Tag (@Mention) People in Posts and Activities

Self explanatory....be able to tag people in posts and activities.  Weird that you can only tag people in comments.

    Thanks Jayanth,

I'm sure we will consider expanding @mentions in the future. Correct, you can currently tag (@mention) other users in activity comments on our mobile app. After we bring @mentions to the Strava website, we can take a look at adding this functionality to posts and activity titles. Appreciate the feedback.

  • Is this for people that did the activity with you, or just to tag someone that might be of interest in the activity?

I saw a new(er) feature appear this winter, where you can "Add Others" to group activity or "Add friend" for an activity. I haven't tested it out yet, but check out the Strava write up on tagging: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001631264

  • Suggestion isn't to tag in an activity but tag in posts.  My friends and I are posting our 2018 health/fitness goals to keep ourselves and each other accountable (and also to motivate one another).  So it would be great to post the goal, then tag the people as well so they see the update.  Similarly, when we post an update we can tag them in the post itself as well.

The feature you pointed to lets you add them to an activity but nothing about posts.

  • It's already like that considering you can tag people in comments anyway.  May as well tag people in posts too.  I'm not a fan of posts either but may as well include the tagging feature once they flipped that switch.

  • Any update on this @Strava? I agree with the comments. Totally crazy that this is only on mobile UI/UX, especially with such a simple fix using Javascript for web. This is a great feature but useless to tons of your users who use web to use and engage with the Strava platform.

  • Bump!  Mobile mention feature was implemented in 2016 Strava: there is NO reason the browser interface should be in any way less functional than your dumbed-down app!  I'm a paying, premium member, and am very seriously not amused w/ you A) forcing me to use the web to get features that *I actually deem worth paying for* like fitness & freshness, and then B) force me to use the phone app to interact w/ other riders using mentions.  Why on earth should I have to jump back & forth between two devices just to complete what should be a simple 5-minute session? You are mismanaging the implementation of browser-based mentions the same way you did with web management of photos.  If you want to streamline/lobotomize the phone app, fine, but your web interface needs to be the 100%, full-featured version of your platform for those *paying a premium for full service*!

  • Web based @mentions went live just recently. Hopefully we can see this incorporated in posts and activities soon. But I wouldn't hold my breath. It took over 3 years to bring @mention parity between mobile and the web versions. Maybe they can stop dumping adverts on paid users while they're at it (for their Summit features & for disabling device branding on activities).
