Strava stops recording mid ride

1st time this has happened in quite a while. Stopped for coffee half way; Strava stopped completely. Same thing happened to riding partners android 3 days ago, along the same route.

  • It seems like their worthless android app gets worse and worse with each update. My Android app stopped 1' 32" into my gym workout today. Auto-pause was disabled and there was a good GPS visibility. Garmin Connect and/or RidewithGPS are more and more becoming my goto apps. 'Challenge Badges' are not worth paying Premium Membership for.

If it sounds like I am bitter, yeah. I am! This bullshit has been going on for far too long now. Personally, if i was managing the team of SW developers that work at this company, they would be EX-SW developers.

  • I just did a 9mi run and every time I took the camera out to take a photo, I could see it still in the background (I know not to actually open the app mid ride as the gps will fail and I'll end up with a straight line on the map!). I got the the end and when I went to save it, the app was closed or had quite. Usually when it crashes it 'recovers from a problem and has continued recording' this time I have nothing, nothing! I can upload a new manual run and when I go to select photos, it has the ones that 'were taken during activity' - so it knows I had strava running... where is the recording!?

  • I've had the same issue as Natasha start recently. Strava appears to still be running, but it will be missing portions of data and have a message about it recovering. Also, I would expect that Strava simply assumes any photos taken between the start and end time of the activity are likely candidates to be attached to the activity (it doesn't tag them in some special way to know they are part of the activity). I updated all applications and did an Android restart but I'm a bit gun shy about losing data so I have been recording a backup GPS track with a running watch. I miss the days where I trusted my phone to be accurate!

  • I have found no solution. It's almost like some Android update has caused memory management to go all haywire. Almost any application that I background on my Nexus 5X seems to get pushed out of memory. I would expect an application like Strava to be able to "hold" or request memory while recording so it isn't unloaded, but maybe something has changed and the Android OS is no longer honoring that request.

A stop-gap measure is, whenever you access your phone (take a picture, message someone, anything that causes the current application in focus to change away from Strava) to then make sure to go back to Strava again. If it was unloaded from memory, it can/will resume. But, I am not 100% sure all of the recording gaps come when I interact with the phone - though it seems predictably so. Taking a picture is a sure-fire way to generate the issue.

It's very strange because my phone shows plenty of memory available. I run pretty bare-bones and have very few things installed on my stock Android OS. Is everyone having this issue on Android? If so, perhaps we should post our versions. I am on 7.1.2.

  • My past 4 rides have been completely missed. Strava starts recording, then fails. I'll ride for an hour or more, and it says I've ridden 1 minute and has no real record of where I've gone. An occasional failure was common in the past, but was overcome by shutting down any open apps before riding. Now nothing works.

  • Hi!

I was using Strava in my Galaxy J7 with an old version and it was working very well.

Now I have a Moto G5 + and Strava is losing all data, the current version is 14.0.0 and Android 7.0.

    See the picture:

    I lose 3 records already.

Please help me to solve this issue.

    Best regards.

  • Past three rides haven't recorded. The first one recorded about one mile and then stopped . The next two didn't record at all. I'm using an i5 phone and everything worked fine since March. Uninstalled the app and reinstalled and that didn't help either.

  • Hi!

I did a downgrade to version 11 and it worked again.

    I'll keep testing it.

APK source if someone is interested: https://www.apk4fun.com/apk/146332/

    Best regards.

  • It is not working again.

There's some problem with pause system on Moto G5+

After a pause the trip doesn't start again.
