Remove "Suggested Follows" from the feed

Please take "Suggested Athletes" out of the Activity Feed.

This was irritating even when it lived on the right hand side of the screen.  Suggesting local 'pros' who I've never heard of before.  Now suggesting people like my old fraternity brother's daughter and others that I'd never want to connect with, etc. but taking up valuable space in the Activity feed every time I visit the page.

Please please please remove.  It's like an advertisement that has nothing to do with my workouts or those of my community.

Or at least remove for premium users.

Thanks

Mike

  • I will definitely not be renewing my Summit subscription as I use other (better) services for ride/workout analysis now.
Unfortunately Strava ignores paying customers and persists on pushing “features” that nobody wants, but the good news is other services are starting to creep onto Stravas patch so we’ll have options soon enough.

  • Dears, this feature is completely AWFUL. I would not be willing to pay any subscription if I see this garbage in there. Please remove it at least for paying customers and I will join, otherwise it does not make any sense to me to pay for such a service.

  • Hello, please reconsider disabling this as an option. You're providing some good features recently and I'm a happy premium customer but this is taking a lot of space and I'm not interacting with it. Give us the option to disable it, don't show it every time... I don't know, they are options.

  • Please remove the suggested followers. Im not a competitive person & I'm not interested in other people finding me whether through people i know or someone some they know. Id feel much safer knowing im the only one marketing myself, not Strava too. Privacy is a really nice thing to respect, maybe once there are a few more years of concerns raised on this thread, or a competitor site starts providing that, we might see a change. Please put Strava at the front of the pack, be a leader & make the change, provide the option & Strava just might be a winner (the impression your own marketing gives)

  • Come on, just remove the Suggested Followers.

Strava has been doing some serious back pedalling lately trying to gain some trust and maybe make a profit for once.
The ship is still sinking and it’s because they still refuse to listen to paying customers which leads to people cancelling their subs.

Strava, if you read all these comments you really need to start listening to your customers.

  • Now that Mark Gainey and Michael Horvath have "re-discovered" the purpose of Strava:  "Our answers to those questions have only gotten clearer in the past few months, and we’re now leading the company with a single purpose: rededicating Strava to our community."

Instead of bragging endlessly about reinstating the chronological timeline, how about removing this Suggested Athletes, Suggested Follow feature or at least make it optional for subscribing members!

There are hundreds of members that want this turned off for 3 years now,  Do the right thing!

  • Yeah, time has come. You've made a clear distinction between free and premium subscribers. Work the free users to make them grow their network, but please allow your paying subscribers to have full control of the feed. I unfollowed a couple of people recently and they were recommended to me the next day. Allow me to opt out of that please.

  • Like all the other commenters I hate this "feature".  Now that Strava has officially conceded the attempt to become another Facebook has failed, perhaps its a good time to listen to your customers, put in features that people actually want and stop putting commercial interests ahead of usability.  Strava is at a crossroads, I will continue to support it with a paid subscription, but the time has well and truly come to allow users to opt out of invasive "features" like this.  The fact your algorithm sucks hasn't helped.  I delete a swag of suggestions one day and a few days later exactly the same people are being suggested again, half of them on the other side of the world.  I have enough kudos chasers asking to follow me without Strava prompting me to follow people I've never heard of.

  • Strava. Wake up and listen... this thread has been going on for 3 years. Seems to me you have a bunch of paying members who have asked for the ability to switch this annoying feature off.

Strava: demonstrate you are listening and please share your position?

  • All in all some nice updates in the past months, but still subscription cancelled unfortunately, "features" like the same suggested athletes that keep showing again and again in the feed (even worse is the thought that my profile pops-up cyclically to some other random feeds), or not having the option to hide from feed specific activities - e.g. commutes, virtual rides - which is also something people have been requesting for several years already, force one to completely ignore the feed and set everything on private. But then why not just use something like Garmin Connect?!

  • I really don't understand why one of benefits of their subscription is "Premium support". I have never ever they used this or their support channel for further development. If they now have financial problems it is just for their ignorance.

So I am asking, after 3 years, again - make this annoying feature optional and make a list of planed features with a time plan, then I will support you again. I don't need any of your premium features, just want to support a company that cares about their community.

  • The official response is still;

Removing Suggested Follows from the feed is not an option at this time.

We will continue to monitor feedback and to make improvements to this feature."

Now that the purpose of Strava has been "re-discovered", it would be quite nice if that could be updated.

Even if it is along the lines of, "We are not going to consider even an on/off switch for this feature and hope that those who want it, will stop moaning and just go away". At least we would know.
