Screen Overlay Detected Android 6.0.1

I recently purchased a new Samsung S7 and am having trouble getting Strava to use location services to find my location on the map - every time I go to Segment Explorer it takes me to San Francisco.

It is telling me to enable location settings in my permission settings, when I go to permission settings, there isn't a Strava button to toggle.

Anyone experienced this and have a solution?

  • I ran into this last night with another app, you'll have to disable/close anything that dims or colors the screen (Twilight in my case) and apps with popover things like Facebook Messenger.

  • I get the same message in the Strava app when I try to add a photo to an activity.  This is new for me within the last week or so as I know it worked on 11/18.  It first asks to allow Strava permission to files, then give this message and says to turn off screen overlay.  Screen overlay is already turned off for Strava (in fact it can't be turned on).

  • i am having the same issue. i have turned off all other screen overlays (not happy at all that i have to do that.) and it still wont allow me to do anything. whatever they updated broke the app for me completely.

  • I don't recall seeing an update come through on my phone, but I can now turn off screen overlay on all the other apps on my phone.  Previously it was only showing two apps with overlay enabled and I could not turn it off.  If I turn them all off (was on for about 1/2 dozen or so apps) I can add photos to activities.

  • hey guys, i found a workaround. install an app called "install button unlocker" it will bypass the useless block put in place by the OS and allow you to turn location services and other permissions on for this app and many more. unfortunately this is not a strava bug it is a "security feature" built into marshmallow and it has gone awry affecting many more apps. hopefully google is working on a legit solution

  • Google pushing out a "feature" without properly testing... ...surprise, surprise.
