completely taken the fun out of Mountain biking with your 'new idea' of 0.25% live segments decent..... really????
I will definitely be cancelling my m'ship when it's up for renewal, now a complete waste of time and money. Let's hope you come to your senses soon and make it fun for Mountain bikers again, or set a more realistic %. We don't all just want to watch the tarmac go by under the wheels as we ride along holding up the traffic

  • Also going to be cancelling membership as live feed is the only reason I was paying to begin with.... the arbitrary -.25% threshold is ridiculous. Now you are going to be sued for giving athletes eating disorders..... Why not just remove the dangerous segments from live feed? Anything with an average speed over 40mph would make sense...removing long stretches that follow the river is ridiculous....Anybody over 180lbs is going to find the live feed useless......

CMON! it is just flat road!

it is very funny — you pay for it, but you can`t use it !

  • STRAVA - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rethink this live segment rule. I spend money on a bike computer and subscription so I can monitor my efforts and you make it only possible on hills. Even segments with both downhills and uphills are included. Surely at least add a switch so the rider can choose to toggle this feature themselves. If I am aiming to beat my PB this is the type of information I am looking for. This is a vital part of a subscription.

Also I have noticed I can still track live segments on my mobile phone that include downhills so why have you banned this feature on bike computers???

  • This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I spent 30 minutes trying to get the segment to load. I had thought it was Garmin's fault. I agree with the above comments, if its dangerous, flag it, people are going to push it with or without live segments. If you really need the rule, make it like -4 or 5%. Not flat. At a minimum pop up and tell me the segment is starting and my PR.

Tons of fun rolling segments end up slightly downhill. This is one of my favorites. You lose barely 100ft in over 2 miles.https://www.strava.com/segments/4783255?filter=overall. If its so dangerous, flag it. It seems like every change strava has made in the last two years makes it worse (like the segment paywall). I pay for Strava specifically for live segments, if the segments don't work, I'm out.
