Strava stopping mid-ride

Since the latest Android update (currently on 6.0.1), my Samsung Galaxy S5 stops recording randomly during rides. Happened at least two times in each ride since then. Very frustrating. It is not an auto-pause issue, as I tried turning auto-pause off and the problem still persists. I also don't have any energy saving mode turned on. Any tips on how to avoid this are very welcome.

Please troubleshoot your phone's GPS. For specific Huawei phones, there are additional troubleshooting steps.

  • I've had something similar with my HTC One M8.  2 rides on Friday 23/09/16 and my ride this morning, Monday 28/09/16 were affected.

Whilst the screen is on, it seems to record ok, but once the screen goes off Strava seems to pause.  I've turned the auto-pause off, but it still occurred on today's ride.

(Strava version is 5.3.0, Android version is 6.0.1)

  • Yeah, this has also started happening to me in the last week or two. HTC One M8. When the issue occurs (and it's occurred 3 out of the last 5 activities I've recorded) it only appears to update your position when you pull the phone out and focus the Strava app. During the rest of the activity it's not been recording your position. Very frustrating!

    Strava 5.3.0 and Android 6.0.

  • This just happened to me today and I am on ios 9.35 (iPhone) Lost the last 20km of my ride. Pretty annoyed about it.

I even checked to make sure the timer re-started, when I headed off from a water bottle fill, stop. Got home to see that the thing stopped recording as soon as I had put the phone back in my pocket.

  • This has started to happen with my Samsung Galaxy S7, which was working perfectly until recently... Twice now I checked the phone and put it back in my pocket and it stopped even though it was working.

    Exactly the same symptoms.

  • Same here s7. Another app I have running at the same time when out (Outdoor map navigator) continues recording position correctly, so it's not a gps or system issue, purely Strava's low quality app. I'm sure they'll ignore fixing this core functionality and add some new features instead, it's the strava way.

  • Hi, I am using the Android app -- after 99% success rate for capturing runs/activity, I've now had Strava "crap out" at almost the same point of a regular walk route. I walk the same route for a 3.4 mile walk around our campus, and the last two days it has quit at almost the same spot. Could this be a bug? Very annoying...

  • Hi,

Strava stopped at 67.7 kms, but I rode on for probably another 15/20 kms. The ride shows a straight line from 67.7 kms to my home. I cannot fly. Is there a way I can add the missing kms? I'm trying to complete the January distance Challenge, so all the kms I do are important.

    Please help!

    Kind Regards,

  • Hello

I have a new cell a Huawei P9 Lite and since I've installed Strava on it. The app crashes in almost every workout I track.

I have deactivated any flag: high consumming app, timeouts, secure mode, etc. But the App still crashes.

Please, is there any way to solve it? or must I uninstall it and start using other Sports Tracking app?

    Thank!
