Clubs

This is the post for all feedback and feature requests related to Clubs.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Please allow clubs to select the activities that count towards their leaderboard, not every club in the world is for running and cycling

  • Strava team, there have been multiple requests here for more activities to be included in clubs. As a start you could VERY simply remove the activity restrictions from “other”. Your short answers telling us how it currently works or that you are listening are more annoying than useful. You should be able to see that from the negative feedback to your questions. If you are listening please reply directly to the issue that’s being raised over and over again! Once again, can you either remove the restriction from the “other” category, or create an “any”. Ideally you’d allow the group admin to select included activities from a list but changing “other” or adding “any” would do for a start. Thanks!

  • Just joined a club and to my amazement, hiking and walking are not supported activities on the leaderboard.  WHAT??  Many people can't run, don't own/can't afford a bike, and don't/can't afford to swim -- but STILL WALK DAILY FOR EXERCISE. Why on earth does Strava NOT support the most popular exercise activity available, for free, to the average person?   Bloody elite athlete attitude, if you're not a runner/swimmer/cyclist you're not exercising?

    Cordialement

  • I would like the weekly total miles in the club to be displayed like the personal miles in a graph form, so we can see just for wee cycle each week as a club and over time.

  • Please provide a way to list Club members alphabetically or even better to search for them. I have to remove expired members from our Strava group and it's a pain to scroll through over 400 member names.

  • Hi, is it possible to set up a club that includes/records all activity types (walking, swimming, running, cycling)?

I have set up a club, but I think it only records & displays our cycling activities???

    Thanks

  • Our club is for roller skating. Which isn't even a sport as it is. We are unable to track on the group at all. No one cares about biking or running on our group. Please make it possible to track rollerskating for a group.

  • Just want to add to Jon Hill's post - Clubs are hosting many different sorts of challenge events and limiting these to cycling or running is very limiting.  Please open options up to "Clubs" to include multiple types of exercises in their events.   Advertisement events have this option.

  • Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the support, but don't hold your breath.  It's nearly 8 months now and despite having the most votes and same request in probably 50% of all the comments there has been nothing from Strava.

  • The amazing thing about the lack of response on this, from Strava, is that it isn't a difficult feature to implement, at all. The simplest thing they could do, is to remove the existing filter that limits which activities count towards the leaderboard.
The next simple step is to put the filter back, but with control over what gets filtered.
The options are endless and not massively complicated - all that's needed is a desire to do it...

  • Nice email from Strava today, they made massive improvements. I just wonder why they can't make the simple change so many have requested.... or even explain why they won't make the change.

  • I want to allow an 'Other' activity leaderboard count in Strava clubs. It will allow me to implement club leaderboards for other groups/activities (other than run, swim, bike), such as walking groups. The reason that is important is because there is a large population of users who walk (or do other sports) and would like to have a leaderboard. An example of when I needed that was any time I have walked, or participated in a walking group.
This SHOULD BE important to STRAVA because it would engage a much wider userbase, making it more dominant in the competition space.

  • Hi Michael,

Nice comment, let's hope your request has more success than mine and the other over 50% of comments on this forum.

  • Are we going to be getting club challenges soon with the introduction of custom challenges?

  • Can an option for be added for clubs to be geographically restricted. See screenshot. This is a challenge for the Red Bull UK club. It makes no sense for people outside the UK to be a member of this club and it detracts from the challenge which has prizes which are only eligible to UK residents. Can understand a brand allowing anyone to join but not when it’s specially a UK club. I am a member of many clubs and have my own clubs which have obvious geographical limits in the title, ie Strava Scotland or Kintore Group rides. The latter is my group, set up for locals to my town Kintore, I have a member in there from Columbia who once signed up for a group ride. Everyone just joins lots of clubs and a lot of it makes no sense especially big ones like Red Bull UK or Strava Scotland.

  • The discussion related to a club event can be accessed from the Strava web interface, but it does not seem to be accessible on the Strava Android app (neither to add a new comment to the discussion on an upcoming club event, nor to read previous comments in the event discussion). As far as I can tell, the app only allows commenting on a club post.

  • Bookmarking Clubs: Often there is a club that I wish to follow, typically from a location that I vacation or a hometown but I do not live there, as examples. I do not wish to join the local Strava club…they don’t need to see my every distant-location workout on their activity feed.  It is hard to remember the clubs, though, if I don’t join. My suggestion is for a method, perhaps as a feature of a paid subscription, to Bookmark Clubs. Simply allow me to mark them, store in a new Bookmarks tab, and then I can return to these clubs periodically to see activities and postings. The feature bookmarks might be used for other Strava “pages” that a subscriber might wish to someday return to, like conversations, a specific activity of their own or someone they follow, etc.  Thank you for considering this idea. • Please fix the event route drop-down (HTML SELECT element) reloading capability of the Club Event edit form. When I choose to edit an event I previously created, perhaps because I want to update notes or something, all of the previously entered event data loads except the previously chosen route. If I forget to reselect the route, because that isn't what I had in mind to edit, the update sets the event route to NULL. If I'm lucky, I catch it before I leave the screen. If not, I endure the embarrassment of club members telling me there is no route. Additionally, each edit sends an email to all all the athletes who've previously RSVP'd, so I'm also filling their inbox with lots of unnecessary emails. More undue embarrassment.

  • Please change the club leaderboards to track more than just swim, run, ride. Please make annual and monthly club leaderboards an option.

I'm not sure why I think adding this request again will make a difference but I'll try it. As so many others have said, we would like to track more activities on our club leaderboard than are currently offered. With all the features Strava currently has I don't really understand why these changes would be difficult to make. Well, here's to hoping when Strava reads this they are finally like "Alright, alright, we get it this is a totally rad idea and would improve our users experience with clubs, and because our users are important to us we will make it happen this week"

  • it would be nice to have a club for EACH supported activity.

there is only run/cycle/swim and "other" which counts basically everything.

this is not helpful at all. if you want to have a club for lets say indoor rowing only (some trainers support ant+/bluetooth) then all you can do is use "other" but then everything but rowing counts into the results. this is really bad.

  • Regular Runners in USA 14.5 million now.

Regular Walkers (including Hikers) in USA 80 million now.

Future trend based on aging population: Runners will significantly decrease, walkers will significantly increase.

    Strava, make walking a priority.  🚶‍♀️ 🥾 👟

Come to your own conclusions, about that.

  • Tom Benzaia totally agree on your comment regarding the foibles of event editing.  I've set up club runs, then gone back to make route changes - folks who have already RSVP'd get a notice that the location has changed!  This results in some mild panic on their part given that the STRAVA event shows no changes.  There should be a toggle option for the event creator to "Notify Participants" if the update warrants a shotgun blast of app alerts and e-mails.

  • Matt Sanchez - I also agree, but being a software developer, myself, I'm painfully aware of how easy it is for notification emails to become seriously annoying SPAM, so always try to come up withe a solution that involves zero or well focussed emails. It's not easy, but the easy option is quite often the wrong one

  • Can we just allow walking in the leaderboards please! It's easy to filter by sport for those that are ultra competitive but also allows all ability levels to be included.

  • As Strava seem to be largely ignoring the requests about including any activities in leaderboards, I feel compelled to make another attempt to let you all know about the chrome browser extension that is available for dealing with this.

It only works on desktop browsers, at the moment, but this may change, in future (if Strava don't provide a solution, themselves)
