New post ideas

This is the place to suggest new post ideas.

As you know, we made some changes to our forum that will enable our small team to do a better job of engaging with you. One of these changes was controlling the creation of new posts and topics. If you cannot find a thread under which to post your comment, you can suggest a new post idea here.

Please make sure to 'upvote' the comments below that you'd like to see as individual topics.

How to format your new idea and/or feedback:

Feedback that is actionable and constructive is most effective. When sharing, please consider the following when framing your thoughts:

  • If you have a new idea, it's helpful for us to understand why that feature is important for you and the value it will bring. For example: I want __. It will allow me to do ___. The reason that is important is because of ___. An example of when I needed that was ___.
  • Specific examples and details that illustrate the problem/confusion you are experiencing. For example: When I do ___, then ___ happens and that is not ok because ___.
  • Screenshots that help visually illustrate the problem. For example: Here is a picture illustrating my point ___ from above. See how ___ is doing ___?
  • An explanation of why this is important. For example: This is important to me because ___.
  • If you propose a solution, an explanation of how that solution would help you and why that is important. For example: I think a ___ would be great because then I could see ___. This is important to me because I have to ___.

If someone has already suggested the same idea as you, you can help us quantify the demand for the feature or improvement by upvoting the original comment. To upvote, click the up arrow on the right-hand side of the comment.

  • Location based default gear

I want to be able to have my bike automatically selected based on the start point.

The reason its important is because I use different bikes for different activities, and with my varied types of biking, I'm forever changing what bike I use for each activity.

Usually when I bike from home, I only use 1 of 2 bikes, but when I drive to a start point, ie a mountain bike park, I use 1 of 2 other bikes.

How I could see this working is by using the existing ability to add addresses, and setting the default bike for that address, so if I start from within 1km of home, it defaults to my road bike, but if I start within 1km of my mountain bike park, it defaults to my mountain bike.  If however I start from an unspecified address, it defaults to my existing default bike using the current settings.

I could see this benefiting many others, as many specific bicycle disciplins use specific bikes, ie criterium, downhill, even triathalon all use very specific bikes that may differ from their standard bike.

  • Suggest adding features for Rowing and Kayaking

Add the following to parse the Data

    1. Indoor vs Outdoor Rowing
    2. Outdoor Rowing Boat Types: Flatwater Sculling - Single (1X), Double (2X) & Quad (4X).  Flatwater Sweep - Pair (2-), Four (4+) & Eight (8+).  Coastal: Single (C1X), Double (C2X) & Quad (C4X)
    3. Sex: Male, Female and Mixed.
    4. Age Groups: Under-15, U-17, U-19, U-23, Open, Over-26, O-35, O-42, O-49, O-54, etc.
    5. Boat Line ups:

Adding these subcategories would make the segments and leaderboards more useful and motivating.  Rather than having every segment dominated by some person rowing in a Men's Open Eight.  If the team line ups could be implemented, coaches could use the data to analyze who moves boats the fastest.  Kayaking could also use these features.

  • PLEASE consider adding "Motocross" as an activity option.  E-Bikes are not equivalent to a gas-powered motorcycle.  Many of us MXers train on mountain bikes, but it would be nice to use Strava for our motos as well. Thanks.

  • Adding waypoints in a already saved route:

I want to adjust an already saved route by adding waypoints between the starting and end point, to be able to adjust the route more specifically.

Is that currently possible? I cannot find an option to do so.

  • New Activity Type Request:   Add Electric Skateboarding as an activity type.

I use this app. to track routes, distances, elevation change, speeds, time in motion stats of my sessions riding my electric skateboard.   A typical session for me is between 20-40 miles with thousands of feet of elevation gain/climbs.  Total time in motion for each ride is between 90 and 210 minutes....hours of carving up city streets and windy mountain roads.

E Skaters already use the app to track and share rides.  There is a Bay Area Eskate group on the app that tracks activities under the E-Biking activity type.  I'm sure there are similar groups in many cities doing the same thing.  I think most anyone tracking their elec skateboarding rides on Strava chooses the E-Biking activity as it's the closest type of activity, or at least the only other motor-assisted activity type available to choose on Strava currently.

I understand that because motors are involved with electric skateboarding and e biking those activities are fundamentally different in nature than the other activity types most everyone uses Strava to track. Nonetheless,  there is a steadily growing community of folk that ride electric skateboards who want to track and share their activities/sessions, routes, top speeds and durations with their fellow skaters and their friends on Strava tracking & sharing their activities... whatever activity type that may be.

It would be wonderful if electric skateboarding was listed in the activity types.

  • Please, add a new activity to app Strava  - Nordic Walking. This is activity is very popular inthe World but different from usual walking.

Прошу добавить вид активности в приложение, как скандинавская ходьба с палками. Этот вид спорта очень популярен в мире.

  • In Perfil - My Equipaments - Components: "A New Field - Hours"

Em Perfil - Meus Equipamentos - Componentes "Um novo campo - Horas"

    •  I want a new field to show how many hours the components have, for example "the fork Suspension" had 1000 hours (after his added in Equipament)
    • The reason that is important is because of many components use "time/hour" for control index maintenance instead Km´s or miles
    • An example: when I need know when do maintenance in Manitou Suspension I need to put all the activities in a Excel spreadsheet to calculate the time elapsed .

I think this control help all users that use the resource equipament actively.

  • Indoor track cycling activities recorded without GPS are showing correctly in Garmin, TrainingPeaks and other platforms correctly, i.e. using Moving Time (ignoring the time the Garmin head unit was auto paused). However, Strava shows the same activity with Elapsed Time and it is not possible to change this. The request is for a simple toggle button that enables the user to switch between Elapsed and Moving Time.

  • I am requesting an additional feature.  The ability to fine tune what we see in our Strava feed.  I am a cyclist.  I only want to see cycling activities in my feed.  I don't want to see walking or hiking activities that my group (followers / following) posts.  I don't want to rely on them changing their feeds to private.  I want to be able to say that I want to see cycling but nothing else.  And possibly a filter for virtual rides vs. outdoor rides such that we can filter out the virtual rides.  Thanks.  The information is readily available already in Strava and all that is needed is some feed filter (patent!)

  • *OPZIONI PRIVACY PER CLUB SOLO SU INVITO*

    Salve,

    Grazie mille!

    🇬🇧🇺🇸

    * PRIVACY OPTIONS FOR CLUBS BY INVITATION ONLY *

    Hello,
I created a cycling club only with some of my friends, with the "by invitation only" option.
After I uploaded various activities, I noticed that the leaderboard is public: you can see how many kilometers I have done in two weeks, and what was the longest ride I have done.
I would like to have more privacy control for clubs too, so that other people don't see anything but the club name and photo.
I think it's a contradiction - in my case - that if I block a person, they don't see my activities, but if they find the club I have created, they can see how long I have ridden.

I kindly ask you to add toggles for this option, in order to give more privacy to small clubs that want to share *with each other * the activities made.
    Thanks so much!

  • By now, two-factor authentication should be standard on online and social media platforms. Via https://www.dongleauth.com/, I notice that the STRAVA competitors don't do it either. But is that a reason not to do it? Wouldn't it be better if STRAVA took the lead on this issue as well?

I would love to see 2FA on STRAVA soon!

Is the 2FA already in planning and if so, when can we expect it?

  • rope jumping

Hi, I would love to have an option to select rope jumping to the activity list.

I had my hip replaced 8 months ago, so I cannot run, but I can do sipping, It's the closest I have to running now,  and it would allow me to record my progress much better and even better if I could add this as a group challenge

  • It would be great if I could download data older than 30 days from my Apple Watch.  I am not sure why that limitation exists, and it is annoying as I missed a couple of weeks in December when I had a few hundred other things going on.  Is there a workaround that does not involve me adding the workouts manually?

  • Why are kickbikes/footbikes not included on your activity list?

They are great tools for reaching peak fitness and also a great sport per se.

I hope one day to see them on your list!

    Thanks.

  • I want Strava to provide a DARK MODE for the app. It will allow me to use my phone for MUCH LONGER on rides. The reason that is important is because the absurd WHITE SCREEN on a bright day chews through anyone's battery VERY QUICKLY. An example of when I needed that was recently when I was riding FAR FROM HOME and my iPhone 12 Pro (which I use to navigate) went DEAD from all of the excessive screen luminosity. This seems to be an EASY FEATURE TO ADD, it is a current trend, not some rare outlier. PLEASE bring Strava into the new millennium and give us DARK MODE!

  • I've found that Strava does not visualize correctly Apple Watch swimming activities recorded with the Workout app. Apparently, Strava counts resting time between laps as an extra lap. Next, I'm attaching an example activity that shows the problem in further detail:

This is how the activity shows in the Fitness app:

However, this is how it shows in Strava:

And this is the corresponding fit file:

  • In addition to Simon P.'s comment regarding Zwift activities, there should be an option to filter your feed by any activity type. My feed has become littered with Peloton or Tonal activities, which users often upload multiple short, back-to-back activities of. Stava recently added the ability for users to not publish their activities to feeds. Please add the opposite functionality so we can filter out these types of activates and use Strava as the social platform it was originally intended.

  • Gear Sorting in Android App

In the online version of Strava my gear is sorted alphabetically. In the app is sorted after distance. I you have many running shoes it can be 'difficult' to finde a shoe if it is sorted after distance.

For me it would be a improvement, if the gear is sorted alphabetically. I know wich brand the shoe is. But I don't know the distance I used it.

  • I would like the recently appeared map layer with 'points of interest' and 'starting points' to be optional. I use the maps for route planning and in my area the maps have become so cluttered up with information for which I have no use that planning a route becomes impossible.

  • It would be great to have the option to repeat the 1/2 mile and 1 mile verbal updates TWICE rather than once.  when we are running long distance..its easy to not be focused when the female voice tells us distance and time... repeating it a 2nd time would be very helpful

  • I don’t see an existing topic within the forums where my suggestion might fall, so I am adding it here.

For activities that come from an external source, I would like for there to be a way to automatically set the Activity Type and Gear based on the source. For example, when I record my activity in my Garmin bike computer, I want to use Ride as the activity type and use my road bike as the gear. If on the other hand I ride on a Peloton spin bike, I would prefer that to log as Virtual Ride (unless you can add a new “Spin” type) and set the gear to my spin bike. This would allow me to more easily track accurate mileage for each activity and more importantly, for each piece of gear. At present, I have to edit all of my Peloton activities to modify the type and gear.

  • Hey Tom Benzaia what you’re looking for isn’t available on Strava at this moment. We appreciate the suggestion. There is, however, a useful 3rd party site that does a great job with automations based on rules you create. I have one set up that assigns my trainer bike as the gear for every virtual ride I upload. Take a look and see if it helps.

  • SPORT SPECIFIC HRmax and HRzones

Why not include the ability to have sport specific HRmax/zones in your profile. Cycling to Running can be 10bpm difference or more, never the same. Making HR stats/analysis using your platform redundant for athletes training multiple disciplines. A 5min search of the literature supports this. Something Garmin, Suunto and others have included for years.
