Support Tandem Cycling on Strava

This could include support for Tandem cycling, with ways to account for two people riding a tandem on Strava, with unique features to support this and a designated Tandem leaderboard for segments.

  • I agree and have asked strava to support tandem riders, also its rubbish for solo riders when tandems take QOM`s and KOM`s

  • Why not tag certain bikes as "ineligible for KOMs" and build a separate table out of these rides.

Could cover tandems, recumbents, ebikes, streamlined bikes, etc.

  • Yes, we would appreciate tandem support very much too, thank you.

  • I would really like to see this as well. Seems like if they can make an "E-Bike" category, they should be able to make a Tandem category!

  • There should to be a tandem classification/flag of some sort but around here, strong pace lines take most of the KOM's and there are woman mixed in who easily take the QOM's due to the assist. Nobody should really care about someone else's time, just on improving their own but whatever motivates you. I guess it's human nature to compare yourself to others. The problem with Strava segments are all the variables yet they want to just lump them under Male/Female with age and weight  subsets when it should be solo, pace line, race, fun ride, wind assist, tandem, bent, beach cruiser, etc...

  • Common Strava! Lots of useful suggestions here and its unbelievable that this hasn't been done sooner... worse still that Elle can come along and say it being worked on, and then not do anything really about it.

At least put the category in the mean-time (better than nothing) so that they can be filtered later on if needs be when the other back end stuff like leader boards and linking to other users needs to be worked out.

I don't ride a tandem myself, but I don't like the idea that they can have some serious unfair advantages (similar to e-bike).

OK we cant be sure that even with this that somebody will bother to tag their ride correctly, but its a start.

  • If both riders record to Strava there is the potential to detect tandems.

A small market and a great solution doesn't seem obvious.  You don't want to sever the relationship to other types of cycling, but men/woman/tandem/overall adds clutter that most riders care nothing about and it ignores male teams, female teams and co-ed teams.

I'd be happy with anything, but I'd like it if bike weight could be increased and there was some way to recognize that it was a tandem.

  • Strava, we realy, love to have a way to submit my tandemrides! Same as the possibilty for an e-biker and handbiker.

I ride as an female with a motor in front of my bike...... there are also tandems on the road or you can find them in the woods..... please give us more pleasure on our tandem.....

  • I’m a.m. new to tandem riding but since I started logging rides on Strava I’ve been titling them as solo or tandem. I would love to see a simple button in the app to select your category and I hope Strava comes up with a fair solution.

  • I tag as #2up as my personal way of identifying tandem rides.

  • Come on Strava. You added an e-bike category so why can't you just add tandem category too. My wife has just decided to unprivate all her tandem rides with me to wreck the QOM ambitions of local ladies to cause complaints to you about gettting a tandem category in place. We've campaigned nicely for a tandem category forever with no success. It's time to get nasty. Please, ladies, if you lose your QoM to a tandem please complain like mad to Strava. We don't want to take this approach but we don't see an alternative to get through to the Strava folk. Other tandem ladies, I appeal to you to take as many QoMs with your tandem partners as possible and leave them public. If you have any historical privated tandem rides please un-private them and stick a few words in your ride description about why you've made them public and what other solo ladies should do. COMPLAIN TO STRAVA !!!!!!

  • LOL...it's been over 8 years since this was first requested.  Nice job listening to your users, Strava.

  • Not sure why they won't  do it. Lost a few QOM's to male/female tandem team.
