Cropping activity clears Ride with athletes

When I crop activity, it always clears the "Ride with" list from my ride and probably the former fellow riders too. That's quite annoying as I often cut the beginning or end due to missing our bad GPS or walking from the house.

Can this be fixed please? Thank you!

  • Have you had any luck resolving this issue? I've been having this issue for over a year now, as have many other users, and yet Strava chooses to ignore it. I've sent numerous tickets, all of which take ages to be responded to, only for Strava to claim that it's been solved and close the close. It is extremely frustrating!

  • Zbyněk, it would be interesting to download the GPX, use a text editor to crop the activity manually, upload as a new activity, and see if that links up the "Ride with" correctly. It's good to run the FlyBy to get the start and end times before heading off with the file.

  • Well, I think it works, Cam. You can even crop, export GPX and reupload again.

But you usually need to do it at your PC which may be later. And if in the meantime you get some interaction with fellow riders, you don't want to delete the original activity.

  • Ah, yes, thanks, that worked.

When I crop a run or ride, "other athletes" I was with disappear.

So, I did as suggested, cropped it in Strava, exported it, deleted that activity from Strava (can't upload duplicate activities), then re-upload it back onto Strava, and they all appear again, nice!  Bit of a pain, but only took seconds to do.

  • July/2020 and issue still happens... a workaround is to 1) crop activity 2) export GPX 3) deleted activity 4) upload previous exported GPX ... but that IS NOT a solution, it's a workaround... clearly the crop function messes with things and the algorithm doesnt go an re-check for flybys =( STRAVA wake up please !

  • This is still happening ...AND it now affects segment times. Compare your segment times before and after cropping! This leads me to believe that there is a major issue with timestamps following the changes made to the cropping feature earlier this year.

I take all segment times with a pinch of salt from now on.

  • I sometimes crop a small portion of the beginning and end of my activities, for one reason or another. I've recently noticed however that cropping an activity significantly affects the segment times during that activity, as well as removing me from any group that I was riding with. All of my data is fine until the crop, and the affected segments are throughout the entirety of the ride, not just the beginning or end.

I've raised the issue with Strava Support, and after the usual referral to previous threads, denials, etc. they finally accepted that they are experiencing an issue regarding timestamps on cropped rides.

"...it looks like this is an issue with our system that happens once activities are cropped. We are aware of this issue and are working on solving it as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience." This was some time ago and I've heard nothing since.

I can no longer trust the data that Strava is showing me. I certainly don't believe the accuracy of ANY segment times that I now see. I've even had to keep some activities private as the times achieved were ridiculous.

I've spoken to other Strava users who have all confirmed that it isn't just my account or my device that is causing this, as they've noticed it too. It appears to have begun when the crop function was added to the mobile app earlier this year. We could only previously crop using the desktop version.

I've started a new thread on the issue - I'll add a link if/when it gets approved,
