Are age category leaderboards fixed by age at the time of the activity?

This would seem to be a no-brainer, but I just wanted to check - I assume that if I get a time on a segment when I am in one particular age category (e.g. 45-54), then that attempt is forever linked to my age on that date, i.e. when I turn 55 I won't appear in the 55-64 category leaderboard for that segment based on an effort I made when I was younger?

The results you see when you filter by age group will reflect the age you were at the time of the activity.

Keep in mind that it is possible to be displayed on multiple filtered leaderboards. For example, you will show up on both the 35–44 and the 45–54 leaderboards in the event that you uploaded an activity when you were 44 and matched a segment, then uploaded another activity when you're 45 that matched that same segment. This also applies to weight categories.

  • Funny...7 days later and I was just thinking about this myself and did a search.

I have a particular 11 mile segment (out of a 30 mile route) where I vacation every summer. Some of the dates of the segment activities go back to 2012. When I am looking at my age group (55-64), are the activities by the other guys completed when they were 7 years younger than the age group they so in now, or were they 55-64 at the time of the activity. My aging, yet sensitive ego wants to know:)

This doesn't answer your questions, but adds another dimension to it...

  • This should be an easy question to answer - we just need to find someone who has trasitioned from one age category to another and get them to check which age leaderboard their PR on a segment appears in, where that PR was achieved before they moved to the older category..

In my case I have Strava data going back to 2013, when I was 46. I'm now 52, so still in the 45-54 group. But there must be thousands of people who have data spanning two age catehories - can one of you check, please..? :-)

  • With a few runs at the same trail that date back to 2010, they would have occurred in my 45-54 yo category. I am now in the 55-64 category. If I filter the list for 45-54 the best of my efforts from those 2010 runs show up in the 45-54 category leaderboard. My PR for the segment is from the 55-64 catagory (10/2016) and is shown when I set the filter for 55-64 category.

But I don't have an overall segment PR from when it was in the previous category, so I am not sure if it answers the question just yet.

I am sure I ran the trail faster back in the day, but it was before I started saving the activity in any app like Strava.

On the other hand, maybe it's a good thing that as far as the recorded activities are concerned the PR is from when I am older:)
