Settings to hide Zwift trainer rides in feed

Is it possible to hide all the Zwift rides within a Strava feed?  It feels like it's turning Strava into a video game.  There should be an available setting to hide Zwift/trainer rides out of the daily feed.

  • Yes, please allow indoor rides to be filtered out. I am sick of seeing these in my feed.

  • Yes, please hide Zwift and other virtual rides from my feed.  I would be willing to pay for this service.

  • there are better social media for video games.

  • I want to filter out the indoor rides as well.  All of the commentary and disdain for these rides should move this beyond a "consideration" and into a required changed.  I'm just a lowly premium user so what do I know?

  • Over two years worth of posts requesting this, and no action so far.  It's become obvious that Strava and Zwift have more in common than the orange color theme...there's apparently some quid pro quo going on between the two companies

I've stopped following several of my friends, which makes me sad.  Some have really gone over the edge and are riding trainers in the garage to complete some mythical "tour of Sufferlandria" even when the weather outside is plenty tolerable.  I'm not discounting the difficulty and worthiness of trainer rides, but this whole video game aspect has really taken it into the realm of "not cycling."  So long as Strava continues to let them rack up mileage and elevation, we're left to be frustrated with screenshots of their "race".

So I guess our alternative is to start discussing other platforms.  I'm liking RideWithGPS.com.  It's pretty easy to pull your Strava history into it,  And although it doesn't have the social component of Strava, it's got a lot of other nifty features.  It works a lot better than Strava for finding routes in unfamiliar areas.  And I also like the interface for creating and mapping routes better

Does anyone else have other suggestions for a Strava alternative?  I hate to walk away from this platform after using it for the past several years, but I've just about had it with their lack of transparency and inaction on this Zwift issue.

  • Hey Mike, thanks for describing exactly how a lot of people feel.
I joined Strava club's now who throw out the people who are riding virtual crap. It helps a lot, but still I feel f.cked up by the virtual crap. Now Strava threw out the explorer map also it seems to be that Strava has nothing more to offer for mountainbikers. But I think it's worth fighting for a bit of recognition now from Strava.

So the question to Strava is: are you guy's going to do something for us, the people who like to ride bikes outside as cycling or mountainbiking is ment to be???
Please give us an answer Strava!!!! You can not ignore us!!!!!!!!!

  • I would definitely agree the increasing popularity of Zwift is very annoying for the activity feeds. Probably more than anything it's not the nature of the activity but it's the useless maps and screenshot 'pictures' that come along with it that. They all look the same and they're all over the news feed. Allowing us to block pictures from zwift rides would be a big help.

  • I now have two Strava accounts - one because I need strava to use zwift (yes the tie in is that close), the other because my real world riding buddies don't want to see my virtual stuff.

  • Same here - despite hating Zwift in my feed, I don't hate it as it's one of the few things that makes indoor training tolerable for me... but I have a second account that most of the folks who follow my "real" account know about -- and maybe 5 or 6 folks followed my fake rides account. Gives a pretty clear indication how many folks actually wanna see Zwift crap in their feeds.

  • Yes, please. Let us be able to filter away everything but actual road or off-road rides. I don't want to see Zwift-rides, runs or gym sessions in my feed.

  • Please update the official "i'll do my best to get this considered..." line with a commitment as to when we will be able to filter out plastic miles. I respect the effort and training benefit in Zwift, TrainerRoad etc, but this makes the feed unusable.

I've downgraded to free membership until this is sorted out.

  • I defenitly need this feature. My feed is spammed with video game "activities". It's a mess!

  • Yeah, I think we are all starting to vote with the feet on this one.  I've deleted Strava from my phone.  Still using it in the browser, with client side tools for filtering out the zwift...

By the way, Strava recently started allowing zwift to count towards challenges - *sigh*

  • Let's keep these complaints coming until we see a reaction from Strava. Last official comment is from late 2017 and there has been multiple app updates since, so it should not be a problem for Strava to comment on which upcoming release will address this issue

  • They are clearly not getting around to this so I just use uBlock Origin and add rules to get rid of the suggested athletes, zwift rides, etc.

Example filter (uses uBo ":has()", but looks like adblock plus has similar capabilities) to get rid of virtual activities - zwift in this case which has a icon-virtualride for the activity:

      strava.com##div.activity:has(span[class*="virtual"])

Hides any "activity" div elements that contain a span element with a class including the word "virtual".

  • I've voted the only way that I thought might gain any traction - I cancelled my premium membership which I've had since soon after I signed up in 2011.

    > By the way, Strava recently started allowing zwift to count towards challenges - *sigh*

Well, since Strava isn't commenting here, I guess that's the clearest answer we're going to get. Not only are the virtual rides not going away, looks like they're doubling down on legitimizing them. Faaaaaantastic. I guess the next step is when they decide to be helpful and filter out those pesky "outdoor" "real" rides for us.

  • Thanks @Mojo Monkey, that's a good way to deal with this problem.  I was using a bookmarklet before, but I think I'll switch to a filter in uBo.

  • I'm stunned this still hasn't been rectified. Obviously, there's some sort of corporate relationship with Zwift, Trainer Road etc to continue including virtual rides. How about some actual transparency Strava. Please explain why this simple feature to not include virtual rides in our feeds had not been implemented. It's been requested for some time now.

  • My simple solution is to just unfollow my friends that post virtual rides, which is a bit sad but effective.

  • I canceled my premium membership because of this and I'm constantly unfollowing users sharing plastic miles. I don't like this solution, but it's the only way to get rid of this virtual crap.

  • I ride mtb, road and now zwift at night. I don't care for running though.

I would like to be able to share certain rides with certain people because clearly (and I understand why) not everyone is as excited about my latest race/workout in my garage. There are others and plenty of them that are interested in seeing these and kudoing them spread all over the world so we are not likely to be able to ride together anywhere else.

The same can be said for some MTB rides or exploration where the route and the photos are what I am sharing.

And dont get me started on running.

The ability to privately share secret trails/segments would be cool too.
