Manually add Training Load to activities for Fitness & Freshness graph

It would be very helpful to be able to add manual TSS estimates to rides. I live in a pretty brutal winter climate and don't risk bringing my crank-mounted power meter on some of the more snow-ridden, submerged, occasionally airborne training rides I do in the winter, so when I return from a 5 hour frostbitten epic I don't really have a good assessment of what the effect on my fatigue/fitness would be. It'd be handy to be able to punch in some kind of guess so I can better keep track of my fitness curves. Just a thought.

Thanks!

  • +1. Phone wouldn't connect to my sensors for today's race (and I'm sure it will happen again!), but I would still like to log the ride in the fitness/freshness chart. I regretting the premium purchase when I could have gotten the feature from TrainingPeaks!

  • I see that there are a number of threads of a similar theme that have been open for a while, as well as Strava themselves stating on the info section of the F&F graph that "in the future we hope to incorporate heart rate and other metrics to create a better picture of your fitness".

Others have summarised why it is this would be a useful, nay essential, feature to make this useful, but the only back brief I can see from Strava is the comment above that "hopefully this will be picked up for development soon".

How soon is 'soon'? It seems like a pretty simple fix and as many of us are paying for premium membership it would be nice at the very least to have some feedback of substance, either in the form of it actually being implemented (some hope) or at the very least a reasoned response as to WHY this is taking so long.

  • I agree fully, without the ability to add manual TSS estimates for non-power rides, the fitness/freshenss it totally useless for me.  I'm now going back to spending more time with Golden Cheetah for the serious metrics and analysis, while strava is becoming just a social tool - which I can do without the premium account.

On the same note, if anyone is product development is watching - please don't implement a hardcoded TSS estimate taken from heart-rate only, or power estimates.  That would also me useless to me (and others, I suspect).  It is important that we're able to manually enter (or override) a TSS.

  • This needs to be added or I'll need to cancel my premium. I have four bikes (tandem, mtb, cx, road) and only the road has a power meter. ???????

  • Hey Strava. It's the springtime and summer is upon us. The majority of your paid subscribers are ramping up their training. Training load is a feature to help sharpen the sword and make us all stronger, faster, and healthier. Now you, Strava, are always encouraging us paid subscribers to gun for those KOMs or sign-up for one of your challenges. It's time to change the tide for a minute. Speaking on behalf of all the paid members who have taken their time to post here, and for those who are struggling without manual loading abilities, we are issuing a challenge directly to you. Or maybe we will call it the "Manual Training Load KOM". We are staring right at you Strava and waiting to see what you got. Can you take the KOM on this challenge or are you going to wait for the summer to slide by. I hope not, because the surest way for all of us to put a sharp edge on our knives and go for those KOMs is to manually add our estimated training load numbers when needed. We need you to come through on this KOM. Go get 'em!

  • +1 ride road (with powertap), plus a couple MTBs (no power).   would be great to add manual training load for rides without power meter (and for rides where garmin decided to "forget" my data.

I made a very similar request, see https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/25549064

I can't believe we are still waiting for the Strava team to fix this flaw that renders a key feature unusable. This is easy guys, PLEASE fix this bug ASAP.

  • Hi Elle, any update on this for us?

    Thanks!

  • Trainingpeaks manages as good hrTSS figure (similar to Sufferscore I guess).

As a premium user I'd really like to have a guide of TSS/hrTSS for rides and weeks (displayed in the Training area of Strava).

Thanks for all your good work.

  • @Gary - nothing new to report, though I'm pushing this request from my end internally! Be sure to share this with your friends and get them to vote.

  • Another Vote for manually adding TSS. My powertap is part of a training wheel set up and don't use it for racing all the time so this data is not placed into the fittness/form manager. Make it a priority please!

  • One more vote.  Actually, feel free to log my vote as a complaint.  As in it's absurd that I can't do this.

I mean, really, we're probably talking like just a handful of lines of code.  It'd take one of your dudes (I'm using the term as a gender-neutral) like half a day.  If that.

The thing that Strava gets right (the really lovely thing about Strava) is that it's pretty.  User friendly.  I actually _like_ being on this website.  It pleases my aesthetic sensibilities.  It just _feels_ good.  But the thing that Strava really gets wrong is that it sacrifices functionality for form.  Some people want that functionality.  And as Strava tries to become more and more my one-stop training companion, its gotta fix that functionality part.  Really.

  • Yet another vote. This is a much needed addition.

  • We NEEEED this!  Fitness/Freshness is worthless without this feature.  I don't run a power meter on every bike, and the missing data makes the graphs have no value.

  • Crazy this hasn't been done yet, surely quite a simple chance that is available on GC/Training Peaks etc

  • Today the battery of my power meter went down in the middle of the ride. It'd be great to be able to manually edit the Training load.

  • Training Stress Score is a registered trademark of Peaksware, LCC. I assume there is some legal wrangling to sort out? I hope Strava can find a way.

  • Yes!  I recently had an issue with my powertap that cost me 3 weeks of power data.  Now the F&F graph will be way off for weeks to come.  I fI could have manually entered an estimated training load for each non-powertap workout the problem would have been solved.

I let my Premium subscription expire almost solely because of this missing feature (I train on my mtb and road bike).  The F&F graph becomes a toy without HR data...

  • Please add my vote too.

This is something TP has and that is really useful when you ride w/o power.

  • Hey Elle.

Any sign of an update on this please? Winter is coming (Game of Thrones quote) and the winter bikes (minus power meters) will be making an appearance.

Seems like a pointless tool if i can only log my performance for half of the year.

  • Add it please!  I workout at lunch often and no power meter at gym but wattage measure on expresso bike.

  • I would also like to see this feature implemented soon! Any news on when it might be done? My power meter have been broken for a week and it totally messes up my fitness and freshness graph!

  • Premium subscription cancelled on the basis that it's pointless without this feature. Pull your fingers out Strava, I'll re-subscribe when this is fixed.

  • Does Strava actually monitor these requests?  Nothing has happened and no feedback on what should be a relatively simple change.  Maybe cancelling Premium subscription is the only way to get action.

  • I would have to agree with all of you.  If Strava does not add this feature before my Premium subscription ends in a few months, I will NOT be renewing!  I hope someone at Strava is listening!

  • I suppose the times where Strava was committed to be a training tool for cyclists with competitive aspirations is a thing of the past. I'd really like to hear what their big goals are and what clientele they want to cater to going forward. From my perspective Strava no longer spends time on long overdue enhancements of some key features that never got past the bare bones implementation, while at the same time they commit resources to data mining projects like heat maps that have very little direct value for the individual cyclist, but may well be a great source for additional revenue. Revenue is important and it's great that Strava finds ways to benefit from their vast body of ride data. But I'm missing the clear sense of direction and mission. If small improvements or bug fixes take a year or longer to get implemented, or don't ever see the light of day, it looks to me the time for Stroogle, Cyycle, or whatever it's name will be has come.
