  • when viewing the monthly training calendar, it would be super helpful if it would show the distance of the activity and to color code each activity similar to MapMyRide. I am finding i am having to go to MapMyRide monthly calendar. for the rest I use Strava. I like to compare how I am doing to the same month for previous years.

I now simply add the distance to my ride title, although my followers may find it strange I have the distance in my title, so i wish it were just added to the training log.

this is the monthly training log on my MapMyRide.... love the highlighted activities. the orange is rides, purple walks. when i Stand Up Paddle it is blue. Yoga is green and so forth. makes it really nice to see your activities at a glance. also, these are untitled rides and it show the distance.

this is the Strava monthly log. i added the distance to my title so i could see the distance without opening each activity:

  • I would really like to be able to tag a run as 'parkrun' as one of the options for 'Type of run'. Parkrun is huge, and it would be great to be able to filter them out into their own list.

  • Jared DiMartine Velo Viewer does this. You can use the free version and manually sync your strava data (literally just hit a button to update), or pay 10pounds / year. It does exactly what you're after.

  • Jared DiMartine => This app also does it but at the month not day-level. Check the YoY Summary section or Charts section. It allows to compare years for distance, time, paces, elev gain including per km, HR, cadence, avg. distance, most active day etc. I realized over time that what I am checking the most is the exactly the YoY summary to see how I progress, improve or end up at the end of the year. The same can be done at month or week level and copy pasted to excel for further processing if needed.

  • I want to be able to filter by specific bike in "My Activities", "Training Log" and "Training Calendar". This will let me keep track of the miles put in on each bike.

  • Please add HORSEBACK RIDING as an activity option!
Average Speed and Top Speed would be great to have there :) Thanks!

  • This is another request to Strava to add "orienteering" as a sport. It's not adequately covered by the other sports on the list. I've seen that there have been many requests already to add orienteering; can Strava please give some feedback about this? Is there a plan to add it?

  • Hello Strava!
I have an idea for you that I think would improve your app. I’ve been using Strava for about 2 years and my biggest problem has been that if I stop my watch for different parts of a workout, or accidentally restart it during a run, the two activities appear on different parts of the timeline. My suggestion is to give users the option to “link” their runs. It could appear similarly to when different people are running together, but it would be different parts of the same person’s run. So “warmup” “workout” and “cool down” could be different activities, but would appear together and linked on the timeline.
Again, love the app, just offering a suggestion!
    Best,
    Colleen

  • I strongly endorse Ryan's feature request - please add an option at the activity level to select whether moving time or elapsed time is the relevant duration to add to the training time totals - but for a different reason:

Strava currently uses "moving time" as the relevant training duration for rides, which is fine for real outdoor rides, but not for virtual rides, because in virtual rides the notion of "moving" is ambiguous. Specifically, many virtual rides, such as Zwift events and especially Rouvy AR rides, start with a warm-up period and/or end with a cool-down period during which I am actually pedaling (i.e. working) but the avatar is not "moving" and hence speed is recorded to be zero. Hence, the warm-up and cool-down is currently not recogenized as training time in the log. This is unfortunate, because especially the warm-up is occasionally quite long und includes some relevant efforts - it happens that the "moving time" reported Strava is less than half of the time I'm actually riding. PLEASE fix this! Thanks guys!

  • Christine K. I achieve this by using different bikes (under gear). It's not perfect, but it works. For example:

training = "My Road Machine", Weight 8Kg
commute = "My Road Machine and pannier", Weight 11Kg

It's pretty easy switching the gear that you used on a particular ride once it's saved - I do this pretty much every time I record as I switch so much.

One "gotcha" is that it will take a few minutes for the updated estimated calories to take effect. For example, assume your default bike is "commute", and you log a training ride. Based upon the speed / total weight / HR etc it estimates that you burned 1000 calories. If you then switch to the "training" bike, your actual calories might be 800 - but this will take a few minutes to update and show. This also applies to estimated power.

If you have a power meter then it shouldn't make so much of a difference as the power you're putting out and HR will reflect the actual effort (and therefore calories consumed).

  • @ Christine K. Why not just list another bike under "my gear" ? Call it your commuting bike or whatever, and include the weight of your panniers etc, then strava will calculate the estimated power differently. All you have to do is remember to select which bike you are using, which surely is easier than some of the things that people expect strava to impliment. It would be no different to choosing between road bike and MTB, for example.

  • Thank you both for the suggestion, that could work but it's nice to have it all logged with one bike so I can keep track of how many kms I've ridden on the tires, chain, and other wear items. Also this feature could be useful for others that ride with different configurations, bike packing and the like.

  • 1) Provide a separate forum for "Fitness & Freshness"

    2) Allow users to specify a custom time range for "Fitness & Freshness". I.e. a "from date" and "to date" we can select ourselves. It is incredibly useful if you want to look at what your training looked like say a year ago for just two months. If you use the "All time" or "2 Years" it scrunches the graph too much to be useful. E.g. I want to look at some training from 2018 and the "All time" graph is useless for that. I'd like to be able to enter my own custom time range.

    3) [more advanced and harder] Implement a comparison between two custom time ranges so you can compare training periods.

    Thank you.

  • Pilates as an activity

Given that the last reference for Pilates was Sept 2020 as part of the training log contribution, I would like to suggest it has equal status to Yoga.

I now have a growing dislike towards Yoga, given that any of my Pilates activity need to recorded as either Yoga or 'Other'.

There is also the suggestion that a Pilates activity option, could increase the popularity as well as finding clubs?

  • Since Strava already tracks who we ride/run with on a per activity basis (based on privacy settings), but I would love to see that expanded to create a "MilesTogether" feature that would show how many miles I have ridden/run with each of my Following/Followers lists. It would be awesome to recognize milestones by having them appear on my feed, like "Tim and Joel have ridden 10,000 miles together" or things like that.  I think it would increase user community and may even encourage more group activities.

As a user for nearly a decade, I would love to be able to see how many miles I have put on with all of the different Strava users who have been a part of my experience.

  • I've got a feature request: please add a "transportation" option to activities similar to the "commute" option. This will let users tag any activities where they run/walk/cycle to get around town, not just to/from work. For individual users, we'll be able to see how far we used active transportation, and for city planners using the Heatmaps, they can better gauge P2P trips that are not just exercise (which could arguably go in other directions).

  • Yesterday I did my first run with Strava and ended up with 3 activities for the same run.  SInce each activity came from a different connected device and has different information I would like to keep all 3, but the problem is that Strava added up the 3 times and distances.  If the activity is during the same timeframe as adjacent activities, the highest time and distance of the set should be used instead of the sum of the 3.

  • I really like the suggestion by Marius Flugsrud , above (Other activity and Activity tagging). For example you don't have a facility to track fencing, let alone its subtypes (sabre / foil / epee). There's been tickets kicking around for years about adding this activity type (your competitors have it...) - but it's clearly not going to happen if it hasn't happened by now. An "Other" category, with the ability to tag would address this pretty elegantly, and also address a bunch of other needs. For example you could use it to tag a workout as "social" "HIIT" "VO2" "My regular crazy workout" "Recovery" etc.

    Cheers

  • It would be good to have Pilates as an option in exercises -- I practice both yoga and pilates, and they are very definitely not the same.

  • Here's one more vote for adding "Orienteering" - it's really popular in Finland as well, and marking those activities only as "Running" is really silly.

  • I totally agree with orienteering, especially as it's quite popular in Nordics etc. This would be of great help to athletes (as myself) involved in the sport, as it would make it possible to measure orienteering kilometres and training hours separately from other sports. It is important to measure this because, in addition to running, this activity develops technical skills in the sport.

  • I both ride to commute and to train/have fun. A big difference is that when I commute I bring a pretty heavy pannier.
Would be great to adjust my bike weight when commuting to properly calculate power, calories, effort, etc. This could even be implemented when adding the commute tag after a ride.

  • I think including an activity type of Pilates would be great because then I could see when I have completed a Pilates class vs when I have completed Yoga classes. This is important to me because as a triathlete I do different types of cross training for different types of benefit - Pilates and Yoga are not the same and have very different benefits to me as a triathlete.

  • I like the new "Correct distance" feature, altough it's not quite what I need. I will explain using my recent example:

    - My last Ride had real 206 km (measured on wheel device).

    - My GPS device recorded only 201,1 km. It's because it looses about 1 km of the ride per 50 km total. It's just how the device is measuring the distance, and I cannot change that with any settings.

    - Then I used the "Correct distance" feature, but it calculated only 201,9 km, so still I lack 4 km.

Can you add the option to correct the distance manually? It would save my rided distance loses. I could just manually set the same distance as in the other more precise device by myself. I was informed that Garmin site has such feature for a long time. Why Strava don't?

Please add football as a recordable activity. It would be great to see the distance run during a five a side game.

    Thanks

  • I would suggest adding a new sport - nordic walking - to the list of activities that may be selected to customize the given exercise. A normal walk is currently available, nordic skiing is also available, but not nordic walking, which is somewhat different to the normal walk (it requires poles), is more energetic and involves whole body motion rather than just legs.

Looking forward to seeing nordic walking in Strava!
