New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • why does Strava not have skateboarding? Surfskating is a long distance activity along with longboarding so would be really useful to have it on strava

  • Please add other social media platforms like MEWE to sharing to social media ... I am exploring FB alternatives and I think MEWE is a good candidate due to their stance on personal information and ad targeting ... so if I give FB the boot I want to easily be able to share my Strava exploits from the app ... or if that is too much to ask ...

... add a copy link to the activity other than the 'embedded' link as I am not a blogger

  • I really miss more extensive audio feedback like available with Addidas Runtastic app.

When walking I prefer to get audio notifications on distance, duration of last period, speed and pace. in runtastic there are more available, but i use the mentioned ones, now with walking i only have strt/stop & pause which does not have any added value in my opinion.

now i use both apps to complete the features, but rather have similar feedback in Strava

Below the screenshot of the function in Runtastic

  • Why can't we select the top-three activities for the statistics?

Now only running, cycling and swimming is available, i do not use either of them but would like to add walking/hicking. and I can imagine that others also like customisation on the statistics listing

    see screenshot below:

  • Anton V. thanks for your comment. We expanded the progress chart on the Mobile App to include all activity types, including walks and more. There is no longer a 3 sport limit. The order is based on how much time you’ve spent doing each sport type over the last 12 weeks, not the overall number of activities for each of them. So the sports you spend the most time doing will be shown first. We recommend you check out your walking and hiking stats on the Mobile App if you haven't yet. You can read more about this update here.

  • Hi there,

I could not find something similar under training and performance.

    Running Training Plans

This would make this a feature request then: currently with the training plans, for subscribed users, you can set it up with only the end date/length of program and the number of days you would like to train - but no other variables.

My training plan was set up for 4 days a week, which is what I selected, but the days are selected by default, (Tue, Thur, Sat, Sun), with no way to change this, I would rather train Mon, Tue, Thur, Sat and I know I can just reshuffle the training through the week. It would however be really awesome if you could select the days you would like to train and the plan be adjusted accordingly, similar to what Garmin has on their Garmin Coach functionality, also being able to select the long run day.

  • Why isn't sailing listed as a sporting activity, quite a few of us use it, but having to choose which bike to go sailing on is a bit rich.

  • I use Strava to track all my activities including Paragliding and here I have few problems:

     - no flight mode (and it is ok);

    - GPS track corrected to follow ground elevation - this probably the main problem;

Ideally will be nice to have flight mode with:

    - flight autodetection (moving speed > 4 m/s for some time)

    - GPX not following ground elevation;

    - Use extra tools for a display similar to Leonardo on paraglidingforum or XC Contest

  • This is my Galaxy Watch 4 running Wear OS 3.  I have 2 suggestions to make this app usable for runners.

#1 it only has 4 fields that show elapsed time, total distance, average pace, and pulse.  There is a ton of room for you to add current pace and cadence.  While 6 fields would be ideal, if you can't do that, make the 4 fields customizable.  Not having current pace and cadence makes the app useless for serious runners.

#2 the font size for everything but the pace is too small to see when you are running.  Even if you added the fields listed above, there is plenty of room to increase the font size.

Until these issues are addressed the strava app for Wear OS3 is not usable for me and I really want to be able to use it and like it.

  • I would like to set my default gear for walking. It is possible to set a default for running and cycling. Everytime I register a walk in strava it’s selecting my running shoes by default

  • We I complete a ride I make sure that I register which bike I use. I ride slow on my mtb and fast on my racebike.

I would like a feature i route planning, where I could choose which bike I plan the ride, and dependent on that bike's average speed, it calculated how long it would take. Maybe it even knew how fast I go on single track, gravel, paved road, and used that data to estimate my ride.

    Yours Jonas

  • I’d like to see an option to select E-Scooter please, they are becoming more and more popular, I ride mountain bikes and Eacooters, would love to be able to select e scooter as an activity, mine is on and offroad and does 100kmh so I can rack up the km easy.

    Hope this is added.

  • I’d like to request that bicycle chains as a subset of added gear (i.e. a bike) be allowed to send notifications like shoes do. The chain is a bike part that wears and can lead to severe damage of the rest of the drivetrain if not monitored.

  • How about getting creative when Title of Activity is generated. Currently whenever the activity is completed, Strava auto generates activity name such as Lunch Run, Morning Ride etc.

How about a feature that can detect a trail being walked on or a hike being followed on a mountain via a trail and then auto generate Activity Title like - Hike to Mt Washington via Tuckerman Ravine or "Walk at Boardwalk Cape Code Rail Trail"

This feature can also detect elevation and really get specific with title to include Ascent or Descent in the case of Mountain Hikes.

This feature will significantly improve user experience where users will go back and rewrite the title to be ver specific. It can also help them writing creative titles.

I have not seen this feature in any of Apps. It would be a value add. I always go back and replace title with specifics rather than just Morning Run or Lunch Hike etc.

Will look forward to hearing from you

    Anand

  • Do we have merge feature to merge 2 workouts ?

Problem: If I am on 10 hour hike that requires 4 hours ascent 2 hour break on the top and 4 hours descend, I want to create a workout activity for ascend then end the workout and then new activity for descend then merge 2 activities as a final activity. This will allow users to save tracking device battery

  • I want the Strava Routes to display the initial map around my recent routes instead of Washington D.C., if the user has location services turned off. I will allow me to quickly plan a new route. Its important to me because I don’t have to zoom out all the way from DC pan over to europe and zoom into Frankfurt again.

  • Could you please create a post or topic for "Sport Types". The purpose for this will be for feedback and features for a specific sport type. It will also be the place to suggest new sport types not yet supported on Strava.

  • Alpinism/Mountaineering to be added as a new sport category

There are several sports categories but nothing that is really suitable for mountaineering (i.e. climbing major mountain peaks involving a mixture of outdoor climbing, glacial traverse/crossing etc with technical equipment). The only category that is this can be currently classified under is 'Hiking'.

I just think this would be a simple but good addition to the sports categories for activities.

  • I track my field/team sports activities like soccer and lacrosse with Strava. However, I can only record them as “Workouts”. Can Strava consider adding team sports?

  • I think it would be usefull if you could improve the way to access all the photos uploaded with the activities. A good idea could be to create a web page where the photo are grouped by year / month, with a link to the related activity. At the moment, if I'm not wrong, we only have the possibility to browse the photos  through a "presentation".

    Thank you for your attention.

  • Section for Routes Ideas.

The routes features I need and have been asking for many years now are the simple ability to sort, filter and search by name, distance, maybe elevation and maybe distance from current location. I'm not the only one who has asked for these. It's actually often quicker to create a new route than try and find it in the hundreds you have saved. It's a real pain and bugs me every time

  • De-clutter feed please.

Being a NICA Coach, we require (our team, not NICA) our student athletes to have Strava for several reasons including having Beacon. Strava is an awesome tool to keep track of their riding.

Please consider giving us a 'switch' to hide and de clutter our feeds from the tons of junk you currently include-Challenges, who signed up for a challenge, and various clutter.

    Thanks!

  • It was a while since i asked for a simple feature like adding speed in running workouts - https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360073654892/comments/360014807351 and half a years later still no answer. Its not a difficult thing to add. i was realy hoping that strava can be better than endomondo was. Or at least as good as endomondo. Not happening this year i believe. Not to mention that strava is by default displaying moving time and not elapsed time even though i turned off autopause.... If i want full time of my workout then i turn off autopause. if i want moving time i will turn it on. That is why this feature exists....

can you introduce more monthly challenges for distances or have a variation of distance within the monthly walking challenge I.e

    Bronze 25 Miles
    Silver 50 Miles
    Gold 75 Miles
    Platiminum 100 Miles
    Diamond 125 Miles

As a dog Walker I normally complete the monthly challenge in around 7-8 days

Also walking challenges required...there are loads for cylists , runners etc

A good idea would be to add TRAIL RUNNING to the sports modality. We have hiking, and running that would be more flat.

The TRAIL RUNNING, or Mountain Trail, more accumulated slope is done in a positive way. These TRAILS, usually accumulate 1500 meters minimum in competition, and the times of a 21k, are usually 2h minimum.

  • I'd love to be able to set a default map type (e.g. elevation or speed)… and be able to hide heart rate by default on my recorded activities… it is tedious to scrub heart rate visibility from activities where I forget before I hit save, but I enjoy sharing the extra information about where I've been in my posts, and automating both those things would reduce the amount of time I spend fiddling with activity posts.
