How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • I don't fully understand why Strava allows activities like walking and hiking to be captured, but doesn't include them in any statistics, like "My Stats" in the My Profile. They're all lumped together in the "Last 4 Weeks" graph which is pretty much useless if "other activities" includes more than 1 activity. It seems like what's needed is a setting to let the user pick the activities they engage in. Then this radio button list could include those selections:

I've used Strava for cycling for years and it's great. But for hiking and walking it's not. It's a shame because all I want are the same statistics I get for cycling. The Training Log works for weekly totals, but that's it.

  • I would like the heatmaps subscriber feature to be expanded, particularly regarding commutes. I would like to be able to view three different versions of my heatmap:

    1. a heatmap of my commutes alone
    2. a heatmap of all rides not tagged as commute, and
    3. a combined view with both

Adding this feature would allow me to analyze my own commutes and training rides separately, as well as share commuting paths with coworkers, and share my favorite rides in a given area with friends without a bright red commute cluttering the map. Additionally, when shared, it would make a great advertisement for why Strava premium is worth paying for.

Also, on the topic of heatmaps, the ability to create a combined heatmap for all activity types would be of great value to me. At present, I use the heatmap feature to see where I have explored in my area and where I haven't and is one of the main reasons why I'm a Strava premium subscriber. Being able to combine biking and running on one map would make that experience more immersive. In addition, an "all activity types" filter would include other ways of exploring, such as hiking, walking, e-scooters, and roller staking, that are all currently ignored.

    Thanks!

    Dave

  • Where would I post a feature suggestion for the Android/iPhone apps? If there is not already a section of the Forum dedicated to this, could there be one created?

  • I would like default gears to be managed a little bit better. To only have one shoe for all foot based activities seems incorrect ( I don't use my running shoes for my walks, hike or gym). I would rather be able to set my default gear based on the sport/activity. this would accurately measure the distance used on the shoes more and give better timing to when you should retire your equipment instead of false positive. Being able to set the defaults per activity base would solve this quite easily i think.

I would also like the ability to report some route segments, whether they are simply 'bad' (I know this is subjective) or need some adjustments. There is one in particular for one of my running route that due to the GPS , is not attainable.

  • I'm a switcher from Endomondo, as it will be down soon. I miss some basic stats in strava I often used in Endomondo. In particular: calories burned (daily/monthly/yearly-view), weight tracking, best times for particular distances (10km/50km/100km....).

  • Mtb activity and heat map

it's important to split the ride activity between Road and Mountain bike because the time on the segment are totally different. It' great if you can retro change the old ride activity based on the model of the bike, if you add a additional  information on the bike (road and mountain) so every activy with a bike can split on the correct ride activity based on the tipe of bike or selected manually.

A other step can be to have different heat maps for road /mountain ride activity and on the course creator to have the automatic selection of the road based also with  the personal heat map ....so if i want to create a course that include a usual road or trail that ride with road/mtb bike  with the selection of personal heat map  i have the correct way .

    thanks

  • Please add kick/push scooters or foot bikes to the activites list within the Strava App!

I use a kick/push scooter (Swifty Scooters - SwiftyONE) for my exercises and workouts as well as an alternative to walking long distances - I’m an Above knee amputee and use my scooter to maintain my fitness levels and for my physiotherapy.

It’s so frustrating trying to log my exercises and distances covered as I do not use a bike or run. I would like to accurately record my kick/push scooter sessions. So please add kick/push scooters to the activites and gear.

I think in Europe they also called them foot bikes, These types of scooters are not e-scooters and can be used on different types of terrain as they have much larger wheels. They are a great form of exercise.

  • This was on the old forum, but I will add it here too. Please have the "Cycling" heatmaps include e-bike rides! Most of my 8000 miles this year are on e-bike. I have manually converted each activity to a "Ride" then update my all-time heatmap, then re-convert activity back to e-bike so it won't affect leaderboards for conventional cyclists. Other sites like StatsHunters and Wandrer count e-bike rides with cycling. Even the new Strava "Personal Heatmap" feature in the "Routes" area includes e-bike rides, so why not include it in the main heatmap area?

  • My idea would be that data from the STRAVA app can be merged with data from my Polar device. I want to use both: the STRAVA app for the Beacon, for attaching photo's and for quick sync to the STRAVA servers and my Polar Device for heartbeat, cadans and GPS independent speed. When I use both and sync my Polar account with my STRAVA account every ride is doubled. STRAVA should be able to detect that the same rider cannot ride at the same place and time twice and therefore merge the data. Especially adding the Heartbeat from my Polar to my STRAVA recording would be very usefull.

  • I like the "explore segment" feature, and use it freqvently. However I think it would be much improved if it was possible to select other activities than just running or cycling. There are other activities I would love to explore segments for, for example skiing. I know a lot of people who run and cycle during the spring, summer and fall, but then go crosscountry skiing in winter, so I think a feature like this would be much used and appreciated by the same users who now are exploring the map for cycling and/or running segments.

  • As a mountain biker I want to be able to tag rides as using a shuttle or uplift so that uphills are not counted when using a vehicle to drive up or a chairlift.

This is important because rides using an uplift service are being flagged and there is no method within strava to remove the uphill segments of a ride that used an uplift. It would also stop uphill segment KOMs from being taken be riders using an uplift service.

At its most basic any uphill on a tagged ride would be nulled or simply excluded from participating in segments. Perhaps a reasonable threshold for uphills could be set so that any uphill travelled by the rider over a certain amount of vertical meters would be annulled.

  • I would like to be able to set a preferred gear per activity type.

For example one bike for Zwift and one for outdoor rides....

    Thanks!

  • We have a growing segment of athletes that are using strava and GPS products to capture motocross and offroad motorcycle related activities.  I know Strava support recommends using ebike category when uploading motorized or motor-assisted activiities.  Would it be possible to add a motorcycle activity category.  Motorcycle (gas powered and electric), ebikes and MTB can share the same trails/segments and it would help differentiating while providing an accurate and level playing field for all users.  I know I will be gettting an ebike and want to use some of the same trails used by offroad motorcycles.

  • Show Battery Levels on Strava “Ride Upload” push notification.

There’s nothing worse than being out mid ride and either you’re bike computer or worse, your electric shifters run out of batteries. We all have our own little methods to try minimise that happening, but it still happens from time to time.

What I’d love to see is the battery levels for all of my devices (eg bike computer and group set batteries) shown on the Strava pop up message advising when a ride has been uploaded as this is the moment when you need to go back to your bike and start charging them. Other pop ups from those devices manufactures are helpful, but they often come up at times when you can’t do anything about it (like mid ride). it’s as you get off your bike that you really need this advice so you can do something about it straight away.

Let me know what you think!

  • Along with average GAP, which you're already reporting, it would be really nice to see the total distance that would have been covered at this pace (i.e., total moving time divided by average GAP). This is useful to know since it's roughly equivalent to the distance that would have been covered on flat terrain, which is good for training for a flat race, for example. This boils down to just adding one number to the summary of each activity, which could go right next to the average GAP.

  • Let's talk Socialisation!

While I am running or cycling, I meet along my route some other solo runners or road bikers.

assuming we are all connected with Starva, It would be great to mark myself in the watch the time I passed by other runner/biker and then to check in strava if this person would like to meet for a joined workout.   for this feature each user would indicate if he/she is visible for Socialisation workouts.

The workout session in strava will identify crossed paths by other users at the same time I did a workouts and suggest to contact only the users who enable visibility.

that is how we could create bigger and better communities that use strava for their workouts and get together.

  • The Beacon feature is good, but at the same time a bit difficult to use, and especially for those who will follow me while I do an activity.
It should be possible to follow me live via the app or via strava.com for those on the beacon-list.
    Here is why:
    1. If I send a message (SMS) to those who are on the beacon-list, they have to follow me via the mobile, since SMS normally go to a cell phone.
    2. If a person on the Beacon-list wants to follow me via strava.com on a computer, it is a very time consuming process, since the SMS have to be copied to a PC, and so on.
    3. There are unnecessarily many steps from I click on "send message" to those who follow me can actually follow. The whole process should be easier.

Overall, the Beacon feature was better on Endomondo, and it was free. But I like the Beacon feature on Strava beacuse it updates more frequently than on Endomondo, but at the same time I hope it can be simplified a bit, since this is the main reason why I have a subscription.

It's an important security feature, so it should be easy to use! Thanks!

  • Hi, I'm using Strava segments to measure FKT times in mountains environments and realized they are not very useful for that. A mountain track can go over snow and different surfaces and the actual path can vary from an ascent to the other so many times the segment is not recognized properly and the time is not recorded. It would be helpful, when creating a segment, to add an option to recognize only the starting and ending point of the segment, independently of the route taken (like the base and top of a mountain). This will allow to keep track of climbing times much more efficiently, not obliging the runner to take any specific route and it would fit much better what is actually done climbing a mountain. It could be called FKT segment or something like that.

Looking forward for an answer, thanks for your attention and best regards,

    Marco Regalia

  • It would be great if you would add "Ruck" to the sport options.

I work out with a group of about 2,000 people in my region (F3 Churham), with the majority of the people using Strava.  About 10% of the group, in addition to boot camp workouts, ruck on a regular basis.  Our group often has goals and challenges that pop up, but they get categorized into walks, hikes or some other activity.  It would be very helpful for us to be united under the ruck label so we can keep track of each other, train together and hold each other accountable through Strava the way we do with workouts.  Thank you for your consideration on this, we look forward to seeing Rucking in time for an annual challenge of 1,000 miles under Ruck in 2021!

  • Within the iPhone mobile app, would it be possible to allow users to designate a custom notification sound, other than the default iPhone "tri-tone" sound?  This matters to me because I like to keep up with my Strava notifications.  However there can be confusion in this regard, because many other apps play the default notification sound, and other phones in the area will also frequently make the same sound.  If I could assign a special tone unique to Strava on my phone, this confusion would be alleviated.  Thank you kindly for reading and considering this suggestion.

  • As a Minnesotan who often bikes on the same trails throughout the year, it would be AMAZING if we could use the same segments, but be able to filter efforts and personal bests by summer versus winter. This is important because I spend equal time in the summer and winter biking, but winter biking is inherently slower and it would be a lot more fun to be able to chase my (and others') winter (snowy) personal bests instead of knowing I will never come close to the summer (dirt/road) ones.

An example of when I needed this is pretty much every time I get on the fat bike in the snow. I'm super motivated by chasing my personal bests and this could be a great way to be able to do this all year round.

  •  I want to be able to view my miles per bike per year ie:  in 2020 I road 3700 miles and 300 were on my fat bike, 700 was on my mountain bike and 2700 was on the road bike. It will allow me to do track maintenance on my bikes and to see where I am spending more time/miles and I can compare each year against each other. Right now I can only see the overall miles for each bike for as long as they have been listed in my 'gear' list.

  • I am getting older, no more PR's for me. A great addition for us older folks, or in training would be to see our monthly PR's for different distances. Example, I run 15, 10k distances during the month of January. At the end of January my best 10k time during the month shows up. I am sure with all the info and algorithms you have it would be a very easy thing to introduce for us paid subscribers. And not just a 10k, but best efforts for whatever distances the user uses.

This would be much better for the user experience than having to scroll back thru each run and calculate how we did for each distance.

  • Can there not be feature changes to all wpeopl etc amend the 3 sports that have the tracking on the homepage? eg I cycle but don't run or swim, so I could change the run to hike or walk and the swim to say climb?

Also can we not create goals for other elements apart from just power, segments and distance? eg I want to do 6,000km / 230h / 55,000m elevation this year and would like to see my progress just like you can with the distance?

    Thanks

  • I want see 500m splits for rowing segments. We use them for training longer stretches (e.g. 4k) on the water. It will allow me to analyse splits (time per 500 m). The reason that is important is because with our rowing meters, we do not have the exact (=GPS) start and stop positions on the water, so we cannot compare attempts. An example of when I needed that was rowing this segment.
    Rowing splits are given in minutes:seconds per 500 m, e.g. 2:00 / 500 m

  • I would like the ability in the routing section to change the start point of another users route. I like the feature to explore others routes but then it would be so much better to change the start point to somehwere local and then for Strava to navigate to the nearest segment/section by giving it an alternative start point
