Feedback for the updated Strava feed

We are excited to share with you a project that we've been working on for the past year - a new way to experience the Strava feed.

The feedback you've been sharing with us about better ways to sort and filter the feed has not gone unnoticed. The feed fuels the power of our community and is where athletes inspire and interact with each other. We discovered that on average Strava athletes miss almost 60% of the content in their feed every day. Strava's new feed presents a non-chronological ordering of activities based on characteristics we think are most valuable to you.

Here's how it works:

When you refresh your feed, any content you haven't seen before will be at the top of the feed, above activities you've already seen. The order in which these new items appear is based on a learning algorithm that uses your past behavior to gauge whether you'll find content interesting. Comment a lot on your sister's activities? Her items will be ranked highly for you. Your friend just ran their best time for a 10K? That will get promoted as well. The algorithm will continue to evolve over time, learning as you use it. We won't hide any activities from you - they'll all be in your feed, just in a different order designed to ensure you don't miss the items that matter most to you. You can read more on our blog.

We will be slowly releasing the new feed over the coming weeks, along with close monitoring of performance and your feedback. You are welcome to add to the discussion below or contact us directly by submitting a ticket.

  • Big dislike from me. +1 for option to enable/ disable.
I fear Strava is heading the way of LinkedIn in becoming a social media platform. I, for one, don't want this (hate Linkedin now) and it would be sad to see Strava lose its brilliance.

  • No one wants an explanation of how it works or your justification for it. Please make it chronological or I don't want to see it at all.

  • I DO NOT like this new non-chronological timeline. (I also don't like it on Facebook and Instagram).

I understand your reasoning but I think the best option is to give the user the choice of which sort ordering they would like.

  • I haven't had an issue with the order of activities. I check a few times a day, and the people I'm following don't post more than one or two times a day, so it still appears to be chronological to me. That said, there should be a choice in how it appears.

As far as the featured athletes, this seems like a waste of resources. I followed Laura Fleshman. You do realize she barely uses the app, right? Take a look at her activities of the past year. They are few and far between.

There are other improvements that could be made. I have been hoping weather could be added to the data. Maybe add the ability to group activities so if I do a pre race run and a post race run, I won't feel bad about cluttering up my followers feeds?

  • Seriously who cares yet another example where your working on something that a majority of the user base don't want or need. Start listening to us give us the things we want, return the black user face or at least make it optional, return the feed back to chronological. realise I'm wasting my time here as you will just ignore this like you do over all the other negative feedback, time to cancel premium straw that broke the camels 🐫 back! Strava is or should not be Facebook!

  • This is not required - not desirable even.

    Chronological is absolutely fine.

All we need is the ability to filter out challenges and commutes.

  • I do not like the current non-chronological format and I hope they change it back to the prior chronological format.

  • I have cancelled my premium after a query through support page, they don't care and this could have something to do with it. They've hired a former Facebook and instagram exec as the new CEO http://www.triathlonbusiness.com/2017/industry-news/strava-names-instagram-exec-james-quarles-as-its-new-ceo/

Did a bit of search for power related stats site and found this one, I just imported 4 years worth of activities no probs
    https://www.cyclinganalytics.com and cheaper than premium

  • Strava is/was the platform sports people/athletes wanted and this was created around that need and the reason it has expanded as such
Strava listen to the voice of your users or loose your support forever
keep one membership as it is and offer choices

  • Please give me the option for a chronological feed.

If they wont listen to our support requests, maybe they will signal a strava club ?

  • Just adding my voice to others requesting that there remains a chronological feed option, please listen to the overwhelming user response on this. There are lots of other feed enhancements which could be made, for example allowing filtering of the feed by: distance/time/speed of ride, number of riders, chosen riders, covering chosen segment, name of ride, etc. This would allow easy searching of your previous rides or searching of other athlete's rides for route finding.

  • Never heard of those 36 athletes and don't care. What I do care about are my friends. Too bad I can never find their posts. What this entire mess has made me realize is that you've made me not care about anything on here any more. You have driven me away, as with others. And what truly amazes me if that you don't care about what your customers actually want. So, I'm asking, what exactly is your end game?

  • This new order is a shambles, I'm finding it hard to keep track of activities. Give us the option of having chronological order. If this becomes permanent I'm sure a lot of people will find some other app to track their activity

  • Chronological order please, even if if it's just a selectable option

  • I have benefitted from both chronological and algorithmic sorting in how I use the activity feed. My vote is for the option to choose.

  • Please allow me to see my dashboard activity feed from most recent to oldest.

Current seemingly random order displeases me.

    Please and thanks.

  • This sucks, I don;t want it , I don't need it.  I'm surprised you are wasting development resources on it.

How do I turn it off, and get back to time-ordered display?

  • So, in stead of answering my question, support asked me to post here...
So PLEASE for the love of God, bring back the chronological feed!
It pissed me off to no end when Facebook implemented it, and still does.
If this isn't reversed, I'm gone...

  • I've just been flicking through the 383 mostly negative comments regarding the new Strava feed and noticed something very unusual. They are all in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER! Maybe Strava could spend a year developing an algorithm to make a complete mess of this as well?

  • I'm not a fan of the new arrangement of the activity feed. If you make this permanent PLEASE give us the option to see activity feed in time/chrono order "old way". Thank you

  • Dislike the new format.  This makes me want to look at the feed of my friends even less.  Give me an option to turn it off or I won't even bother looking anymore.  I often times like to look at stuff for the day and then I see stuff from a day or two ago at the top and then see stuff from 15 mins ago.  I instantly leave the feed.  Based on the remarks here, people don't like it.  Please do yourselves a favor and listen to your customer base on this one.

  • Add yet another user to the list that is frustrated with the new sort algorithm. Makes the dashboard completely unusable.  Providing an option for how to sort would be best.

  • Come on Strava!  Are you listening to this?  Your users are now irritated by this once faultless app.  Admit defeat and change back to chronological asap!  We've really had enough of it.

  • I'm sorry but this just doesn't work. My wife walks through the door having been out on a ride. I check Strava to give kudos or comment and I have to scroll through umpteen entries to find it. I look at her rides and give kudos as much as anyone else I follow, why is it relegated?

Strava says "We want your experience on Strava to be awesome, whether you check your feed every hour or once a week. So we've made a few changes to the Strava feed to be sure you don't miss your friends' best activities and photos, and that your biggest achievements get their attention, too. It's that simple"

Basically I don't want you to decide what I want to see I want to make my own mind up.

  • Please, give ME the option to set up my Activity Feed how I want it to come up when I go to the website. I want to see it in chronological order every time.

this should be a "no brainer" option for all user.

This is why this will NEVER work. If your spouse /just/ finished they're activity, you shouldn't have to hunt and hunt and hunt to find your spouse's activity for a Kudos.
