Create Group or Club Challenges

I would love to be able to set up challenges within groups for the folks that I ride with. Complete with the features that are on the normal Strava challenges such as leaderboards, ranking.

Ability to set up the challenge measurement such as mileage, time, suffer score etc.

I feel like this would really help drive people to ride even harder, especially those that might feel a little overwhelmed by some of the site wide challenges.

This is on our roadmap. First up is an integration of our current Challenge Leaderboards into Clubs, so that you can easily access the Challenge ranking within your Club. Next, we plan to work on a feature for Club Admins to set the parameters for their own Club Challenges.

Thanks for all your feedback this far.

  • Yes. Would be nice to be able to set up your own club challenges

  • I support this idea and would love to see it included in the Premium membership benefits.

  • Yes, we have some challenges at work.  We all use Strava, and it would be great to have this feature!!!

  • I am interested in creating a challenge.  It could be for my local riding club or national/global.  Either way is fine.  Can I do that?  Judging by the comments here, I guess not.  Seems like a great extension.

  • We love this idea too - I'm moving this thread to the Feature Requests section of our site. Please vote to move it up the list!

  • I just went premium on Strava, and was expecting to create my own Challenges, with my running and riding friends. Alas!! I could not.....

Please get this out soon !!

  • This is a great idea. I am hoping to implement a "Club Championship" style competition for the season on Strava. I'd like to

    • Identify scored segments for the club. At the end of the season, the top 10 riders on these identified segments will get points towards the club championship. Could be a hill, could be a flat time trial.
    • Total mileage for the club for the season. From "X" date to "Y" date, track miles ridden for club riders in club "Z".
I would love to have this functionality established in the Clubs section.
Thanks so much for this awesome app!

  • Agree - would be great for club challenges - e.g. Feb Base Miles, March Climbing Challenge, etc.

  • I hung on to Endomondo way too long for the custom challenges alone. It's a killer feature and I would love to see it implemented, but I think it would be a mistake to require premium membership to access it. I is a typical feature that will draw new people in to Strava where they later upgrade to premium to be able to see all stats for the challenges they take part in. Segments work exactly the same way.

  • How is this not yet a feature?

  • That would be a greate feature!!

  • Another thought is that our group is age 50+ years old, It would be nice to see how our age bracket compares to other groups of the same age.

And on a the same type of request our group seems to lose riders because our average speed is too slow or too fast for new riders  and so we tend to lose riders from our group. We are always trying to add riders to our group (the more the merrier) so a solo rider will be able to get a suggestion from strava to join a group of similar ascending/descending times.

  • Yes Please - would love to be able to create a custom challenge that riders could opt in on.

  • It would make a lot more sense if this was possible using standard Strava functionality, instead of having to knit it together on external sites using the APIs. If I remember correctly, Strava has previously said that users should be able to create their own challenges. Has this changed?
  • Elle, you mentioned posting this up on the Feature Requests Section of Strava but can;t see it there? Looks like there's a real desire for this to be part of Strava either as a standard or premium service. Can you add to FRs so we cna vote on it pls?

  • Brazilian Riders waiting for this upgrade too!!

  • Love this idea!

  • Good Chris, we are really looking forward to detonate each other as only the KOM fight is not enough for our competitive soul! :)

  • Was just looking to set this up today and was bummed that the functionality wasn't already there. Would love to see this.

  • Would love to see this feature soon! Thanks Strava!

  • Yes! i'd love to be able to create club challenges on strava...

  • This would be great since you've killed the API which allowed many people to create challenges with Strava data.  It would be a killer feature to keep people from migrating to Garmin Connect or Runkeeper for their open APIs

  • This is a most obvious feature to include.
  • Agree, our club does a "volume challenge" in the winter on spreadsheets.  I am sure other clubs do the same.  Great way to get more Strava users by allowing them to leverage your tools to do this type of stuff.

I'd also suggest allowing users to create "badges" and other incentive tokens for milestones during the challenges.

  • Clubwide adoption rates of Strava should go up significantly with this.

  • I want to set up a commuter challenge in my local area for a sustainability group. How far can you ride in one week :) Strava I wish for this feature

  • I would also like this feature, at least as a Premium user. I was thinking of creating a "GC Race" Challenge. Basically, by creating a Challenge, I could group a bunch of KOM's around town into a competition. Ex: the challenge is to do climb A, climb B, climb C, etc, over the course of X number of days, the lowest overall time wins.

  • +1 for this feature! It would be a GREAT way to incentivize participation in Strava Clubs (for those who use strava, but don't participate in a particular club).

This would also (IMO) be a huge draw for new Strava users as cycling club members (not using Strava) will join just so they can participate in their club's strava contest.

Win Win for everyone I think.

  • This would be great, allow monthly club mileage competition, teams could be top ten mileage people from a club, so clubs with 50, your team is participating, but it is still 10 v. 10  etc...
