Duplicate Cycling Segments for Ebike Segments

Hi,

a lot of people with ebike are still registering their activities as nomral bike because no segments exists in the ebike section.

Most of them do that because they don't know (or they don't want to spend the time) to create new segment in Ebike categorie.

I think it will be awesome if all the bikes segments could be duplicate in eBikes categories.

This way, the ebikes owner are gona record their activities in the ebike section because they will be able to see the existing segments.

Of course, keep the leaderboard seperate, just duplicate the segments.

Thanks.

  • Just realised that eBike rides are not included in the heatmap (another eBike just useless premium feature)

  • Hey Nick - I like where you're going with this, but it didn't work for me. Crashed with an invalid reference of some kind.  I'm on Chrome 76.  Any thoughts?

  • Thanks for picking up on that bug Rick! I've implemented your fix, hopefully that will be fine now. Let me know if you have any further issues.

Also I'm not 100% sure but it looks like any segments that the script fails to create due to the 10-per-day limit are put in a queue by Strava and automatically created the next day... if anyone else can confirm that, I'll remove the bit in the code that stops the script when it detects the "You have created too many segments" alert.

  • Rick, this is great, I´m testing it with my rides on my 2 mountain bike parks here in Costa Rica, seems it´s working perfectly fine, will let you know if it is not.

    Thanks a lot

  • and on Nic Beeton´s comment, I also got he "You have created too many segments" alert, we´ll see if they are really in queue.

  • Nick did the hard work!  I just helped debug it.

  • For what I see, seems there is no such thing as "segments in queue" after the limit has been reached, it just stops accepting them.

  • Got it, thanks to Nick!!

  • You're welcome, I'm just glad people are using it! And thanks for checking the segments in queue thing, I must have forgotten about some I'd made earlier, it's been a busy couple of weeks!

  • I’ve been manually creating ebike segments as I ride, but it a hassle and lots of existing segments do not match the current criteria for minimum length.

  • I´m using Nick´s fix with good success, the only thing is that I have about 100 segments between my 2 MTB parks, so it´s going to take a while to upload all the segments due to the Strava limitation of how many segments you can create

  • Paul, how about just making your own e-bike segments rather than causing problems for the rest of us? Your issue is with Strava, don't punish the rest of us.

  • Hey Nick, the buttons disapeared for me, I've reinstalled the Tampermonkey and the script and still they are not there, any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot for this!

  • Hi Roberto, hmm the script still seems to be working for me - can you open the browser console (it's Ctrl-Shift-I on Chrome) and see if there are any error messages associated with userscript.html?

  • Fritz - Actually, no, running and biking is just like biking and e-biking.  Running and biking are not using the same segments.  It is probably just that people have created running segments that mirror the biking ones, just like people can create e-bike segments that mirror biking ones if they want.  Personally, I would love to be an e-biker and be able to just about start from scratch in making my segments.  There are far too many people who have screwed up the regular bike segments by either creating multiple duplicates or using bad start/stop locations so it doesn't record accurately.  If you just duplicated the existing regular bike segments to e-bike, then the e-bikers would have to deal with all of the screwed up segments as well.

  • I opened the browser console and I couldn't see anything... It's something with this computer, it runs well on another one.

    Thanks

  • For anyone who's been using my script, it unfortunately stopped working about a month ago once Strava updated their webpage. I think/hope I've fixed it now - if you go to Tampermonkey and click on "Check for userscript updates" it should update it automatically. To make sure, go to installed userscripts and make sure it's at least version 0.5.2. Let me know how it goes - I'm not actually much of a javascript programmer so I'm sure there are still bugs!

Oh and Mark sorry I missed your message - it'll copy ANY regular bike segments that have been made along the ride that you've done, and make them into ebike segments using your Strava account. I'm regretting making this script now, someone with a souped up illegal (in Aus) ebike has been taking all the segments I've created lol :P

  • tried Nick's script for the first time today - installed Tampermonkey, got the buttons when looking at my e-bike rides. However, when I click a button, the ride changes from e-bike to normal ride, and then the process seems to stop, with Strava saying underneath the map "No Segments On This Activity". If I then refresh the browser, lots of segments appear (and the activity type is still 'normal' ride). Am I missing something, or is the process supposed to work from start to finish automatically (including setting the activity type back to e-bike) without user intervention?

    thanks

  • Hi Nick. Thanks for creating that script - it has proved really useful to help me duplicate (and curate) a bunch of segments in my local MTB area. However, I've been having a little difficulty of late. It says that I have updated in Tampermonkey, but the version is showing as 0.5.1. Also in the script listed as 0.5.2 on Github, it is still showing version 0.5.1 at line 4.

Anyway, one of the problems I've encountered is similar to Graham above, when it changes to "Ride", the browser initially comes up with no segments, but if I manually refresh the "Ride" page, all the ride segments appear. It would be great if the script could include an extra refresh in here to help pick up the full list of "Ride" segments before changing back to "E-bike Ride".

  • Please copy bike segments to ebike activity..... or we are going to have to create our own segments (that will probably be different)

  • Robert

I contacted strava again, after they announced all these new changes and how they will prioritise paying customers with regards to e bikes. Well surprise surprise I got the stock reply basically saying, we aren't interested in e-bikes so you wont be getting anything in the way of upgrades. All they want is our money.

  • Surely as the last comment I seen from Strava was 3 years ago and a lot has moved on this should be reconsidered or even in the pipeline

  • Very odd that Strava can not do something about this.

No way i wil pay for Strava again if this is not adressed. This is even more important then my request for a Snow kiteing specific setting. The only setting that match and displays data interesting for Snowkiters today is "Ride" wich it kind of is, just not on a bike. Kitesurfing uses nautical terms (speed and distance) wich makes no sense on land.

Strava please understand that you need to adapt and evolve to get customers to pay and stay... Not worth a subscription for me so far..

  • Surely this is a no-brainer to do - for Strava not to do this is unbelievable.

  • I'm sick of discussing it now. Strava have effectively said "e-bikes, p**s off, we're not bothered".

It's pretty simple (or so you'd think!!!), copy the segments from "ride" to "ebike".

They cant understand how the 2 things are the same people riding the same trails and wanting to continue riding the segments they've ridden for years. Its pissing off ebike riders, its pissing off non ebike riders.

I've argued via email with them and now given up..... NY solution is this.... I now record every ride as a "ride"... if someone flags it they flag it. I've lost faith completely and strava's inflexibility is churlish. I'm a paying customer, but that's stopping tomorrow..

  • So agree with you Paul. Many of my ebike rides I now just record as normal rides. I want to see and record the same segments i’ve ridden for years now.

  • I'm considering to just select "ride" instead of E-bike and DON'T hide from leaderboards... It will mess UP ny own pr and or er leaderboards. Will create unhappy riders and s lot of "flag ride". Maybe that will make Strava react....😳
    Dissapointed.

  • Tired of eRides issues, I converted all my eActivities to standard rides. As a consequence, I am now the KOM in some in heavy ramps, apologies to the rightful owners... I will change those rides to not visible, I do not want to cheat on KOMs

  • Hi Folks,

Thanks for taking the time to leave comments and upvotes. Due to the overwhelming number of potential projects on our roadmap, we haven't had the chance to consider this yet.
