How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • I want to filter/differentiate the global heat map in the route planner based on what type of bike was used for the activity.

I have for instance 3 different bikes, for 3 diffrent kind of riding. The bike type value would come from My gear.

This feature would allow me to better select a good route based on what other riders with the same bike type have chosen to ride.

There are many times I misinterpret the global heat map and sometimes "bring a knife to a gun fight". This would let me have more fun on the bike by selecting the right one.

    ROAD SPECIFIC GLOBAD HEAT MAP

    MTB SPECIFIC GLOBAD HEAT MAP

CROSS BIKE SPECIFIC GLOBAD HEAT MAP

  • Add an option for shuttled/lift accessed mountain biking. This will solve many problems:

    1) Avoid issues with shuttled riders taking uphill KOMs

    2) Create an easy way to avoid unearned climb from counting to personal/challenge stats. Strava currently does not allow elevation from an activity to be excluded from stats (even when you intentionally pause during uphills). This could be separately fixed.

    3) Allow these types of activities to be recorded in one activity. Currently, many riders will split up activities into many and crop the shuttles. One activity that just ignores the uphills would solve this (it would be similar to the alpine ski mode, but include downhill mtb segments).

Many mountain bikers are loyal strava subscribers, but I think that will not last long with the current prices and the fact that trailforks is rapidly catching up in providing a comparable platform and actually gives a damn about mountain bikers and implementing features useful to them (versions of this simple feature have been posted for over 5 years on here)

  • Please recreate Route Builder. It's very clumsy editor to use, although heat map and accurate elevation data is great.

It must be able to split and merge multiple routes, and "turn by turn" should be naturally supported. ClimbPro preview will be greatly welcomed. Last but not least, waypoint is truly a MUST.

If you cannot recreate one, I think you should acquire quality route editting service like https://ridingazua.cc . I'm tired of drawing routes using Strava Route Builder.

  • Run Types are currently Long Run, Workout, or the default (nothing) option. I believe that adding "Recovery" as an option would be fantastic! This is key for days/weeks after a hard effort/race.

Additionally, adding "Easy" run could help (mentally) since that is what we are "supposed" to run 80% of the time that we run...

Being able to search our workouts by type would be key as well.  Currently I do not see the way to do this in the interface, although admittedly, sometimes things are different on PC versus App...and sometimes you have to backdoor to get to some things anyway...

  • "Voice Feedback is a feature to help you stay informed on your activity without needing you to look at the screen. It consists of audio cues and workout stats from our app through your device's speaker or headphones and is enabled by default.

To enable/disable voice feedback visit the app settings or "Workout Setup" screen by tapping the Settings icon in the upper right corner. The volume of the Voice Feedback mirrors the volume setting currently set on your phone. Intervals for voice feedback can be based on either time (30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 20 minutes) or distance (.1, .25, .5, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 25 miles or kilometers)."

I would like an audio announce feature that would tell me duration, distance, average mph, split mph.

I would love the selectable intervals to be 10 minutes, 20 minutes 30 minutes, 1 mile, 2 miles, 5 miles. This is the only feature that I still have to use MapMyRide for.

The feature would allow me to know how I am doing vs goals for an entire trip, not just a segment.  I know many people have their phone on their handle bars so they can visualize their time/distance but my phone is in my jersey.

  • John Bowers - You don't need the "flyby" feature to compare your own rides on a segment.  Just open the segment and use the "Compare" tool.  Select your efforts tab and select which ones you want to compare.  It will show you a graph of your progress through the segment and you will be able to see where the differences are.  Drag your cursor along the profile graph and you will see the different efforts on the map.

  • I want an option to tag an activity as "Warm up/Cool down". This would then not count the activity in my "number of runs" but still include the distance and time in my overall stats.

E.g. If I do a race, with a warm up and a cool down, that currently gets classed as three runs but I only see it as one.

Over the course of a week/month/year I like to calculate the average distance of a run but this number is skewed by shorter warm ups/cool downs.

  • I regularly use a scooter (push/kick scooter) to go to the shops or nearby friends and record these activities as it is great exercise and quicker than walking.  Could we please have a Kick Scooter sport type?  I'm sure I have seen this requested before...

It is frustrating when these more 'fringe' sports are not recognised by platforms.  The only platform I'm aware of that used to recognise kick scooters was Endomondo.

Maybe there is a way to have a 'generic' alternative transport activity type though this is not as refined as a dedicated activity.

  • Remove segment performance (time) from OWN results too
    Hi,
we know can remove a fake segment performance (example GPS signal drop) from the leaderboard by
    1) making the whole acivity private or
    2) flag the activity (own flag)
but how to actually remove that from own results too? Simply because I do not want to see fake results among my results too.

A workaround have found is to split the activity in the point/points where GPS drop occurred, this way the segment is completely missed, but that you can agree is a terrible workaround you should do something

    Regards

  • When I do intervals every speed interval is a lap on my watch (Garmin fr 935) and every recovery is also a lap.

In strava, all laps are displayed in a table. So far so good.

This table contains 6 columns, lapnumber, distance, time, speed, gap and heartrate.

Heartrate I don't understand. Is that maximum heartrate? Or is it average? Don't know.

But I do know what I want to see: for speed laps I want to see my maximum heartrate reached. For recovery laps I want to see my minimum heartrate.

The gap I'm not so interested in (I live in a rather flat country and do intervals on a track). It would be nice to configure the table, but at least be able to see both minimal and maximal heartrate. I want to see if I get the required effort and to see if I recover enough.

(al least strava is doing a better job than garmin. Garmin uses the more is more strategy and in their lap table where are a biljon columns, with useless info like temperate and calories used during that lap.)

  • Please add a filter for boat types for rowing

For rowing it would be very useful if a boat type can be selected. For comparison on segments the boat type makes a huge difference. For example an 8- is (or should be ;-)) always faster than a skiff (1x). So results on a segment are not comparable at the moment. And if you once rowed a segment in a 8x you will never improve your result by rowing in a skiff, this is quite frustrating if you really train hard in a skiff.  If we could select 1x / 2x / 4x / 8x / 2- / 4- or 8- we can track our results per boat and thus by team.

  • on the web version, it's odd that the default when you manually upload a run for the "hours" is automatically set to 1 and i have to delete it to make it 0.  do the majority of ppl really have runs of more than 1 hour that you need to set that as the default? intuitively i would think no, its a frustrating thing to have to delete every time and the string formatting isnt great

  • I would like to keep history of repairs / maintenance on my gear in Strava.

For example when I replace my outside tires on my bicycle, it would be nice to be reminder after 2.000 km’s that it’s time te replace them again.
Same with the chain. Would be good to be reminder after 4.000 km.

It can be combined with a commercial offer from your favorite cycle repair shop.

So, it would be nice if you can upload / fill in maintenance carried out (plus the receipt) into Strava, and map that to the mileage at that moment.

I assume not everybody wants to change their tires/chain at the same moment, so there should be a table that people can self-maintain. Like I’d like to be reminded every … km’s about replacing my ….

In combination with commercials offers from bike-vendors, plus the extra service it provides for Strava-endusers, plus the 5% (for example) Strava receives for sells via their website, it can be interesting for all parties.

  • Can Strava break out biking options on the app? I would suggest matching the various types of biking that people do. E.g., road, MTB, and gravel as a start. The app does this already with different types of skiing. Users would be excited to see more biking types as options.

  • I would very much appreciate a Draft-function, one that saves a Stopped activity, maybe only once the Confirm-dialogue (where you set a title for the activity and set how exhausting it was) is brought up, in a file to back up the activity until the upload has been confirmed by the server. Aside from possible connection/transmission issues, the most relevant problem this would solve is device crashes if the device has a worn battery.

Opening up the phone and opening the app results in a processing-power-spike on the device, and the more worn out a battery is, the less able it is to handle the sudden high demand - even more so in cold temperatures. Even with just one year old phone batteries it can happen that a device with 20% battery power left can't handle being unlocked and navigated in cold weather, maybe you even had a navigation-app open which demands particularly much processing power and increases the chances of a crash even further.

An older and frequently used phone's battery might drain even just over the course of one 2 hour activity if the phone is being pulled out and used just once or twice, maybe in order to look up a map, message someone or take a photo. The phone will then still work once the user gets home, but it will crash before the activity can be submitted to the server because by the time you opened the Confirm-dialogue, set your activity's title etc and pushed the submit button, the phone has been under high demand long enough for a worn battery to crash.

I've had this happen several times, and while I carry a mobile battery & cable for emergencies, I don't always connect them (because that's uncomfortable and makes it harder to move freely) and also don't always see that I need to because, again, a phone's battery percentage can be high and the phone would still crash. I lost several activities, personal records and specific, valuable data to this because Strava has all the data my activity entailed, but didn't save or upload it until I hit the Submit-button. Those precious few seconds could be used to push the data from RAM into a small file just in case anything happens before or during the submission of the data, and if the file is incomplete before the crash, that could easily be checked and the file then deleted.

This extra failsafe could save a lot of users a lot of frustration, and the implementation shouldn't be too hard considering it's just raw data that would be saved (the processing doesn't have to happen beforehand).

  • Customizable "Goals" display on profile?

I'd like to have a goals summary window that is customizable somwhere. I currently have "effort, run, cycle and swim" as 4 tabs.

I cycle, walk and swim - so I can't easily see how much I walked in a week, how far am I away from the goal.

I assume some other users will swim and row, or some other combination of sports.

Can you make this customizable, and can "walk" be part of the "sports" so walkers can quickly see how much they walked from the main profile page?

    Thanks

  • Default Equipment by Data Source / Sensor

I use a different bike for indoor training vs. outdoor. Would be great to have default equipment tied to specific sensors or data sources. For example, if I record a ride on TrainerRoad or Zwift, Strava should know to select my default indoor bike/trainer/smart bike. For outdoor rides recorded on a Garmin/Wahoo, Strava should know to select my default road bike. Would be great to ensure proper tracking of equipment usage.

  • Today I got a notification that I should replace my shoes. Then I asked myself the question; 'what was the average pace on this shoe'? I got some easy run shoes - tempo day shoes - race shoes etc. So I thought how nice it would be not only see how many miles/km's you ran in them, but also the average pace per shoe.

Would be a nice/ fun add I think!

  • I am hoping Strava is working to integrate rear traffic radar detector Garmin Varia RTL515 into one of cycling screens. Ride with GPS app has integrated it.  It is a great for riding safety.  Informs you of vehicles approaching and rates the threat based on speed of vehicle.

  • I am considering changing to RunKeeper who offer a workout option. this allows you to customize a workout and have audio prompts. I am a paid up member of strava, and would find it a bit annoying to have to switch when generally what i want is on strava. (or the present option of doing some runs in strava and the training runs in runkeeper which is annoying)

  • When will you add new sports in the list? Now we can only choose Ride, but there is a big difference between Cycling and Mountainbike. So you can choose between Walk or Hike; Alpine ski, Nordic ski or snowboard. With Garmin you have a lot more choice, maybe to much.
I'm a mountainbiker, so it would be nice I could select Mountainbike instead Cycling when I go off-road.

  • Would love to see the ability to post a time restricted video with your activity. Additionally, an ability to set the map on your posts to satellite (or better yet 3d like the heat map) as your default for posts would be awesome too.

  • Multiple activity groupings as a 'Tour'

It would be nice to have a tour feature which groups activities together. If I go out and do a cycle/hike/cycle each activity uploads separately and clogs up my feed and my followers' feeds. If you could select these activities as part of a 'tour' and stitch the maps together it could be pretty neat, whilst still allowing the stats of each individual activity to be viewed.

It would also be good for multi-day cycling or hiking tours so you can see the overall route. And for triathletes

Maybe it would have to require subsequent activities to start where the previous activity ended or something like that.

  • I use a treadmill for hill workouts in winter. It would be great if the app allowed you to enter elevation on your manual activity. The website allows this function, it’s just simpler to create a manual activity on the app.

  • It would be great to have a “Recovery” option for run type workouts; while race/workout/long run are useful this is the other major type missing and it would make it easier to compare like-for-like pace and effort.

  • It would b nice to b able 2 post pics on the comments section. Ya know. I know it takes up storage. I would pay $1/yr more 2 have this option. This and the uploading of short videos on ones home page would be the "most bestest" thing u could do for an upgrade.

I know now after seeing this forum that this is a useless endeavor. O well

  • I would love to have the official cycling routes from https://www.schweizmobil.ch/en/cycling-in-switzerland.html included in Strava Routes. To be able to select part in my planning as mostly this routes are well signalled and more secure.
