Minimise commutes in Activity feed

I would prefer to get Kudos for my longer rides but not my commute, I could make my commutes private but I want them to count towards my targets for the year.

Based on feedback Strava isn't planning on allowing an option to hide commutes from the activity feed - how about minimising the space they take up in the feed.

One option would be to not include a map for the commute or only showing the map when the activity is clicked through?

  • Come on, Strava! Please do something about the commute thing! I also feel like I'm annoying people with it. If you really don't want to add a "don't show in feed" feature, which would be perfect, also for adding older stuff from before I used strava, then please do this!! Endomondo does it, why can't you!? Why would you add a commute button without function!?

  • A commute function would be nice. National Bike Challenge has a contest between Fort Collins, CO and Moab, UT & Park City, UT. I would like to start logging my bike commuting miles in order to truly show my biking miles but I'm afraid of alienating my friends with all of the additional notifications. For now, I guess I'll just keep my commutes out of Strava but would make the request to Strava to add a function to filter commutes in the near future.

  • Hide from followers feed required!

All my commutes are private beacuase I do not want to spam everyone with 2 crappy rides per day. However like Stuart I would like all the benefits of public heatmap/goals/targets/etc etc. Surely Strava would want more people making their rides public too?

  • Was just about to start a new thread and found this one. Could someone from Strava pls answer why this can't or won't be done?  Either I will have to stop using Strava for my commute (which for the reasons others have stated I don't want to do) or many of us are going to lose followers for filling their activity feeds with crap rides because we are "going to work" and "going home again".  This can't be difficult to fix.

  • Hi,

I have short commutes of a few kilometers only, but I stopped tracking them, because they mess up my feed.

Please create a feature that allows to handle commutes without stopping to track them completely.

  • I am sick of putting my commutes on private to not spam people with my 2.5k commute. Please address this issue Strava.

  • Howdy Stravarians.... another 2 votes for this function.
#1 for those I follow, but commute daily - my feed ends up with 60-70% commute rides. Spam central!
#2 for me, as I record rides with my kids (over holidays is peak) I don’t want to spam others!

    Cheers

  • There's a clear disparity between how Strava sets up the app to be used and customary Strava etiquette. Flooding feeds with daily commutes is almost worthy of public ridicule on Stravawankers. To minimize all posts tagged as commute is a no-brainer! Followers don't need to see that route outlined on a map twice a day.

  • implement this finally please!
OR give others the option to hide commutes (by others) in their feed.
Whats the "commute" option for anyway if you can't filter it in the feed.

  • Hey Strava - I’ll pay for Summit if you hide commutes.

  • Another vote for this. As others have said it's good data for heat maps etc, but I don't want to bore others to death with it.

Also security wise I'd rather people cant see my daily routine of being away from home. Surely cant be hard to just hide anything flagged as commute from others

    Thanks

  • Hi
any news on the commute thing? Are "private" activities also not part of the total distance and elevation per year?

    Thank you

  • Some of my bikes only see short commute/errand trips and if I mark them private I can’t log mileage and heatmaps easily. Just like everyone else here I don’t want to bomb out my feed with little, completely uninteresting rides. Where the features at strava? Anyone home?

  • I’ll pay for Summit too, if they fix this. Why is Strava not even answering this feed? They spam me daily with all these new and great features that I don’t want and didn’t ask for and don’t want to pay for. Yet here we all are with something we do want and no one can be bothered... There are several threads about this and not one has received any response from Strava.

  • Another reminder to Strava to please implement this.  Half the work is done by users marking their rides as commutes so just need the option of hiding from the feed !  And while you're at it can we also have an option to mark rides as 'virtual', as I'd love to also hide those from my feed.  I wouldn't have thought it would be too hard to add a filter feature on the feed. Otherwise love the app !
