New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • @Vincent Ng : The create button is in the segment section of an open water swimmig activity, not on the start page of that activity.

  • Thank you Jan. Yes, it works. However, many of the functionalities like explore segment, search segment, create event etc only have options for Run, Bike and not Others like Swim etc. Would appreciate the options can be extended to include Others like Swim. Thanks.

  • Masters/Grand-Masters

I, like all athletes, am getting older. At 57, I can no longer compete for KOMs with my younger fellow athletes. It would be nice if you added Masters/Grad Masters cups or something like that. I train as much as I can with limitations by age and injury, so I do not use many of the Paid Subscription features. I would assume that I am not unique and many other older athletes feel that same way. As a lifetime Software Engineer (almost 40 years), I think adding this feature would be relatively simple and a godd return on investment.

  • I would like to see the kudos I got in alphabetical order on my iPhone too, just like in Windows.

When you got a lot of kudos it is hard to find a particlar person. You need to scroll all the way down and hope you didn't mis him/her.

  • Streak

It would be nice if Strava kept count on how many days I have more then 1.6 km run in a row.

    A streak counter.

  • Sam Nil we sort of have this functionality. If you view your Training Log you can essentially see your streak. The monthly recap also displays a calendar with your # of active days. Thanks for the suggestion for the streak counter though.

Thanks to Carl Schneider Gert V. and Vincent Ng for your suggestions, I'm passing your feedback along.

  • Audio cues while cycling

Please make it so we get audio cues while cycling. Similar to audio ques while running, but obviously with different Intervals. Maybe custom intervals? What if I want audio cues every 5.67 miles?

  •  I would like to see  "Onewheel" as a "sport type"  Currently Onewheel riders across America are setting up segments designated as "Ice Skating" and that is less than desirable for our community and also skews the Ice Skating category. The reason that is important is that we would like to track our rides against other Onewheel riders. The Onewheel community is starting race leagues using segments and Strava is in competition to be the main recommended software to unite the communities across the world....As the leader for the largest Onewheel community in Arizona, I currently have been using Ride w GPS ( better club features ), but ultimately will be recommending the app that includes Onewheel as an important and growing community. I would also recommend adding EUCs ( Electric Unicycles ) as well as the e-rideables community is growing fast. Thank you and Kind regards!

  • Hello Strava,

As we are now able to start riding in groups I would love to be able to post group rides outside club rides.  Is this something being considered?

    Thanks…

  • I would love to see Strava put effort into building a full-featured cyclo-computer display on the mobile app.  My phone has a MUCH larger screen than my Garmin or my wife's Hammerhead.  I think about some of the data that I can display on those devices--like grade, altitude, heartrate, zone, average speed, max speed.  As I get older, I find myself preferring my phone as a computer--because I can read it without prescription glasses.

I would LOVE to see Strava put more effort into the realtime display during a ride on mobile.  I am not the only person getting older, and not the only person with an enormous phone screen.  I bet there are ways you could make that computer more fully featured than a lot of the aftermarket computers--while also being easier to read and one less device to carry.

  • Next and Previous buttons

It would be really nice to have Next and Previous buttons on the Activity pages.

Let's say you're viewing your activities. Instead of clicking on each activity and then going back to the Dashboard or My Activities each time, just click Next, Next, Next to go from one to the next.

A good example of this is provided by Atlassian JIRA. Each issue page has Next, Previous, and Return to Search. Very handy.

  • Hello,

I send you this message to give you a feedback for a specific functionality of Strava.

Today, it is possible to compare speed between workouts on similar tracks. I thing it is a good idea, but it is not very useful for me. For example, I can ride out with a specific speed one day, for example 28km/h, and another day it will be 33km/h. But does it mean I am better? I don’t think so, maybe my heartbeat was 30% higher, or the wind was in my favor and so my power was lower. Or maybe I wanted to ride on a similar track with a lower heartbeat that’s why my speed was lower.

So I think it could be a good idea to graph the evolution of heartbeat and the power when we compare similar workouts, because only speed is not always pertinent.

Thanks a lot for your feedback and keep going to improve your app!

  • Is it possible to look into improving the graphs in “Anayse Effort” by overlaying the two graphs on top of each other rather than side by side by. By doing this you can compare the performances quickly as currently the two graphs are a different scales so it’s difficult to see how you can improve at a particular point on the segment.

  • Strava has introduced the ability to record a wide selection of activity types, which is great. However, you can still only have running or cycling as your primary sport and the app shows very little data for any sports outside of these two options.

Currently, there are very few (if any) good, reliable apps for kayakers.

    I would love to see Strava add more features for the sport, such as;

    * Check in - The app paddle logger currently requests that you check in at specified times. If you don’t, it sends a text to your emergency contacts. This could be added to the beacon feature in Strava.

    * Kayak as a primary sport and club option - it would be great to be able to connect with users in the same way you can for riding and running.

    * Relevant stats and options - the weather function is a great start here.
Being able to log the boat you’re in under kit, the river you’re on as a free text box, paddle and pause time, specific segments and routes etc

    * The ability to pull more data from smart watches such as paddles per second etc to show segments you have higher exertion would be great.

Having these features will allow me to more closely monitor and improve my training and provide a forum to connect with other kayakers and form clubs of people that can’t do the generic Tuesday night meeting, but want to challenge each other to improve.

I’d happily pay subscription fees for access to these additional sports.

  • Could we please add a new sport, specifically pole sport? It's a world wide competitive sport. It's a combination of gymnastics, flexibility, strength and cardio. Each acrobatic move we achieve is a goal gained and it would be nice to track our performance here. You'd also have to add gear, eg: "x-pole 38/40/45/50mm" etc. This is an incredibly difficult sport and it needs to be included in athletic communities.
Dance would be a great new sport to add also. It's cardio etc.
    Perhaps also flexibility training? Gymnastics/callisthenics?

    Food for thought.

    Thank you.

  • I want to compare routes_. It will allow me to pick the route I want based on mood/physical preparation, in particular when I am away from home. The reason that is important is because I would like to check effort required, with a 5km breakdown of the routes, visually put one next to the other to analyze different KPIs_. An example of when I needed that was when I was away from home and wanted to choose which route to go for (without laptop). Visually comparing one route to another helps decide which one to pick _.

  • Using an iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard to to try to view Strava activity. The app will only show in a Portrait mode and will not flip to Landscape mode. Would like to see the app have capability to flip to landscape mode to enable use with keyboard.

  • I want to be able to share my activities with favourite athletes only. It will allow me to have more control over the privacy of my activities. The reason that is important is because I may not want certain people to know where I am doing some of my activities and I don’t want to block these followers. Instead I want for example my family or friends to see some activity I would consider private and all my other unknown followers to see my official activities.

  • Hey Frank Potter at this time, we don't have an iPad-specific application for Strava which is why the application is not filling the full screen, nor does it flip to a horizontal view. We appreciate your feedback.

Tania Sanchez thanks for your comment, however, it would be better if you shared that in our Privacy Topic instead of this one.

  • Group discussion would be nice! (no club feature!)

After each ride with other riders we get the group overview in the activity summary (with XX other). In this card it would be nice to discuss with all other.

  • Feature Request: Support the Garmin Varia RTL515 & RVR315 radar overlay

Ride with GPS provides this integration as an overlay in their app [ref: https://ridewithgps.com/help/garmin-varia]

You can integrate with BikeRadar via the Garmin Connect IQ SDK

I'd love to see this integration available for the Strava Android app.

  • Different Default Bike for Virtual Rides

I’ve always got one bike on the trainer and one on the road so it would be great to have different Default Gear for Rides vs Virtual Rides.

  • I would love to see some sort of addition on the app that you could press a 'button' when you had reached the end of your outward leg of you ride or at the start of the return leg. The outward and return legs would be shown as different colours on the map. I find it really annoying that it is so difficult to differentiate between outwards and return. Any chance ?

    Thx

  • When editing a run, please can the shoes default to most recently used? It's not even alphabetical and seems to vary each time. I have about 20 pairs on the go at once (so I guess this won't be a problem for most people....)

  • SWIMRUN Activity Support from Garmin Import

Dear Strava Team, as a swim runner I really like to share my multi sport activities with my peers on Strava. Sadly the Garmin multi sport activities are posted separately on Strava and cause quite some number of activities (5-15 different swim and run segments are usual). Could you consider a function to group these activities manually in a multisport activity or improve the Garmin import? Would be really happy about a solution. Have a nice day! Florian

  • Hi,

I think Florian S. idea is great and should be available on any sport even if it is the same one. For example, I recently did a bike touring route across France. Each day I would cycle half my route before lunch and the other half after lunch. Some times I managed e route to be paused during lunch so I could keep it as one activity, other times the garmin device would auto save and I ended with two activities with no possibility of combining them into my single day ride.

It has happened many times also during a hike where you stop for lunch and puse but then it stops, you end up with two halves instead of the full route in a single activity.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Florian S.! Strava can automatically split most multi-sport fit files from devices such as the 310xt, 910xt, or the 920xt. If you are seeing multiple activities result in Strava from your Garmin file, you may be experiencing a technical error with this function. However, I went ahead and created a support ticket for you so that we can investigate this further.

Hey Tania Sanchez! In regard to two activities resulting from your Garmin stopping mid-hike or mid-ride, you can actually export each activity file as a TCX or GPX file and then use a website called gotoes to combine the files. Just keep in mind that you'll need to delete the existing activities on Strava before uploading the merged file. Unfortunately, you will lose all kudos and comments on those activities. I hope that helps!

  • EXTRA RUNNING METRIC

As a runner, I would like to bring up the idea, to be able to syncronize "more data" that is coming in from other platforms.
I am running with a GARMIN HR, that calculated POWER, but also provides vertical ration, cadence, ...
Currently this data is not visible in STRAVA, so I need to return to my garmin.connect.
I think adding these metrics would be a great feature, like this people don't need to check 2 platform to get an update on there performances.
Also in addition to this it would be great to have like a "timeline" where you can track improvements on these metric.
Thanks for voting on the idea!

  • Hi JoJo Bruyninckx! Thanks for your feedback on running power. While we do not currently pull running power data from Garmin HR devices, we do show running power pulled from the Stryd or any other devices that act as a power meter. Feel free to check out this post here for additional information: https://www.strava.com/clubs/231407/posts/9021054. However, I will definitely pass along your suggestion on being able to pull estimated power from non-power meter devices to our Product Team.  Thanks!
