Strava not recording distance accurately

I run using strava on an android phone. I ran 7 miles yesterday and thought I'd smashed my pace goal but on closer inspection, the app has logged my run as 10.5 miles and one stretch of the recorded route is all over the place. The stretch of road where things have gone wrong is straight but the recorded route I took looks like I've crossed the road and gone round in circles a few times, meaning that the distance traveled has been greatly increased.

This is the second time I've had this problem and much as I enjoy the false sense of achievement, its not very useful for my training.

  • Happened to me today too (after months of really clean and precise traces on a Nexus 5).

I remember there was on update a few days ago - wonder if they screwed up something in the latest version...?

  • Same for me. Strava on Android is not recording the right distances. Looking at the map of my run, the route is very jagged, as if the GPS is not picking up my locations properly.

  • Mine has done similar on android. I did a 5 mile run today and the app says i did 2.2 mile run, and apparently i only run in straight lines everywhere. Average pace well out also. No miles update during the run. 2nd time of this has happened recently. Throws your training times out the window

  • I've experienced a number of similar issues. 3 or 4 runs have had my pace spiking and throwing off the whole run. Today, I ended the run, hit finish, added a photo, hit save, and the saved run showed the finish half way thru the run!

It has been worse since the UI upgrade.

Strava, if you are interested, I can provide links to the screwed up runs.

  • Went for a ride; rode 23 miles and looked, and it was still at 0. GPS was working for google maps, so that wasn't it. It was not saying waiting for GPS either. Tried restarting the App. Did not help. Did this multiple times.

Strava, there's definitely something up with this recent App.

  • I too have experienced inaccuracies with Strava as of late. I used an Alcatel one touch and it recorded my 6 kilometer run accurately. Now I have a Samsung galaxy a5 and I'm experiencing discrepancies all the time. To test that it wasn't clouds, rain or wind effecting the outcome, I have been taking both phones to test. Again, different readings. Could it be the phone?

  • https://imgur.com/QeweBoH here's an example from my run today. Because my run is recording like this, it looks like I'm running Olympic level times
