Samsung galaxy watch - Crashing

I have a Samsung galaxy watch and often whilst using strava on it, it randomly dumps the Strava app and stops recording losing all data. In the recent apps screen the Strava can be seen at its last values but when pressed it just restarts the app. Whilst not a major issue it is quite frustrating I'd you're recoding a bike ride/run/walk etc. Is this a strava problem or Samsung ? Does anyone else have this issue or solutions how to remedy it? I'm regretting switching to Samsung from Apple but will move to another sports tracker if need be as I can afford to switch kit again.

  • Mine seems to crash when the samsung watch detects activity. It kills the Starva app, and tells me "good job" or "keep it up"

    Very annoying

  • I'm having a similar issue on runs longer than 5 miles. This issue started 11/3/2019, prior to that I didn't have the dropping of the run being recorded. Since then, the run recording has been dropped around 5 miles into a run 6 consecutive times. I think it may have something to do with the Galaxy watch "step target achieve" notification, and a bug kills the Strava recording. Going to change my step target and see if that solves the issue on my next 10k run.

  • Before you do your workout you can try to set your Notifications to Off ( by the Galaxy Wearable app).

Then start your workout by Strava.

When your workout has ended you can set your Notifications to On again.

    Interested in the outcome

  • Yup, same problem. I opened a ticket with Strava Support and so far their only advice is to reinstall the app on my watch and my phone.  Other advice I've found is to turn OFF auto pause.  At my workout this morning, I restarted the Strava app 3 times and it crashed out every time. i finally gave up.

Simply put, the app is broken and Strava needs to fix it. Some of us are paying for Strava subscriptions as well.

  • I uninstalled the Strava app on the wearable apps and reinstalled. The other thing I changed was my "steps" goal in the Samsung app to outside my run distance. This has solved the issue I was having.

  • With the above configuration/setup I had 4 runs on the bike. Two indoor and two outdoor, All recorded the workout and synced without any problem!

So please check your own configuration/setup and look if it differs from mine.

  • Having the same problem. It's infuriating. Get home to see how you've got on after a run and....Doh nothing recorded. I have a Samsung galaxy watch. Just posting really so Strava can see there's lots of people with the same problem and hopefully do something about it. Will also try what people have suggested and increase my steps target. Will let you know.

  • I've been having the same problem for some months now, I've tried reinstalling strava on both my s7 edge and galaxy watch 42mm but still the same problem. I've disabled notifications but still lost the app half way though a 5k. Don't even try to listen to music as again it loses the App.  Didn't have any problems earlier in the year so either it's a strava app or watch sw update that's causing the problems.  Now only using Strava on my phone when running and given up on the watch as it's so unreliable.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • I've had this issue with my Active2 on my bike but not on my runs. It seemed to happen when the Samsung app auto-detected cycling which crashed the Strava app (could be a coincidence, I have no proof that was the cause). I have since disabled auto-detection of activities except for walking/running (because runs seem to be fine) so I'll see how that goes. It will be very disappointing if this continues as an issue as one of the reasons I got the Active2 was for the Strava App.

  • Notifications off was not enough for me. But in Flight mode, the app seems working without issues. Synchronisation comes after reconnexion. Better that as nothing.

  • I'm having the same problem when out on my mountain bike. Galaxy edge and galaxy watch 46. Records half my ride and just stops for no obvious reason. Sometimes I thought it was because autostop not 're starting bit today it stopped while still moving but didn't realise until I finished the ride.

  • I am having the same issue.  I received a Active2 for Christmas and I will start to record a workout or run and Strava will shut down, no data recorded!  I am ready to go back to my Fitbit Versa.

  • For those having the same setup as I ( have no problems at all) . Don't take your phone with you when doing an indoor or outdoor bike exercise. This to prevent the watch gets connected to the phone which maybe leads to errors..

    Don't know if it helps

    but worth trying.

Galaxy Wacth received a latest update:

    Hardware Model Samsung Galaxy Watch 46 ( SM-R800 ) , Softwareversion: R800XXU1DSL1

    Operating System Version Tizen 4.0.0.7

    Application Version Strava 1.2.6

  • Update: after trying many different configurations and workarounds I've deleted the Strava app until it gets fixed. The problems seem to be getting worse, not better (issues with runs and rides now) but why on earth are we all having to keep trying all these changes and workarounds? The app should be robust enough to cope with other things going on in the background, its a smartwatch app, it should be able to cope with normal smartwatch usage. It says to me that this app was rushed out and not tested properly OR that it hasn't been tested with subsequent updates of TIZEN. There are so many bugs, for me it's too unreliable to use. I'm going to use Samsung Health for tracking my runs and sync that to Strava. It's so disappointing, one of the things that attracted me to the Galaxy Active 2 was the Strava app.

  • After having the same issue, I have been just as frustrated as the other users on the thread. As another user has already mentioned, I noticed a conflict between Strava and Samsung health. I have also had problems when starting a run before the location pin has turned white. So, SOLUTION: make sure the location pin is white (gps locked) and you turn OFF Samsung Health notifications. Since then (touch wood) it has worked flawlessly. Hope this helps.

  • I have tried various configs and it still stops after a while. I don't take my phone with me to the gym, I always have auto-pause disabled on Strava.

The next step I am trying is to disable the auto-detect exercising on the Samsung Health App because it seems to be clashing.

Still, Stava needs to fix this.
